I was going to ask if that was a Tweedy (which I’m sure I’ve asked before). Love that guitar.

I’ve decided that I like monel strings on my dreads. Specifically, I bought a set of Martin Tony Rice retro acoustic strings and then realized they were still on my hd28 and feeling fresh and sounding nice a year later despite heavy play. I feel like every time I pull my j45 out, whatever phosphor bronze strings have gone dead, so i put a set of those Tony Rice strings on it and it has been sitting out getting all the love for a month.

Curious if anyone else has the same growing string drawer problem that I have.

It’s a Tweedy and I love it, as does Chad Jr who of his own accord just learned his first two chords. He has a serious CCR addiction at the moment so that’s an easy place to start. He also lusts after the SG and I’ve advised this one can only be used under adult supervision as it’s pristine. He’s already looking for a players SG.

It has the wider neck that was widely derided in the 2015 era. I’ve come to appreciate it. What I absolutely hate is the vibrato. The G string is always going out of tune. I’ve gotta find a fix for that. Also like other SGs it has a tendency to neck dive. I know I need to add a bag of shot to the electronics cavity, I just haven’t gotten around to it as I don’t play this one out and usually just rest it on my leg sitting down.

Every time Musicians Friend does a stupid deal of the day on D’Addario XL electric 10’s, I buy a box.

I load up all the D’Addario Players Circle reward points into my profile and later buy something off their site using points. But the real plan is to have enough strings stocked up that in retirement I never have to buy strings again. )

I also bought a box of GHS Boomers, which are the stupid deal of the day today, coincidentally.

All of my strings and some other guitar stuff is in a Gregory Alpaca box under the bed in the guest room/turning to music room

I’m interested in those monel strings mentioned above. Think I’ll get some for my next acoustic string change.

I did drive down Monel Road in Dow Plant “A” in a former life. It makes you think.

I just buy the cheap daddarrio phosphor bronzes and change them often. But the do go dead pretty quick.

What’s the story with these strings you are talking about?

I’m not a metallurgist or anything, just figured I’d try out the bluegrass strings since I was on a bit of a cuttin grass kick, but they are monel, which is some kind of nickel alloy that is I guess fairly resistant to corrosion. I haven’t a/b’d them with a fresh set of phosphors but I’d say they are less bright sounding than that, but they have thus far not gotten that cruddy dead feeling or sound that you get from phosphor or 80/20 strings when they start to go dark.

Those sound great. Who's singing? Bass player?

Singer on the first one is the 2nd guitar player, stage right. Second one is the drummer. That is Ray Herndon in the hat. Herndon Brothers band. As good as they come.

I asked him after about that Waylon Tele, if it was the original or what. He said it was one 70 that the Fender custom shop copied from the two originals. Real saddle leather.

Those guys are as good of a bar band as I’ve ever heard. Ray Herndon used to be Lyle Lovett’s guitar player, has written songs for Kenny Chesney, was in a band called McBride and the Ride back in the day. He’s the real deal. His family, and now him, have owned that bar since the 60s. Willie, Waylon, Kris, Hank Jr, Vince Gill, Lyle Lovett, Toby Keith, Jessi Colter and others are all on the list of who’s played that stage. A list that now includes yours truly 😎

Still need to get the pickups in the Les Paul. Finally got all the parts together. This week.

In the meantime, I got this as a bit of a tribute to Chrissie Hynde.

So I was looking through some old photos for something, and stumbled upon this picture that shows the apparent concern I have for any damage every befalling my '76 LP. Seems I just had it leaning against my rack stuff in the middle of a gig lol.

I’ll take it at a discount after the inevitable headstock repair 😜

I'll give you a hammer and bet you 100 bucks you couldn't knock it off. It's 3 piece maple with a volute. I could use use it to demo sheetrock in my spare time.

Thanks.

Yeah, that combo is pretty sexy. Even sexier when I replace that pickguard with a 5-hole one. (and a new bridge with three compensated brass saddles.)

This is pretty wicked.

The surfy stuff they do with Marty Stuart and the Fabulous Superlatives is very tasty.

Norman’s has been acquired by Carter. No idea if they’re gonna keep the LA store or just move everything to Nashville.

Speaking of Veruca Salt, this live clip always kills me. Just a fantastic song by a fantastic band. Look at that crowd, holy crap!

I liked the Breeders too. Wrecking ball was pretty good.

Oh definitely, but she missed the top note on the intro the first two times. They've admitted it. It makes the song better in my mind.

Because it's human and we all relate to mistakes.
