I’d guess late 60’s by the tailpiece. That “Mudbucker” pickup is dirty and growling. Solid mahogany body. I had a long-scale walnut ‘72-‘73 in that same cherry finish back in the day that was given to me. It was stolen. I’d kill to still have it. Super cool old bass. thanks! you aint lying about that pickup! its large and in charge! also the neck cracked at some point cause there is glue on it where it meets the body

April 26, 20187 yr Yeah, Bogey, we needed the color on this page. A luthier worth his salt can easily reset the neck on that bass. Well worth it considering it’s sentimental value to you. I’d do it for sure.

April 26, 20187 yr On the subject of Gold Tops...I once envisioned snagging a PRS goldie coz it'd make me sound like David Grissom...then I woke up.

I think you should go on and get it. It's what you want to do. And you won't know about that sound until you have it at your house playing through your gear. If it weren't for signature gear, I don't know what I'd do. LPs, Tweedy SG, Steve Miller Martin, EC Champ.... One of these days I may sound a little like those guys.

April 26, 20187 yr You know, we've been going over the ground rules in various forums for years. By now people should know how this works. I know, I know. "Hey jj when are YOU gonna get a new guitar you free-loading front-running fake?" And I get it. But first I owe Uncle Sam $8,800 and apparently he doesn't care about guitars. So GIVE ME A BREAK, man. April 26, 20187 yr Anyone hang their guitar up as art? I want to hang them up next to the piano so we can have a music "nook". Wife aborted that idea before it came to term.

Wife aborted that idea before it came to term. Sure do. Have them hanging all around. They're just on hooks right now, but I'd like to eventually do something to accentuate them a bit. http://www.jelisdecor.com/g-frames-modern-rock-silver-guitar-or-bass-display-frame-or-case/

April 26, 20187 yr I don't know whats up with imgur, I'll blame Celery since hes the one that sent me that way 😊. I can't get the site to load on tapa anymore, or I'd load them that way. But trust me, what you are missing is super awesomel! 😀
April 26, 20187 yr As further proof of G&L being badasses and flexible, here's a build they did for a vendor with a couple "off the menu" features. Scroll down the comments. Oh, and the guy at G&L who does the Doheny is formerly out of the Fender Custom Shop where he oversaw and made Jazzmasters...
April 26, 20187 yr Gonna need those pics, bro. Broken links make angel Les Paul and angel Leo Fender cry.
April 26, 20187 yr Any simple ideas where I can move them? I used to use photobucket but they now charge to share. I've tried Imgur now and thats shit. Tapa is down.
April 26, 20187 yr I just changed the settings from Hidden to Public, let me know if they show up now.
April 26, 20187 yr I use DropBox for sharing pics, free account too. Create a shared link then edit the front of the link, replacing "www.dropbox.com" with "dl.dropboxusercontent.com" and that should allow hotlinking on this and other sites. Edited April 26, 20187 yr by BoomMF
April 26, 20187 yr Here's another try with imgbox The one nice thing about moving into my own place is get to arrange it however the fuck I want. Its a typical tiny San Francisco space and I feared I would only have room for a couple guitars and a small amp, but as I've been moving and arranging I've found I have more space than I realized. Thanks to this rack I forgot I had, I'll fit 3 electrics, a bass, and an acoustic in the "guitar nook" I'll also keep an acoustic on a stand in a different part of the room plus one in the bedroom. That's like 7 guitars without resorting to hanging them on the wall; the walls are being saved for.... Preview I have a lot of nice framed concert and other music related posters. The primary wall above the guitars will be full. Here's a sneak peak from the opposite wall. BTW, I painted this room this color without realizing how well the color works with this poster. The horseshoe was unbelievably there - I've been on this kinda interesting run of horseshoes that started in early December with a dude in a bar insisting I accept the $1,000, 150 year old Gold and Quartz Horseshoe pin simply because he was a dealer and was impressed with my cowboy had at a bar downtown. That horseshoe stays pined to the band of the hat cause I can use all the good luck I can get these days. It's a nice, 20X hat I'd had made just a few weeks before, it paid for itself within a week and I don't tell that story to strangers for fear of having my hat stolen. There have been a few other horseshoes along the way too, including one I found when I was clearing a bunch of my Dads shit out of the garage for my Mom. I hung that one over the door to his music room. Back to nooks, this is the record / album nook. Those boxes of records will be soon replaced with a proper record storage cabinet. Separately, just inside the bedroom door is some shelves that turned out to be the perfect nook for my 7" 45 collection. Each of those crates fit nicely into a little 22" roll aboard I have. If I'm DJing a country set, I just grab the crate full of country singles and go. I've got a Rock and Roll crate, a a Funk & Soul Crate, a Country Crate, an Oldies Crate, and a final crate with a mixed bag of all kinds of shit that's really my main crate. I guess that's a lot more than just guitar porn, but really this is the only thread Im really active in at the new site and I'm feeling chatty. Thanks for indulging me. I'll post a picture of the room once it's complete. Back to normally scheduled guitar porn.
April 26, 20187 yr Guitar Center is reportedly facing imminent bankruptcy. Hope we can get some good sales out of it.
April 26, 20187 yr Gibson is being sued for $50M, so if they weren't actually on the brink of bankruptcy, they are now.

Just like the IRS processing server crashing minutes after I submitted my e-file, they were sued almost to the minute I finally ordered a new SG. It can't all be coincidence.

April 26, 20187 yr And it was the dreaded auto-tuner company that is going to sue Gibson into non-existence, which seems somewhat fitting. What a horribad decision that whole thing was.
April 26, 20187 yr I’ve been waiting to stumble upon on open box or STOTD that I like before I pounce. Maybe this will accelerate the process! Since Doug’s pics aren’t showing up for me, here is an old SG Special I had. I owned it in high school and added the bucker covers. I might have posted pics in the old thread, but I can’t remember. Pics are from high school me, so they aren’t exactly special Not sure who who strung it here, hope that wasn’t me. Edited April 26, 20187 yr by Anton Chigurh
April 26, 20187 yr Author imgur stopped allowing hosting to surly in particular for whatever reason, and that was after I had mentioned them as an alternative. I've been using imgbb, which is pretty easy. The sideways guitar rack is really a must for a guitar area - way easier access to a larger number of guitars in a smaller space. I haven't hung up any guitars in my house, but I definitely have them about. That Les Paul is always out, because it is just about the prettiest guitar on the planet. Although just to see what she said, I pulled my blue McCarty off of the rack yesterday and asked the fiancee which one is prettier, and she said the PRS. So, careful. I need a horseshoe. Will be sad if GC bites the dust, but I really don't make excuses to go there ever since they hung all the nice acoustics up in the rafters. They need to have some sort of system where if you've bought a $1500 plus guitar there, you get access to a room, or maybe an app where you just shoot a picture of the guitar you want to play and someone comes and brings it down, or just SOMETHING where it is specifically encouraged for people who have the sickness to fiddle around with expensive guitars. I don't get the itch to buy the Gibson Hummingbird if I can't touch the Gibson Hummingbird. I would not own my OOO15M or my fancypants exotic mahogany J45 if the barrier had been finding the teenager to get the ladder.
April 27, 20187 yr Beautiful guitar, nice bag, even the box is a work of art. It needs some adjustment. Bridge is set up a bit high, and the frets need some smoothing out. But I am very pleased.
April 27, 20187 yr Good job, DougO. Damn, I want a new guitar, and I just bought one right as the old site was going down.

April 27, 20187 yr I was torn for a while about which color I liked best. Nearly bought the brown last time around. But I'm glad I waited. The cherry really pops.

April 27, 20187 yr Finally had a chance to play around a little with it after watching the draft. It sounds great, especially through the Bassbreaker. Really has that SG bark, but also some bass response, which is cool. Compared to my Epiphone SG-400, it actually has a slightly thinner body and is a bit lighter, which surprised me. But the nut width is considerably wider on the Gib, as well as the string width. That's great for my fat, clumbsy fingertips. The string width was just slightly wider on my PRS SE, and looked about the same as my Mexico Strat. It seems to stay in tune well through a lot of bending. I guess it's that self-lubricating nut thing. I was kind of expecting the body to show seams for three to five pieces of wood glued together. But without really super closely inspecting it certainly wasn't apparent. They do a great job making it look like a solid piece, however many it is. The finish is a little rough to the feel, but that's why it's cheap as dirt. The carving and contouring seems nice and sharp. The color is really nice. I really like the tuning keys, very silky smooth. They're about the nicest I've used on a guitar, but I really haven't picked up my other USA made guitars in a while. I'm gonna pull them out soon and document my 'Murrica grand slam four together, two Fenders and two Gibsons. If I had my druthers I would have the body a little bit thicker and heavier, and some fancier fretboard inlays, and something nice on the headstock the little crown thing or something. Other than that I can't find anything to complain about. Chrome covered pickups look a little cooler, but these bare ones are nice, too. Edited April 27, 20187 yr by DougO
April 27, 20187 yr Author When you say rough to the feel, so you mean you can feel the grain of the wood, or something else? I dig the kinda porous finish on an sg, especially in that color.
April 27, 20187 yr Congrats DougO! Beautiful guitar and pics. BTW, I'm all outta rep for you guys. Lots of cool stuff the last couple days.
