November 27, 20214 yr I don’t wish to reopen old wounds on this site regarding what constitutes making your guitar from scratch. But did this guy make his own guitar from scratch? The body anyway, from freaking salt spar.https://www.facebook.com/groups/172423852946356/permalink/1724747481047311/
November 28, 20214 yr Has anyone played a Les Paul Traditional Pro V? It's a Guitar Center exclusive. Really digging the plain top look, especially with a satin finish. https://www.guitarcenter.com/Gibson/Les-Paul-Traditional-Pro-V-Satin-Electric-Guitar-Satin-Iced-Tea-1500000302771.gc?rNtt=les paul satin&index=1 Hard to find a good comparison against a LP Classic. GC has it on sale now - $400 off regular $1999 price. It's still not cheap, but in this price range, I might consider it over a Tokai. Edited November 28, 20214 yr by Superhero

Bought it cheap locally, used every trick I know to get it to play half decent, and was happy to be rid of it when it sold on Reverb.Every LP Traditional I've played has been a pleasure, the Traditional Pro not so much.
November 29, 20214 yr Bought a used 1960's Les Paul Tribute honey burst thanks to the advice of this board a few years ago. Solid instrument. $700 used. You might look in that direction. I'm looking for a used Epiphone Riviera in burgundy for my husband. Christmas gift. He doesn't like new instruments, which would normally be a win for me. This is a tough one. I'm trying to keep it under $600. Any help is appreciated.

From what I’ve seen/heard the higher priced Epi’s seem to play and sound better than the lower priced Gibsons. Or at least good enough for my novice ass. also been checking on the PRS SE 245’s. I like those a lot too. don’t think I’ll even think about getting a Squier. Seems like Fender is my only option there. Heard the Fenders are a little “easier” to play compared to the Epi/Gibson. Any truth do that? Did you decide on or get the guitar you wanted? Pictures are mandatory.

November 30, 20214 yr Uh, somebody tell me about that Gretsch. Is is a piece of crap or is it a decent guitar? Because I can totally see myself playing that guitar.
November 30, 20214 yr I dont know much about the Chinese Gretsch's but my impression is that they are junk. A friend ordered a used one from a GC and it arrived with the center block loose and banging around inside. Otherwise i don't think I've ever touched one. The pro-series Greaches are well built in Japan and usually have a model number beginning with 6 (ie G6120).
December 1, 20214 yr Sorry didn’t mean to imply that. But that series is made in China. The best ones are made in Japan now as autf pointed out.

December 1, 20214 yr Gretch Streamliners are their least expensive import series (yes, China). But they get great reviews.
December 1, 20214 yr I bought my Electromatic a few years ago when they were made in Korea. Then I got ticked when the next time they went on sale they were cheaper, but it turns out they had started making them in China also.
December 1, 20214 yr I've played that Gretsch guitar MANY times and really wanted to buy it but when I picked up the ones that start with a 6 in the model number, the quality difference really stands out.
December 1, 20214 yr Did y’all just talk jimmyjazz out of buying a guitar? The fuck is going on here?

December 1, 20214 yr Guy near me wants $2000 for this Martin HD-28. I really like that model, but it's 30 years old and has some modifications. Is this a good deal? Should I pull the trigger? Notice the upper register frets he had removed. Thought that was weird. click for image Edited December 1, 20214 yr by Nole-4-Life
December 1, 20214 yr Those modifications would scare me away. Why would somebody do that to a beautiful Martin?

I will go and take a time out and think of what I've done and how I can be a better poster going forward. Seriously though, friends don't let friends buy shitty guitars
December 1, 20214 yr No one talked JJ out of a new guitar. We just talked him into a better made gretsch.

Thanks AUTF. I'm still looking for a LP type guitar. I've been on Reverb looking at used Classics and will take a gander at Traditional models. I've also been eyeing the Tokai LS129 with violin finish. http://www.tokai-guitars.nl/ls129-nitro-violin-finish.html Quote The Tokai LS129 is the classic Love Rock you know and love with a upgraded Nitro finish with a Canadian maple plain top. This new LS129 Nitro is the first new model in the USA Music series and only available through USA Music dealers. No detail is overlooked thanks to Tokai's legendary quality with vintage inspired features such as top hat bell knobs accompanied by pointers, maple cap, asymmetrical 60's style U shaped neck, brass saddle bridge and PAF-Vintage MK2 pickups. The LS129 Nitro is the result of over 40 years of refinement and a love of beautiful timbers. Funny they say available through USA Music Dealers because the only way to buy a new MIJ guitar is through eBay.

I had a Chinese Casino (Goldtop). It was as cool looking as can be, but it played like a strung up cigar box. Even after a setup, it wasn't easy to love. The P90s sounded great plugged straight in to a cranked tweed Bassman, but what doesn't? Otherwise, it just didn't do it for me. I finally sold it to Chicago Music Exchange, and I don't miss it one bit. I'm sure there are some great Casinos out there, but that's definitely a guitar I'd suggest trying before you buy.
December 2, 20214 yr Yeah. Only the higher end Casino's are worth a shit. No regrets selling mine. The Elitist models were really nice.
