January 28, 20223 yr I noticed that w the pickup @foggy notion . Looking at Reverb last night and I couldn't find one like it to figure out a value. Most have a floyd rose. The ones that didn't were listed for very little, but they all looked more stripped down than this one.

You’ll see both the Floyd Rose and the hardtail versions. Here’s a new one with the stock zebra pickups for $649: https://reverb.com/item/45426277-dean-ml-79-electric-guitar-in-trans-brazilia-ml79-new-flame-maple And here’s a used one with a Dimebucker in the bridge for $500: https://reverb.com/item/46627662-dean-ml-79-string-thru While I was digging around I did see another similar model called an MLX that is in the $300-400 range, but it has a bolt on neck.

So I was a little embarrassed when somebody pointed out that they are Canadian when I was DJing a "New Wave of British Heavy Metal" set and included one of their records. Don't feel embarrassed. If they put a picture of Queen Elizabeth II on their money, they're British.

Looks like the good Deans are their USA line in the $3k rangeThank you both for the research. That 2nd one Foggy linked looks just like this one, even the pickups, proving once again that he is the master finding used gear.I likely stop by and look today, but doubts on actually buying it. Ill get info / pics on that bass and the Charvel too.
January 29, 20223 yr Managed to leave without bringing anything home. The Dean is OK, but made in Korea. Im gonna pass.Good eye those who spotted that bass. It's "BassMods". Never had heard if them, but looking online they have quite a following. Neck was flat and wide as hell. Im happy w my PBass, but if anyone's Interested, ill be in Waco in March and Austin in Sept. They were asking $1,250 for this one. Guy said the owner would likely take $1,000 or $900 cash. The Charvel is tempting. Would have been more so if the thing was somewhere near in tune - im not putting the effort into tuning a Floyd Rose with out the allen keys in a pawn shop. EMGs in neck and bridge,, stock PUP in the middle. Tag said $800A few shots of the others inside. The Boss Chorus interested me.

January 29, 20223 yr Author On 1/26/2022 at 12:02 AM, Paul Wesley said: My go-to guitar. It had fret buzz on two strings (?A and D) up around 10-12th frets. It was otherwise very nicely set-up and stable. I took it to Danny Shoemaker at Straight Frets. He put it on his bench and we looked at it together for 10 or 15 minutes. He thought the neck had either twisted or swollen a little unevenly over time (I can't remember his exact theory). Long story short: I decided to just get it PLEK'd, and left it with him to PLEK and put on a new nut (the machine can also cut the nut with perfect precision as it levels the frets). Before I left it with him, he let me look at the machine and showed me how it works. Once you lock a guitar in place, the machine will measure out everything very precisely and print out an incredibly detailed before-and-after schematic of how "off" the frets are, how much metal is going to be shaved to get to the ideal configuration... like down to the tiniest amount of metal along every single fret. Then you can pull the guitar down and tweak the truss rod (and maybe also tweak the bridge). Then lock it back into the machine and let it measure everything again. I think the idea is to get it set up by hand as perfectly as possible so as to shave off the least amount of metal. I picked it up a week or so later, and he confessed that his theory for why I had a little buzz in one spot wasn't exactly correct. It made me respect him more that he would readily say that. I've got to say, if it was world's best luthier vs a really good luthier and a PLEK... I'd take the PLEK all day long. They're incredible machines. Y'all have seen it more than once on this thread... it's a 91 Custom Shop. It looks a little red in this photo... it's actually orange. It also got relic'ed the old fashioned way - by playing the shit out of it for 30 years. Catching up on this thread - Straight Fret is also where I took my ruined duo jet. Julio did the work rather than Danny, and it wasn’t plek’d, but great results. I think Julio still works there (I also have his contact if anyone is looking for a guy to take on a project like that), and Danny is also great.

January 29, 20223 yr Somebody somewhere is tired of her shit. She seems pretty happily married for a long time. Which says a lot considering it’s a rarity in human nature and a super rarity in the “it’s all about me” world of stardom. Which only makes her hotter in my book. Man, I really need a Rickenbacker. I’ll be in my bunk.

January 29, 20223 yr Author I'm sure I posted those pictures before but yeah, it really was amazing. I thought I was going to have to replace everything, and actually the only new metal on the guitar is the bridge. Here it is getting ruined (a month of this plus a couple of years sitting in a case while I generally didn't take care of things) 😬😬😬 Spoiler

Good for them.He doesn’t get the “Feel like making love” treatment. He gets bitched at for loading the dishwasher wrong. He’s probably lasted that long because he gets long periods of privacy and solitude while she’s out playing rock star.
January 30, 20223 yr I'm not sure which thread to post this in. I know a lot of us have a huge admiration of the efficiency of Mike Campbell, and the brilliance of "American Girl" is widely accepted. This is incredible.
January 30, 20223 yr Mike Campbell's voice cracks me up. He sounds almost exactly like Tom Petty. I guess that's what Gainesville sounds like.

I think you have to because it’s hard (for me anyway) to match the dynamics of that band. Seems to work though.Great video. Tone is insane.

Campbell walking through all the little fills and riffs he played on that track just shows how those simple little flourishes can make a good song great. Some other examples where fills are key to a song are “Go With the Flow” by QOTSA and “Wrathchild” by Iron Maiden.
January 31, 20223 yr Author Definitely I’ve been doing the meedly parts at the end wrong. Also I want his guitar. Is he still playing with Fleetwood?
January 31, 20223 yr Mike Campbell and The Dirty Knobs released a single from their upcoming second album just last week.
January 31, 20223 yr Yea it’s on another thread around here somewhere.Cool tune. But man they need a singer.
January 31, 20223 yr This does sound pretty fucking awesome... I’m pretty sure an original ‘54 Strat is everyone’s dream guitar, or one of them anyway.
January 31, 20223 yr Yesterday at band practice I got to try this out. It's a Les Paul Collector’s Choice #44 “Happy Jack” 44A Vic DaPra Burst 2017. My trader buddy traded a vintage SG Special for it. I think he got a deal. I've always wondered about these Collector's Choice models and their exorbitant (to me) pricing. But damn, if this wasn't just like holding a real six figure LP. Run through my Mesa, it delievered all the Zep/ZZ tones and more. Plus the difference between the neck on my r8 and this 59 profile was significant. To my hands, this one was better, but I realize that's a "some like chocolate and some like strawberry" kind of review. Anyhow, I can now say, I get why these command top dollar. It's as close as any mortal man may get to playing one of the 1200 or so original bursts.
January 31, 20223 yr I also got to try this out. It's a 1954 Sparkle Jet. The first ones appeared, labeled as Duo Jets, in 1953. You can recognize the '54 because it doesn't have the script logo at the top anymore, bu tit still has the wedge shaped (as opposed to later tear drop shaped) pick guard. It sounded great, and it light as it's pretty much a semi-hollow without f-holes. But the set up was terrible. The action was down low at the cowboy chord part of the neck, which is fine for what our singer needed, but up near the widdle-dee area of the fretboard I could drive a truck under the strings. I'm not sure how that gets fixed.

January 31, 20223 yr So I missed being in Orlando for this by a day. Would have been cool, but I might have wound up with a second mortgage. Edited January 31, 20223 yr by Goredho
