When I was a teenager, I bought guitar magazines all the time. There were always these ads with these players I'd never heard of. These were the days before YouTube and streaming, and there was no way broke me going to spend money on a record by some random musician I'd only seen in ads.

I always wondered about this guy Ray Gomez. What was it about him that merited being featured in an ad.

Well I just remembered all these years later and I just now looked him up on YouTube for the first time.

Damn. The guy can play. No wonder he was featured in an ad.

And he looks like Austin Powers. Yeah baby.

I was going to say something snippy like, "Well, who else would pimp for Peavey" but 1. the guy can rock, 2. Ed eventually worked with Peavey on the 5150, and 3. after watching a video this week on "how to get the right bass tone" I've regained respect for my bass amp and its 8-band EQ.

Speaking of odd guitars that shouldn't work as well as they do, I nominate Danelectros.

Good 12 string electric for super cheap.

I was in Mexico, sitting at a patio table, drinking beer and eating tacos.  Some kid, maybe 10 or 12, comes over singing and playing a guitar, poorly.  I told him "I'll give you 5 bucks if you let me tune that for you".  He did.

5 bucks should have gotten you the entire box of chiclets.

Two telecasters are better than one.

Don’t laugh, but I bought one of these at Sears in 1962 for about $50. Their cheapest guitar in a amp/case combo.
Yep, it sounded as shitty as it looked….plus my deaf music ears didn’t help.

Still have it? Kay or Silvertone? Would be worth a bit, not a fortune but some money. Those have gotten cool over the past 20 years or so, Jack White was a big proponent of weird funky old department store guitars. And then you have boutique makers like Fano building guitars in that aesthetic.

danelectro is indeed weird, I feel like they are the cockroach of the department store brands? I don’t know enough about their early history.

new spark hardware, curious.

No shit. No isolation transformer, guessing a two-prong plug. Amazing Brat made it this long.

I have one of these sitting in the corner of my music room.  I'll take a pic sometime and post it.

I also have a couple of amp in cases they were basically giving away, just in case.

Well known that those Silvertone amp in a box all have it.

I love fun stage wear and man that is so much fun. Now all you need is a 59 LP and a Marshall stack to go with.

Grabbed some shirts, too.

I'm a sucker for vintage pearl snap shirts more than I am for telecasters.

Tone is in the hand-embroidered clothing. It is known..

One is half basset hound, so not too tall.

Are we renaming this to the Guitar pron and mariachi drip thread?

We need a stage wear thread, to go along with guitar pron, amp pron, and pedalphile threads.

Has anyone put any Bootstrap pickups in a Strat?
The forums pretty much universally think they are pretty good and underpriced at $50.
I stumbled onto a 89 MIJ ST-54 with the big soft v neck that is perfect for me in every way except for the crap electronics and ceramic pickups.
Was thinking about giving them a try but can’t decide on which Strat set I’d want.

Never heard of them but for me the Golden Ale would be interesting. I rarely come off of the neck pickup on my SSS Strat, but it would be nice to know there is some grunt in the bridge if needed.

Second pick would probably just be the vintage ‘54s.

I've been playing the '86 Les Paul a lot. It is a fucking great guitar.

Those were the two that I was trying to decide on.

NOT GOING CR ON THE MUSIC THREAD...

But the T shirt is kinda funny.
