This is really cool. Custom guitar designs by hand. This girl is a true artist.

Some of the build and artwork process for the recently completed custom Cindy Model-T for @paris_texas55 ;; Mark wanted an art deco and blues themed model-t with the detailing based on the Chrysler Building and of course depicting Robert Johnson at the crossroads.

This is all woodburned and handpainted by me. Aluminum inlay and logo cut by @jonny_bergman and engraved and painted by me. 12” radius. Custom @mjscustompickups and CSG raw steel hardware. Frenched-in Gotoh aged tuners. Body and neck 200 year old NYC pine. Skimtop back. Thanks so much Mark!!!! [emoji94][emoji445][emoji92][emoji1665][emoji91]

Forgot to add, that Swell amp is supposedly based on the famous Trainwreck amps from Ken Fischer.

The guy Lowell who builds them knows his shit. His story on the website is worth a read.

I’ve never played a Danelectro so don’t really have an opinion on that

I've yet to have a Dano that weighed more than 6 pounds. It's noticable.

They’re made of Masonite dude.

Jimmy Page would sweat them apart every couple of shows.

I wouldn’t part with mine though.

Btw our new guitar arrived today. But I’m of town so I won’t be able to pick it up for about a week.

In the meantime, check out these guitars that belonged to Juan Manuel de Rosas and some other stuff that feels relevant.

Are you in Argentina? I just got back from there. Go eat a steak at Don Julio's. It was one of those things that lived up to the hype. Best steak I've ever eaten. River Plate at home was the wildest sporting event I've ever attended, Boca Juniors is probably even more so.

Digging myself some Gary Richrath tonight.  I'm not quite sure how he gets a Les Paul to quack like a Strat, but good for him, I'll add it to the infinitely long list of "things I can't do on guitar":

Jeff Beck is apparently auctioning off some gear, but the Christie's website is borked.  I'm sure he's thrilled.

I'm pretty sure he's beyond caring at this point.

I never get tired of watching this one. That's a band at its peak. They're on fire.

I see him lingering in some sort of adjacent universe waiting for Tal to show up.

Then you watch this one, a complete different guy, and realize what a gift he had. Incredible talent.

Another one we lost not too long ago.

At this point, buy the fucking ticket.

Sí, I am in Buenos Aires.

I looked for matches but none are happening while I’m here.

Don Julio’s duly noted.

I was in Buenos Aires a few years back.  The GF and I met two other couples (one gay, one straight) in the hotel bar one afternoon.  They were fun, funny people, all of them.  One of the gay dudes spoke the lingo and had been there a lot.  He suggested we all go to dinner together at a steakhouse that he liked. So, we jump in a couple of cabs.   I remember eating like a pig...I think the 6 of us had 4 nice bottles of Malbec.  Great steaks, sides, trimmings, etc.   When it came time to split the bill, I think our share was 45 bucks or so.   I wish I remember the name of the restaurant.

Was hoping to see an L-5 like Maybelle Carter’s. Although that’s an archtop so there’s probably complicated math.

Speaking of this 46 L-5 came up for sale in my neighborhood. Looks legit. Probably a decent price.

You guys probably all know this, but I just learned about banner guitars and now I am obsessed.  These are tributes to the 1942 models built by women.  Must have.

That’s great looking Gibson.

On a related note, I finally broke down and tried a set of Stringjoy strings on my acoustic after hearing/reading so much about them.

I’ve always used dadarios which I buy for $50 for a 10 pack on Amazon. The Stringjoys were $15 for the set.

Played a 3 hour gig set with them last night and they were fantastic. Had a great warm sound, but still crisp without being warm or muddy at all. Really really sounded good.

The dadarrios have a tendency to get harsh in the highs. And they don’t last very long - 2, maybe 3 gigs at best is all the last before they go dead to my ears. We’ll see how long the stringjoys last. Not sure I really want to pay triple the price of they don’t last longer.

I know you all were dying for that info. You’re welcome. Happy new year!

I have a set in my drawer. Maybe I’ll pick a victim and restring.

If you go to Don Julio’s, get the provoleta de cabra.

It is one of the very few places that you can get provoleta made with goat’s milk vs cow milk and it’s much tastier, plus it is easier on the digestive tract.

I would also recommend getting a bife de chorizo (NY Strip). Don’t get the lomo (beef tenderloin), because it isn’t as tasty and it may even be too tender. Either the bife de chorizo or the ojo de bife (ribeye) are the only two steaks you should consider.

This used to be a locals spot until my friends (food bloggers & travel bloggers) started writing about it as a hidden gem and now it’s so packed (and probably more expensive) that it isn’t as much of as locals place as it used to be.

Also have heard that they open a little earlier than in the past (7pm?) to accommodate a seating of typical tourists before a second seating of seasoned travelers/ expats/ well-healed locals. Cannot verify.

I’m actually curious if they touch on the Shifty Shellshock performance. I can’t imagine that they would really do that but it went kinda viral and then he died.

Need advice/suggestions from you experts.....

I have two acoustic guitars that I need to either sell as is, repair, or trade if possible.

I have a Seagull S6 Cedar that's probably 25 years old and was my first guitar, which for a long time was basically a piece of furniture I'd play open chords on until I decided to actually learn barre chords and a few simple melodies etc. For that reason it has some sentimental appeal and the wear and tear of an old ass acoustic guitar. A couple of years ago I noticed the string action was crazy high and couldn't figure out why until I looked closer and saw a crack/separation where the heel meets the neck of the guitar. I loosened all the stings to take enough pressure off so it wouldn't pull away further and have it stored in a case in my closet. Is this a relatively simple fix a competent luthier can repair that won't cost more than the value of the guitar? Is this just something that can be clamped and glued or is the repair more involved than that?

image.png.c09580f2f77eb699937e04d43c7fb001.png

My main acoustic that I've been playing for the last couple of years is a PRS Angelus AE 50 that I really enjoy playing but about two months ago I stupidly set it down in a chair next to me when distracted by a phone call or something and she slid out of said chair and crashed hard on her side on the floor and cracked the shit out of the finish and splintered the wood a bit. I was very upset about it because it damaged it significantly, even though it still plays ok but slips out of tune more than it did before. The damaged area is right where my elbow rests when playing and I have to be careful not to damage it further.

Well, my wife surprised me for Christmas with a replacement PRS, the same guitar (bought from GC). So now I have one damaged one and brand new one. My question for you guys is what should I do about this one? Do I sell it as is or trade in somewhere or is this a fixable repair that won't break the bank? Do I fix it and use the return money at GC on, say, a Jazzmaster/Strat/Jaguar to go with my Squier Classic Vibe Tele?

Can anyone recommend reputable acoustic luthiers to contact for repair estimates?

Black Fenders are like black dogs at the pound. It's hard to find a home for them.
