It’s still in the car because my wife is sitting in the kitchen…

It’s absurd that I’ve been playing for 37 years and this is my first good SSS Strat. But I’m excited about it. I’m gonna either get a tortoise shell guard to match my HH, or mint green.

I've got my strat off the rack and next to my desk right now. Everybody should have a good strat.

That seems like a good price too. I guess part of getting old is remarking on the effects of inflation but I was googling the other day to double check my recollection that when I got my '98 American Standard the market rate was below $1000. And I guess now the equivalent is the.... American Professional II, which is damn near $2k?

Anyways, great guitar, olympic white is a great color although you almost need a left handed bridge. Tortoiseshell would look good, mint or... gold might look good? The guard on your big apple strat is a dark tortoiseshell right?

Definitely a good price, I just sold that '99 AmStd for 950.

The math checks out for me.

I'm sending this to my wife right now.  She's going to say, "you'd have to play 8 hours a day to get your value out of those guitars."

To which I'd respond, "Ha ha!...."

Fender  Telecaster Owned and Used by Mike Bloomfield Solid Body Electric Guitar (1963), ser. #L11155, brown tolex hard shell case. Just $275,000.

They have been trying to move that thing for a minute. Too bad John Neuse hacked it up

But Reverb says it’s expected to sell soon! It’s in 15 people’s carts!

The guild d-55 arrived today but I’m supposed to let it acclimate for 24 hours. What’s this bullshit and do I have to do it?

Judging by your username, no.

Is not bullshit. Though 24 hours seems like a long time.

I had a buddy who played steel and had a fancy custom finish on one of his. Roadie pulled it from a warmish tour bus straight onto a cold theater stage and opened it. Finish went all cloudy and could not be fixed. Or so he told me.

Okay, I waited. Finish is great. Guitar sounds amazing, but in need of a major setup.

that's a pretty fine winter Sunday right there.

"one dog goes one way, the other dog goes the other way...the guy with the Tele goes what do ya' want from me"

One of those dogs better shout "Freebird" or I'm gonna be disappointed.

Most I ever spent on a guitar was a Rickenbacker 360 12-string fresh from the factory. It was absolute gorgeous and sounded great, and being a Beatles and Tom Petty fan I wanted one for a long time. But that neck kept seriously bowing on it like a bitch, so after about 6 adjustments over several months I sold it, and I was relieved to get my money back out of it.

I couldn't play it anyway with my fatass fingertips on that skinny neck. I struggle enough with 6 strings.

John Sykes, RIP. I photographed him here with the 2004 version of Thin Lizzy in Dallas.

Dropped it off at the luthier’s house today. Good news - I’m not crazy

Bad news - the neck is off. It has a “belly bulge” between the sound hole and side.

maybe good news - my guy is going to keep it a few days and then render an opinion. It it’s fixable, he can do it. If not, he’ll tell me and I can either return it or send it to Guild to fix.

Who among us can judge

The Oxblood was always gonna be the one. Several others got up around 750 I think

Edit: Shit it looks like Anoushka got over a million too

alright, so I think there's a reunion show fairly solidly in the works for my old band, hatchets are attempting to be buried, after a decade+ and my drunk ass is not without blame and what have you, it's good and time and i'm excited about it. I really hadn't even picked up the bass in probably 10 years, not for real anyways. I think I posted earlier where i had pulled out my old Mike Dirnt P and took it in to get back in order. The neck was pretty good out of whack, it was pretty rusty. I had for a while been thinking about pulling some of the parts off of it and putting it on a new body, doing a phoenix bass kinda thing, but I've been running through old songs and it's feeling pretty great. Goddamn I wish the one instrument I ever used this heavily had had a nitro finish instead of this flaky poly but whatever -

G650 posted in the Non-Musical Parent thread and it send me down memory lane remembering an important concert I went to and high school, and some pictures from around that time...

....which made me want to go open the case of doom that has been closed forever. I'm going to blame the alcoholism and maybe Houston weather but I have fucked up more than a few guitars and that bass right there is one of them. I think that had less to do with booze and depression and more with being left at my dad's house and getting moved to the enclosed porch for a while.  Anyways, maybe I should restore this thing, maybe instead of paying I guy I'll try my hand at this. I said this case has been closed forever - I think I pretty much stopped using this bass once I got the Dirnt P before going to college and leaving this one behind. I played in the church cross section band in high school, and the case still has loose sheet music from 2004 in it

crossed my fingers on this one....

expiration date of 2005, a little swollen, but it nothing bad seems to have happened. Replaced the battery, plugged it in - the bass is almost in tune. that's unbelievable. bad crackly output, but it works. I need to figure out the best way to try and clean rust off of the pickups at least. I might should just replace all the screws. and the pickup cover for sure.

or maybe i'll just take it to the guy... i should restore this thing though.  If i do this I think that'll be the last of my sad case of shame guitars
