I bet that Wilco show was great.

And I still kinda want one of those Greg Koch reverends

Reverends are as good as any guitar you can buy when you get it set up.  I love mine.

I have a suggestion that will make your life much easier. It is a tried & true solution that you will thank me for.

I was in Guitar Center for the 1st time in ages the other day. The prices on guitars have apparently went through the roof. I wish I would have bought more 10 years ago.

I haven't had the urge for a new one in ages, but damn Gibson did a good job on this Kirk Hammet Greeny LP. Im very tempted.

Damn. Gibson using laurel on their boards now? That's some light looking rosewood.

I think it's just dry. When I leveled my R7 it was that color till I oiled it.

Does it say "Kirk Hammet" anywhere?  That would stop me in my tracks.  (Also the fact that I don't have $3K burning a hole in my pocket.)

You know, the best time to have bought a guitar is 10 years ago.

The second best time is today.

Did a thing last weekend that starts with a D and ends with an 18 that I do not regret…

I don't know if I need a 4th Martin Dreadnought but I kinda do and it's a D18. I guess my DM is kinda sorta that thing, but that's my only "mahogany" dread (and the mahogany is laminate on both the back and the sides, iirc). Anyways, D18 - awesome. I want a D18 and a hog j45.

i've really enjoyed playing it. i find the action to be perfect for me and the tone is plenty mellow relative to my taylor which is much brighter (and the action is a little high for my taste). it's like playing a telecaster neck vs. a les paul neck to me. anyway, enjoying it.

oh, and it is so light. so, so light. love it.

Is that the old lady who owns it, now?

The Nachobursts look amazing (looking and from a components standpoint).  I'm sticking with my 2014 LP Traditional.  Best pickups ever.  But damn, that's sexy.

Just say you got it from Kevin Hart.

Kirk Herbstreit would also be a hard no.

like so

Sidis needs to add a gold top and you need to add a white custom.

On this page I learned that prices have went.

🤔

What will prices do next?

Yeah.  Goldtops rule.  I had a 1991 Hall of Fame edition All-Gold Deluxe.  It was a hell of a guitar.  I thought the neck was cracked and traded it for a 1973 Deluxe Reverb (no regurts).  But I now think it was just some checking on the neck (it was gold-back as well.  Basically among the first "Custom Shop" models (and I paid 90s pricing).  So now I have a 2014 LP Traditional, and I wouldn't trade it for anything.  It's a 10=pounder that feels like 7 and has some of the best pickups I've heard on anything.  So if you only can have one, take the one that feels and sounds best, I guess.  Or both, even if you can't afford it.

Walked out my door to these.

Had a 70s era gold top. Sold it in like 1980 when I was starving and poor. Could kick myself. That guitar was the bomb.

I picked up a PA at a GC today and they had a used Sire Larry Carlton Tele knock off.  Really nice for the $500 price tag.  Seems like they would make a great gigging guitar - sounded good, played good, relatively cheap and relatively painless if it were to take a fall or leave with someone else.  Aren’t some of ya’ll fans?  I can see why.

Ive got a Sire LP with p90s. For 500 bucks its head and shoulders above most Epiphones.

And the Sire bass I recently purchased beats the MIM Fender P Bass i have .

Yeah, this Tele was a perfectly good player.  I don’t think I’ve played a Fender American Pro or equivalent “standard” grade USA Tele that was better at probably double the price or more used.  I briefly considered buying it, but I’ve got a lifetime Tele already.

Guitars made it through unscathed. I did have to remove my sister’s knitting and send it through the scanners separately.

A Secret Trove of Rare Guitars Heads to the Met | The New Yorker

Yeah, it's going to be great. Ziff has been collecting these things since '87. Apparently at one point he had almost 300 bursts!!

When I bought my Super Dragon amp I got to speak to Perry Margouleff a bit (he was coordinating the sales), and I got the feeling that this collection had been his biggest work. Good dude btw.

Got a client looking for a vintage tele…. What are some cool years?

I always love the grip on those Herco picks, and the roundish tip. I used the .50s, just seemed like the thing that felt god. But I never knew what the hell I was doing.

I'm afraid to learn what "vintage" means, but I had an early 90s American Standard that was a kickass guitar, and of course my dumb self sold it maybe 15 years ago, because I'm an idiot with a problem.

Lowkey best Tele year, 1988.

But you have all the usual suspects, 54 Blackguard, late 60's maple cap, etc..

Assuming you mean vintage in terms of spec vs truly something like a legit '50s tele, these are the ones I've liked the best in no particular order.

  • Late 80s AVRIs (sorta vintage spec, made in the USA, somewhat collectable today at custom shop prices)
  • Early 90s Time Machine series (The start of the custom shop guitars at Fender, sorta vintage spec, made in the USA, don't show up often, custom shop prices)
  • 90s/00s American Vintage series (standard grade but vintage specced, often moreso than the AVRI and Time Machines, made in the USA, normal used prices)
  • Custom shop year-targeted reissues from 2000 to present (custom shop grade, most true to vintage spec, made in the USA, custom shop prices)

Basically I am seconding what @jimmyjazz said.  Late 80s/90s eras fenders in those lines have been my favorite as far as vintage-style reissue guitars.  Imo, its hard to beat a 90s American Vintage at $1200-$1500.  I don't have much experience with the newer vintera or road worn lines which I believe also target a vintage look and feel if not exacting adherence to vintage specs.

I cant get along with a 50s style with a slim neck. Maple board needs to have a fat neck for me, but 60s with rosewood...I want it slim. Weird, but that's how it works for me.

So I'm not sure if I posted before about the PAF my old man has had since '72. It came out of an old parts bin at a local music shop here the same time he got the Melody Maker husk I have, during an era when PAFs went bad they were thrown away. So anyways sat in his junk drawer for about 50 years until a couple years ago he gave it to me in hopes someone in the family would eventually fix the fucking thing. I took it to my guy a few months back to diagnose and repair, and in the course of going through parts he had on hand, we just discovered today that one if his old Patent # pickups was essentially identical to my PAF. My initial plan was to put the PAF in the neck, and switch the bridge magnet out with a vintage Patent # one, but since we found that the Patent # is an early which are functionally identical to PAFs, we put both in together.

Playing this through the Tremolux, wow, I'm stunned with the sound.

CMan was worried about his guitars in the overhead bin, meanwhile, my Rickenbass!

Sold my Super Reverb on CL today, I think i priced it too low. My phone and email were blowing up and I got more than asking for it.
