Update on cheap Squier Strat:  it doesn't sound great, kinda thin.  There's no point in keeping the body ($120) and building out a frankenstrat.  I think this is going to go on the "give it to a nephew" list.

My strat is made from a Classic Vibe strat body and sounds great, even when not plugged in.  Did you fiddle with the pickup height at all?

Oh, wait, I just remembered that mine has Am Std pickups in it.  Disregard all but the acoustic playing take.

I could buy a nicer body than I could sell this weirdo for.  At that point I'm even on the frankenstrat.

Would you be able to fit everyone from the gameday threads on a guitar?

Dibs on the bigsby Les Paul

this new Isbell signature is actually interesting, although if I’m reading this correctly (it is a Road Series guitar) it is made in Mexico -

https://www.martinguitar.com/guitars/custom-special-editions/0-10E-Retro-Jason-Isbell.html

the O-17 is obviously nice, but $5k. The 10E has nice specs and a reasonable price at about $1k but I think a Mexican Martin is a bigger step down from a Nazareth guitar than the same step for Fender.

Yeah, that would be my concern.  We know most MIM Fenders are legit.  Not sure about Martin.

I think the Saudi's offered him a billion but he turned them down.

Tom Bukovac often refers to guitars as "wood pussy."

Now you know why, bitches.

I like how it has little complimentary dicks on either end.

I have the exact same one. It’s on the same list. I also cannibalized a screw from the bridge because somehow one is missing from my #1 (for god knows how long).

One downside of the little Spark head and cab is that it’s a little small to sit on the floor, and I can’t tilt it back or the head will fall off.

I'm thinking about taking apart and hitting it with some weird rattlecan spray paint.  Any recs (besides vaginas)? Who makes a cool glossy sparkle rattlecan paint?

Ratchet strap that thing on.

Bass player showed up tonight with a real 1959, no big deal

Is the pick guard original? Didnt realize anodized pick guards were a thing in 1959.

That might be the ugliest thing I've ever seen, and I majored in engineering.

Could David Gilmour make this thing sing or is it just an odd-looking novelty piece?

No idea

Neighborhood band party was a lot of fun. We had too many people but who cares.

The young lady on the right has a great voice. She did some Winehouse, Tedeschi, Joplin.

I’m strategically placed behind the bass player.

Did Jason and the Scorchers have a steel guitar?

More important wisdom from REK (and I always love trying to guess the number of the Martin - I got it this time!)

Never heard of him.  googleizing tells me he is/was based in Austin.  Anybody ever go see him?  Pretty staggering talent.

He's Canadian

From Katie's in Bacliff.  (Been there a few times)

He's definitely spent some time worshipping at the altar of SRV.

Well, unless his own bio is wrong he's Canadian-born but moved to Austin for his wife's job and then relocated to the UK.

Yes.  I was just referring to where he was originally from.

If he’s Canadian he is still technically a royal subject of the King of England

Anyone know anything about this? Tour dates starting in January. Belly Up in Solana Beach, I’m looking at you.

Mike is a Hammond B3 guy, he kinda takes the role of the bass player, unless they're adding one.  He dates Sue Foley (or at least did the last time I talked to him).  Go see them if you get the chance.  I mean, Billy & Whipper?  Crimony.

The BUT is a terrific venue.  See you there?

Nothing too fancy, but a buddy of mine makes a living doing leather work (jokes here) and sent this to me. Its a nice little place for picks, even fits on the guitar strap so I have them close. He does custom costuming for movies and tv. I'm going to have him do the work for a Waylon tele.
