November 7Nov 7 Pulled the trigger on a 2015 Collings om2h esb today. I’ll post pics when she arrives.

November 10Nov 10 Here's one for this thread. I've had my radar up for a decent mini-bucker guitar, preferably a Firebird of some sort. This one popped up and I dig it, though it's beyond my price range. I like it because usually you see these with 3 P-90s, not 3 minis: https://reverb.com/item/93044838-1965-gibson-firebird-vii-owned-and-played-by-the-dandy-warhols-peter-holmstrom

November 13Nov 13 Author Looks like a … Collings in the OOO size with rosewood back/sides? I like the burst - almost more of a vignette than a burst.
November 13Nov 13 I’m done. I can’t imagine a finer guitar. That’s a beautiful guitar, but let’s keep the crazy talk to a minimum.

November 13Nov 13 Saw some great guitar gear at the Jeff Tweedy show the other night. Got my curiosity aroused (see the Concerts thread). First Sima Cunningham got some really nice tones out of one of these bad boys. Essentially a scaled down ES-175 (though judging from Reverb, somehow on a par in price?). https://reverb.com/item/86852634-early-50-s-gibson-es-140 Then Jeff played one of these, which is just crazy to look at. Some discussion about it here: https://jefftweedy.substack.com/p/gear-talkin-21-kawai-moonsault?fbclid=IwY2xjawOC3A5leHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETFySTNISmFOZzlNbEpBN21oc3J0YwZhcHBfaWQQMjIyMDM5MTc4ODIwMDg5MgABHhVs6k9DblyuCk0NkAGUAfkBogEeaA0jxUmfazYxDHxFuX1iase4HQQ-s95D_aem_covuXY3Js7gGOFaEoXWwkw&triedRedirect=true

November 13Nov 13 Author #teamjaybennett bananas to have not heard of collings, although I suppose i'm fairly guitar obsessed. I'd describe Collings as the most prominent boutique acoustic brand, if it is still considered boutique. I'm not a historian of the brand but my understanding is that they are very high quality and mostly in the Martin tradition. I don't think I've played one, although I did try a few Waterloos (made by Collings) when I was convinced I needed a parlor.

November 13Nov 13 I'm just an ignorant asshole, I suppose. I've never seen one in a store, I don't recall seeing anyone playing one. Hell, I've never noticed one on Reverb for that matter. But, I agree that they look fantastic.

Collings are like a restaurant with no website and no sign and off the beaten path and no prices on the menu, the dining room has five tables, and the food is incredible and you only know about due to word of mouth.

They will not. If it's anything like the Les Paul auction, they will go for amounts that do not reflect the reality of what they are. Rather, they will go sky high for the opportunity to twist the same knobs as their hero Joe. I'm going to sign up anyhow though. Where there's life, there's hope.

The 1968 drip edge AB165 is intriguing but already is at the top of what I'd ever want to pay for it. But I'm eyeballing that hat and those flared pants. /signed 5'10" and definitely chubby /5'10" and chubby should be the new Surly motto Edited November 14Nov 14 by dcbc

I'm honestly not a huge fan of the piggyback Bassman tones. Yes, you can make some nice, heavy rock sounds come out of them, but they're a bit nasally most of the time. They were cool things to grab when you could get them for under $500, but those days have been long gone for a while.
November 14Nov 14 How different is the Marshall Bluesbreaker when compared to a Bassman? I think they have similar circuits.
November 14Nov 14 The Bluesbreaker is going to break up earlier and has a better natural distortion than the Bassman. Just my opinion.
