So isn't the difference between the 62 Bluesbreaker and the Bassman just using EL34 or KT66 power tubes? Edit to add that speakers are a huge part of the equation, especially in 62 when they went 2x12 Celestion. Apparently 61 was 4x10 like the Bassman. Edited November 15Nov 15 by dcbc

But what wasn't nasally but would definitely have that thing sort of like a 50 watt Bassman was the Bassman 100. My first real amp was a 1973 Bassman 100, which I bought from my guitar teacher for $100. I also bought from him an early 70s Sunn 4x12 with Eminence flat magnet speakers in it. At first, I used it as a PA for a band I sang in, but as I played guitar more, it became my main amp for years. I was a simple person and just ran both channels bridged with all knobs on 10 and the master at 3 or so. When I sold it, I did a demo with the master on 10 and the rest dialed down and learned I could have really gotten some pretty (window shaking) sounds out of that. The Bass channel, which I never played through really, was beautiful sounding (I was playing through a pair of 1968 Jensens) when I discovered that, having sold the Sunn speaker a couple of years earlier. Suffice it to say, I acquired both of these items in the early 90s and got 5x for them before the market went COVID crazy.

As the owner of a Tweed Twin from the Custom Shop as well as a Harvard and Deluxe, I'm gonna tell you there are amps you can crank and amps you can't. That Bassman isn't exactly an Amp you can't crank. So I'm gonna make a ruling right here. Crank it! Yeah, that 1x12 Harvard clone was my last purchase. It hit just the right spot. And while not the $100 Bassman 100, I felt like it was priced pretty reasonably. Edited November 15Nov 15 by dcbc

It also was upgraded at the factory with nicer inlays. It’s incredible.

Her dad passed about a month ago and one of the things she brought back from his house was a very good condition 1998 Taylor 710-CE (similar one pictured below). I played it a bunch while there and asked what she was planning to do with it. She didn't know yet or have any idea what it was worth. I showed her the make and model number on the tag inside the body and sent her a bunch of links to what they sell for in stores. Followed up with what I considered a very fair offer, which was significantly higher than 2 lowball offers she'd already received. She's gonna take some time to think about it, but she told my wife she'll probably end up selling it to me. Fingers crossed. Long time bump coming. I bought it. We went to her Dad's memorial service in Louisiana this past weekend and left with the Taylor in tow. Strings are old and it smells a bit musty from being stored in an old cabin for a long time, but otherwise in great condition. Gonna give it some TLC this weekend (take the old strings off, polish the tuning nobs, give it a good wipe-down, and put some fresh elixirs on).
November 19Nov 19 That’s awesome. I have a similar guitar - 2004 810 CE. I think those old Taylor dreads are great. Don’t put those slimy elixirs on it though 😊

Hey, at least you weren't like my buddy who had the following exchange with a librarian at the PCL: Buddy [using most upbeat Pollyanna tone]: Hey! How you doing?! When is the baby due? November 24Nov 24 NUGSD New used guitar stand day! I was at Goodwill a while ago killing time and ran across this 5 guitar stand. Looked pretty decent so I blew $10 on it. It's a K&M, haven't looked for a model number. But the ones of the same brand that look like it online go for $280. Do what, now? I guess I should put my $8 vintage Kay parlor guitar on it that I also found at Goodwill several months ago. Edited November 24Nov 24 by DougO

I mean, the overall vibe, hell yeah The upside down bridge on a J45 style guitar also looks like the right kind of rude to go with an all black guitar. mustache bridge works well too. My reservations on that guitar would be.... what exactly is it? EC? Concert depth dreadnought? I'm not sure exactly what that means but it sounds like it might be dreadnought (or presumably, Gibson Jumbo) shaped but thinner front to back. Which is cool but I'd want to play it and understand the volume, unless I'm going to use it plugged in. If you are using it on stage that might actually be really cool and comfortable, especially if you like the baggs pickup. But I'd check to make sure i understand the size, and also maybe play a Gibson or two if you're used to Martin acoustic scale lengths. I feel like you specifically are a Taylor guy? Can't remember their scale.
November 26Nov 26 I was reluctantly in guitar center yesterday with a coworker helping him buy a first guitar (black epi LP, pretty cool actually) and I saw one of these on a stand by the door. The look caught my eye and it wasn’t some stupid priced Gibson for $6 grand. But I was there for a different purpose and didn’t want to spend any extra time in there so I didn’t check it out. I may go back and look, although if I have to interact with anyone there it will just piss me off. And I’m actually a Larrivee guy. I bought an OM style about 3 years ago. Played probably 200 gigs with it since. Couldn’t tell you the scale length or nut width or any other spec whatsoever other than it sounds fantastic plugged in and it’s the best playing acoustic I’ve ever encountered. And I appreciate the feedback. Edited November 26Nov 26 by tbone_

November 26Nov 26 I also eyeballed a similar p90 Gibson at GC yesterday. Something about those things. Yours looks cool as shit.

November 27Nov 27 Author Ok I’m a big fan of buying guitars that you randomly like when you’re in the guitar store (my orange gretsch, my j45, my les paul, my dirnt P) and I’m a big fan of buying guitars that fit your theme. Mine is something like “classics checklist” (blonde tele, cherry burst les Paul, burst strat, d28, burst 45, etc, shit maybe it’s bursts) and yours is “none more black”. I’m also a fan of going back to stores to buy the guitar you didn’t buy the last time (my black gretsch, my d41) so look I’ll finally cut to the chase and ask that you post pics and maybe even live video of our new guitar. also, I think Gibson just reintroduced some version of that Les Paul Special/Junior. Maybe it was the double cutaway that was only available as like a Rick Beato signature or something? I still want one of those specials or juniors.
November 27Nov 27 I love TV yellow double cutaways. John Croslin (Zeitgeist/The Reivers) had a Hamer that sounded fantastic.

December 1Dec 1 That's a lot more expensive than my anecdote, but it resonates in a similar manner: Years ago I was driving down Airport Blvd and I saw a guy on the sidewalk carrying a 7-11 bag. This was Friday evening, right at quittin' time. Out of nowhere the bag burst and his just-purchased 6er of bottled beer disintegrated on the sidewalk. The look on his face was gut-wrenching. He was probably gonna have a nice night, drinkin' some Buds, watching some hockey or some such but no, God stepped in and destroyed his evening.

I was working and I hear some dude walking down the street behind our office saying some weird shit. I look out the window in time to see a guy with a plastic bag from the nearby convenience store. The thing is loaded with 40s of malt liquor. Predictably it breaks and one bottle falls to the pavement and shatters. The dude loses his shit and proceeds to smash the rest of them on the street while yelling shit that would make Red Foxx blush. Foolishly, I did not get my phone out in time to record his tantrum.

Darrel Braun has reviewed a Firefly and I think Phil McKnight did as well and the ones they got were very playable. But they do caution that quality can vary. Could be a fun guitar to mod.
December 2Dec 2 My hope is to someday find a non-reverse Firebird that speaks to me: It must have minibuckers though. No P-90s. Not because they aren’t cool, but because I don’t have a minibucker guitar.
