I recall wondering what that notch was about years ago. Any idea what the backstory is there? Why only 68/69s? And why pearloid bottom? It looks like a standard three ply pick guard from the side.

No idea why the notch is there.

Regarding the pearloid bottom, I think this is what I remember reading, but I can't find the link now so don't quote me on this. And this was probably speculation as opposed to being confirmed by Fender. In 68, Fender came out with the thinline Tele which had a pearloid pickguard. It was 3-ply with pearloid on top, black in the middle and white on the bottom. The speculation is that Fender bought a bunch of this pickguard material. They used it for pearloid pickguards and then they flipped it over to make all their white pickguards. So the white guards have pearloid bottoms. The 68 and 69 Strat white guards have pearloid bottoms too.

Here are some pics of a 68 Thinline that show the front and the back of the pickguard...

Anyone know what the switch between volume/tone is?  Maybe an on/off for the bridge so you can get all pups at once, or neck/bridge at once?

#4457

So, we had our 4th band practice and I realized something.  A person really needs to practice standing up.  If I were talking to a new guitarist, I would express upon them the importance of using the fret markers on the top of the neck and not on the fretboard.   Plus, the angle of the fretting hand changes quite a bit so my wrist and 'tennis elbow" has been really sore lately.  It is fun to play around on the couch or a stool, but standing up gives playing a whole new twist.

I just e-mailed asking for the entire spec sheet on this. So much going on.

Totally agree. I figure out sitting down but practice standing up.

What's "practice"?

it's a phenomenon in which the player works on learning a new song by repeatedly trying to play it until he develops the ability to decide he doesn't want to play that song after all

that's how I learned that I didn't want to play Yellow Ledbetter

It’s what I do sometimes to try to suck less.

I start . . . and then I start noodling . . . and pretty soon I'm writing a song.  I'm destined to never suck less.

That switch makes things sound different.

If they've never been sold how did Austin Vintage Guitars acquire them?

I'm betting someone just paid for everything left in Ray's store when it shut down.

I’m sorry but Strats aren’t supposed to look like furniture. Doesn’t work for me.

I’m kind of over fancy tops in general, which I know is incongruous given that I own a PRS.

Harrumph.

Lol

The heart wants what the heart wants, and it often doesn't make sense.

I'm in the opposite boat. I look at most PRSes and they look overwrought and try-hard to me. Then I see an overwrought, try-hard Strat and I'm doing a wolf-whistle.

I’d offer him $1k and not be surprised if he told you his offer is firm. That’s a nice American Tele. Real nice.

Offered 1050 and shot me back a decline! Lol saw that tho! 1150?

I don’t profess to make any sense on the subject.

I don’t love that color on that guitar (though I do on a Les Paul) but I’ve found my gaze lingering on those lately ever since I saw Chris Stapleton play one. Dem P90s.

Who’s gonna tell him?
