Just saying, if you calculated class ranking by average recruit rating, we'd be #5 in the country, ahead of Florida, Auburn, aggy, and Ohio State.

Can you give us a succinct, 74 page recap of 2020 recruiting?

Texas missed on a lot of guys and then they also didn't miss on a lot of a guys. They missed on some of the guys they tried to get to make up for the guys they missed. They didn't miss on some of the guys they tried to get to make up for the guys they missed. They missed on some of the guys they tried to get to make up for the guys they missed who they tried to get to make up for the guys they missed on. They didn't missed on some of the guys they tried to get to make up for the guys they missed who they tried to get to make up for the guys they missed on.

Is Collins the final piece for 2020?  Wasn't sure if Herman was still after anyone else.  I know it always was a small class but I thought it would be more than 19.

The positive: in this cycle, we weren't deperate to fill gaping holes like we have been so many NSDs in the last decade. We certainly have needs, but we have been building depth at most positions. Our floor is much higher. And now we wait to see if Herman can pull his head out of his ass and win a conference championship.

For all of the talk from Strong about the cake being baked (it wasn't), this roster is in the best shape its been in since about 2008. And even then, the cracks were starting to show in Oline recruiting that we have just now recovered from. Say what you will about Herman and the ones we missed out on this go around, he has done a good job evaluating and landing talent. Even when he missed on some elite guys, the back up plans have been solid and there isn't much dead weight on the roster. Sure, we have a linebacker problem and we have some long term needs at CB and WR that weren't addressed, but this is the first time in a long time where you can look at a recruiting class and think that nobody needs to be an immediate contributor.

I'm certain Herman's conference on the class will provide tons of in depth analysis of the recruiting year. I for one can't watch bc PSVue is gone.

Feels like we're a year late on getting this commitment, but at least it happened

Mike Roach: 2020 Texas class success is in the eye of the beholder

Quote

National Signing Day means the 2020 Texas class is just about wrapped up. Despite the turmoil of the 2019 season and a lot of staff turnover, the Longhorns were still able to land two big targets down the stretch. Depending on how you look at the last month, you can choose to see the 2020 class in a few different ways. When you consider where Texas was coming off of their Sugar Bowl victory over Georgia last year, this class was set up to score huge given a strong year.

The optimist will say that despite that staff turnover, they still landed two five-star prospects, filled most of their needs, and will likely finish with a top ten class. That part is true. Despite losing almost all of their defensive staff, Texas landed the top uncommitted player in the state today in five-star Bastrop Cedar Creek defensive lineman Alfred Collins. They also were able to sign Carthage athlete Kelvontay Dixon after a long and drawn out recruiting process. Dixon’s MVP performance at the 4A-D1 state title game showed he could stretch defenses vertically. The optimist can also say that the bar for success was incredibly high, and that’s true. In the last two cycles, Tom Herman and his crew brought in back to back top three classes. Anything short of top five was sure to be a disappointment.

The pessimist will say there were far too many missed opportunities in this class. A look at the 247Sports’ state rankings shows multiple elite prospects headed out of state. Texas offered five-star Denton Ryan athlete Drew Sanders relatively late and failed to offer five-star Rockwall wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba. They also missed out on targets like Savion Williams and Ennis Rakestraw down the line, in part, because they waited too long to offer. The realist, as always, will find the truth somewhere in the middle. While discussing what could have been is a common trope among recruiting writers, focusing on where they succeeded and learning from their mistakes would best serve the Texas staff. In the 2020 class, Texas landed arguably the best quarterback class in the country. They also signed a five-star running back in Bijan Robinson, one of their strongest offensive line groups in the Herman era, and multiple high-ceiling defensive line prospects.

Where can they learn? Too often, Texas was behind the eight-ball when it came to timing of offers. While they’ve shown the ability to make strong early evaluations, they could afford to be more aggressive moving forward. There are already changes underway as the new staff sent out a flurry of offers last week. The only way to consider a loss as failure is if you fail to learn from it. While the Texas staff can feel good about the class they signed in 2020, they can also use this as an opportunity to get better moving into 2021.

Alabama losing out on Jackson made Collins announcement a little more dramatic than I was hoping for.

Per the Twittersphere a couple of our recruits are getting bumps over at ESPN. Karic is apparently a composite 4 star now and Dajon Harrison is now a 4 star at ESPN.

Are you sure Dajon wasn't already a 4* on ESPN?

Nice to know that if he dies at any point while at Texas, we'll only have to wait 3 days for him to be off the DL.

I'd argue it was constantly calling low % pass plays on 2nd/3rd and short when you had two backs averaging 5+ that resulted in that record, but what do I know?

Uh slant to Duv was nothing but reliable. Tbh of Roach doesn't jump offsides we're 9-4. Don't Cover 0 blitz on 3rd and 17 and we're 10-3 with a marquee win. OU we admittedly got manhandled despite what the score says, TCU was embarrassingly poor coaching, and the Baylor game was just bad.

Speaking of which, CTJ, have you had your cat put down yet?

Sounds like CTJ's cat is Russian.

In that his cat puts you down.

Given the choice between me or the cat, in news that will surprise no one, the females would be handing me my packed bags and showing me the door. The only entity that tells Teh Major what to do is a 9 pound yorkie pom named Chrissy. He’s a nasty little son of a bitch unless something meaningful is at stake.

I thought high school was amazing. It was like being a tiger released on an island of dodgeball  birds. Sort of like surly.

Giles will get them DEs playing well. Especially in a 4-man front. Teaching technique has never been his issue. It's always been recruiting.

Hand is recruiting decently and coaching well.

I can't speak to Hagen in the slightest. I know nothing about him.
