There are several P5 programs in Texas so that is not particularly weird.

Of the 7 decommits before that, 5 were from the SEC.

If you felt the need to post this arbitrary nonsense on  2/24 ::

4 of the past 5 decommits were from the SEC

Goddamn, EJ is fucking worthless.

Eh. Not paying for players isn’t going to ruin our relationship with schools. Plus, Missouri is nice, sure, but not necessary.

What's the basis for saying he took cash? If all we know is that he visited and quickly changed his commitment, it's pretty aggy of us to accuse him of taking cash. He's a kid who probably has very little experience making real life decisions. For all we know, he got caught up in the moment of the visit. We've seen that before. We risk alienating these recruits if we attack their integrity every time someone changes his mind.

CMV: It's more likely that Illinois wins 3 games and Lovie and co. get cleaned out (including the Trinity coach) than it is that they sign Mookie.

After Illinois won 4 games last year, this happened:

It's the This Is Texas lanyard they get during visits

Makes since, so if they forget which state they are in during the visit.

You may need to read further up the thread.  Lots of stories regarding the Illini recruitment of the Beason kid from Duncanville last year.

Super K thinks Umanmielen will make a decision in April or May.  And it also sounds like our new pal the Grinch is still going strong as K said OU is now behind in his recruitment.

Translation please.

OU's new DC has not hit the ground running to our benefit including the Princely recruitment.

Super K (Football Brainiacs writer) thinks Umanmielen (4-star Manor DE) will make a decision in April or May.  And it also sounds like our new pal the Grinch (new OU DC Alex Grinch) is still going strong (he has a reputation as a terrible recruiter) as K said OU is now behind in his recruitment.

That extension actually made it cheaper for Illinois to fire him. Oldest trick in the book.

This. Extension plus killing the buyout is the sign a coach is getting fired the next year if he doesn't produce. Granted for Illinois that just means bowling probably, but can Lovie do that? Probably not. Even if he can, the fact that those are your goals is pretty pathetic

Smith - 1 post-season appearance and 1 post-season win in the past 11 seasons

Herman - 1 post-season appearance and 1 post-season win in the past 10 weeks

The choice is clear - go play for a bottom 4 B10 coach/program?

E.J. Holland: How Texas can replace Teriyon Cooper in this recruiting class

Mookie Cooper is no longer part of the class. The four-star athlete out of St. Louis Trinity Catholic (MO) backed out of his verbal pledge to the Longhorns on Friday morning (Cooper actually informed the staff last night). Cooper, a dynamo player, picked Texas over several major offers just a few weeks ago at Texas junior day. After a weekend visit to Illinois, his recruitment took an unexpected turn and left the Longhorns without the most explosive prospect in their class. Texas recruited Cooper to play the “H” position, which means he would have seen the majority of his time in the slot. A versatile recruit, Cooper was also in the plans for certain packages in the backfield.

So what’s next for the Longhorns at the position? Well, Texas did earn a signature from Gatorade National Player of the Year Jake Smith last year, which calms the sting of this loss. Still, the Longhorns would like to add another prospect to fill that role this cycle. Of course, Cooper is still in the cards. While Illinois now seems to be the favorite, stability around that program is a question mark, and Texas spent countless hours building relationships with Cooper and those around him. Getting a recruit back after losing him is never likely, but this is a unique situation. And the opportunity could be there if Texas wins again this fall.

The most logical choice may be three-star Carthage athlete Kelvontay Dixon. While he isn’t the most touted recruit, Dixon has visited campus more than any other prospect this cycle as he is the younger brother of freshman running back Keaontay Ingram. Dixon isn’t on par with Cooper just yet, but he is raw and has plenty of potential. If slot receiver doesn’t work out, Dixon also has upside as a cornerback. The loss of Cooper could make him a definite take. Texas is recruiting West Mesquite’s Ty Jordan as more of a running back, but he could easily fill the void left by Cooper. He is around the same size but thicker and has shown on the camp and 7v7 circuits that he can run routes like a P5 receiver.

An interesting option to explore would be four-star Dallas Jesuit athlete EJ Smith. He has a similar build to the aforementioned Smith and while he doesn’t have the same speed, he is an interesting player in the backfield and in the slot. Smith, the son of former NFL great Emmitt Smith, trains with Margin Hooks, who worked with Texas-ex Lil'Jordan Humphrey.  Texas has also hosted recruits similar in size and playing style to Cooper like The Colony’s Myles Price and Cedar Hill’s Quin Bright. Both could get closer looks this spring. Overall, Cooper’s decommitment is a blow for now. But Tom Herman and his staff always seem to weather the storm.
