He's actually an unquantifiable tweener. He was only listed as a 3 star because he's too big and slow for a traditional safety, and too light and fast for a traditional linebacker, which plants him squarely in the category of guys who can absolute fuck shit up in Orlando's defensive scheme. Losing him to Auburn is not the end of the world, but it's not "no big deal" either, because he's exactly the kind of player we need to be getting long-term. Is he replaceable? Yes, more than likely. But it would have been better to have gotten him than not.

Yup. This seems like a recruitment that won't be over until he signs (assuming everything is above board).

Yeah, Overshown has 3 years of eligibility remaining. Per texassports. com -- "A second-year defensive back who has played in nine career games ...  and had one tackle."

Still hard to believe Overshown played in 9 games last season and only had 1 tackle...

Bama started a freshman at corner and a sophomore at safety in the championship game.  Clemson had a sophomore at corner.  You can win with young dbs if they're talented.

I feel good about the corners for two reasons

1. 7 of our 9 conference opponents are breaking in a new coordinator, quarterback or both.

2. Jalen Green looked dominant in the spring game, is reportedly ahead of everyone else in practice, and Anthony Cook wasn't really a drop off from Davis when he played last year.

I think Oklahoma State could torch us because Tylan Wallace is a beast and them having a new qb isn't necessarily a bad thing for them. OU will have a good offense but it might be more ground oriented. Iowa State lost their best skill players but brings back a solid qb. Baylor is meh.

I can see the defense having 3 or 4 games where they give up 30+ but this offense should be able to match that.

Schools want to see his senior tape. The junior tape is apparently very unflattering, outside of a few flashy highlight plays.

Today is the first day for most Texas HS football practices. Recruiting will go on as normal for the UT staff behind the scenes but you might not see as much activity as all parties prepare for their respective upcoming seasons.

Ja ha ha ha hari Rogers and Chris Thompson:

Jahari Rogers (Arlington CB) and Chris Thompson (Duncanville DB) were both bad beats for Texas, but neither are definite losses at this point according to a couple of sources. The frustrating thing is both (Rogers and Thompson) made commitment videos for the Longhorns in early June. Coaches were aware, and Thompson even told some people it was UT the night before he committed to Auburn.

With Rogers, he was negative recruited by Florida coaches who said Jason Washington doesn't develop talent. Florida was even aided by another school in this endeavor. The funny thing is, Holton Hill and Kris Boyd aren't Washington's fault -- I mean we know those two better than anyone -- but those two were used as examples. Rogers had the Texas commitment video sitting there for a month and never pulled the trigger.

With Thompson, he was a lean for a very long time. Like with Rogers, he didn't like being viewed as such. This class is kind of funny (embarrassing) that way. He wanted Texas, his dad wanted Auburn, and a day after he had a video made explaining the importance of education, he picked a farming school over the one that recently won a recruit because of its aerospace engineering program.

Last week we began to hear rumblings of Auburn becoming a bigger threat. We initially filed them away because we thought he was trying to drum up interest after being viewed as a lock. But this came from credible sources and when that info started to pop up on the Auburn side we started to talk a little more openly about it. When we heard he was going to re-shoot parts of his video obviously that made us curious but Texas was still being told it was in a good spot.

Odd recruitment.

DBU Recruiting:

Where does Texas go from here? Right back to the grindstone. With Bijan Robinson committed they're going to work even harder on Lathan Ransom. UT has a better chance of flipping him than Ohio State has of flipping Robinson. Remember, while I had Robinson at 85% I had Ransom at a still high 70%. We think there's a good chance he visits for Texas-LSU and of the guys they'd like to flip they might have the best chance for Ransom.

Texas is also pushing for Xavion Alford, Jerrin Thompson, and Bryson Washington.

If Jerrin Thompson joins the club - he’s looking at announcing his decision soon, maybe this week - that’s your nickel take. UT wants a total of three safeties in the class. Ransom is special and can play any position, Alford would be a field safety. Alford depends on if Alabama will take him. Some on the Bama side think they will, Texas and many of us are skeptical.

“It was a great visit and experience,” Jerrin Thompson told IT, of this UOV last Monday. “I got a lot of questions answered and think I could fit here. It’s an amazing school and program. These dudes are real about winning.”

As far as corner goes, Rogers is a possibility to flip. Ethan Pouncey may visit twice between now and December. They're still looking at Ryan Watts. Josh Eaton is still an option but like we've been mentioning since the spring, the longer that plays out the better for Texas. Let's see some senior game tape, we know the raw athletic traits are there.

— Texas wants Ty Jordan to join Bijan Robinson and he's looking more likely in the class than at any other point. UT has really picked up the pursuit. Jordan gives off the impression he's not in a hurry but we're not ruling out a surprise, out-of-nowhere commitment either.

— UT enters 2019 fall practice with 12 commits, with potential for a couple more (Jerrin Thompson, Alfred Collins) before La Tech on August 31st. Collins is telling everyone he's going to wait but that doesn't align with everything we've heard behind the scenes. We'll see.

Let’s say they take 22-23, that’s roughly 10-11 more spots for the 2020 class. The way 2019 plays out will have a direct effect on those final members of #cloUT2020. UT-LSU looms large. Unlike last year when the Sugar Bowl was too late to help recruiting, if they beat LSU in September it will cement the Horns as being back in the national conversation.

UT had an exciting summer and entered camp with more recruiting buzz. They should thank the Class of 2021, who might be done before the Red River Shootout (sarcasm font).

Fucking Florida. They've been trying to steal the #DBU moniker for the longest time. Holding Hill and Boyd against Jason Washington is bullshit.

Sounds like there will be zero movement on the db front for a while after jerrin Thompson, as we hope to use a good season to work on 3 flip candidates and wait on bama to decide on Alford, which I’m sure they are in no hurry to do.

Hill started some games for Minnesota didn’t he?  And Boyd was just named all conference.

Boyd was a top 100 recruit who snuck into the 7th round while Holton Hill didn't get drafted (for reasons that had nothing to do with his talent or performance on the field).

It's unfair that these situations are getting held against us but obviously it's getting through to the recruits to some extent.

Rivals: Will four-star Quentin Johnston pick Texas?

THE STORYLINE

Quentin Johnston is one of the more intriguing prospects in the Rivals100 because unlike many others, the four-star receiver from Temple, Texas, really does not talk much about his recruitment or elaborate on his favorites.Texas is believed to be the front-runner for the fifth-best recruit in the state and the No. 61 player overall because he lives close to the campus, he has some teammates already there and the Longhorns’ need for outside receivers could be appealing.

But many other programs are pursuing Johnston because he has that rare combination of size and speed and although many other receivers are discussed far more often, it could be Johnston who emerges as one of the best in the class. Oklahoma is making a run at the Temple standout and the Sooners have had no problems recruiting elite receivers recently. Baylor, TCU and others remain solidly in the mix. When it’s all said and done, will Johnston pick Texas or will the four-star receiver make a surprise move and end up elsewhere?

FIRST TAKE: SAM SPIEGELMAN, TEXAS & LOUISIANA ANALYST

“Johnson is an interesting kid, especially because he’s a Rivals100 talent but you’d never be able to tell that from looking at his Twitter or speaking to him in person. His tape is impressive, but watching him up-close is a whole different ballgame. He’s long with track speed — and he hasn’t even tapped his potential yet. Johnston is 6-foot-5 and runs like a gazelle. He can stretch the field vertically and he’s so big that he’s a huge target to pluck the ball in mid-air and dominate balls in traffic. More impressive is his ability to turn short grabs and turn them into huge gains because he’s so physical after the catch. It’s safe to label Texas as the team to beat for Johnston. He lives only a few minutes outside of Austin in Temple, which is the alma mater of a pair of Longhorns in DL Ta’Quon Graham and TE Jared Wiley. He’s visited a ton over the past year and I could see him commit as early as today and if not, sometime before his senior campaign starts or not too far after. Oklahoma, Baylor and TCU are some of the other schools that are also recruiting Johnston hard, but he’s atop Texas’ board and there’s an unrivaled comfort level there.”

SECOND TAKE: MIKE FARRELL, NATIONAL RECRUITING DIRECTOR

“I think Tom Herman keeps Johnston. Momentum at Texas is as strong as it’s been in a long time and it’s going to be really difficult for teams to pull kids that they really want out of there. Let’s face it: Oklahoma got three five-star receivers last year, so they’re going to be up against it when it comes to questions about depth and all that other stuff. If you’re looking at those two offenses, Oklahoma is the more attractive one but I think he ends up at Texas.”

I still think the biggest factor was the depth chart

Farrell can go fuck himself with a rusty pair of scissors.

Even when predicting Texas for a recruit, he’s too enticed by the next bag of dicks waiting in his mailbox to not take a dig at UT while promoting OU.
