April 2, 20187 yr I wish I remembered who started it, but back at Kevin's Folly there was a post asking for recommendations for movie night for older kids/teenagers. It generated some good ideas (as well as some horribad ones, of course) and sounded like a cool thing to do as mine get older, so I put some of them on a list to keep around. The point was primarily to entertain them as a group, and to mix in some classic and essential films that they might not seek out on their own. And also to warp their minds and scar them emotionally. Anyway, I thought it was worth resurrecting and adding on to, so here's what I had: Classics Giant Casablanca Treasure of the Sierra Madre Inherit the Wind Grapes of Wrath To Kill a Mockingbird Cat on a Hot Tin Roof Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf Catch 22 Citizen Kane Gone with the Wind Comedy Groundhog Day Caddyshack Can't Buy Me Love Ferris Bueller's Day Off Young Frankenstein Dr. Strangelove Airplane! April 2, 20187 yr Comedy: Caveman The Gods Must Be crazy Quote ... and essential films that they might not seek out on their own I wouldn't call it essential, but it fascinated me as a teen. Different style of movie from anything I'd ever seen before: Koyaanisqatsi- Life out of Balance Edited April 2, 20187 yr by bernorange
April 2, 20187 yr So many options and opinions on this but here's a few that I want to share with my kids someday that aren't on your current list: Saving Private Ryan Ghostbusters (1984) Godfather 1 and 2 Fast times at Ridgemont High Supertroopers Man on Wire (documentary)
April 2, 20187 yr Author Yeah, there were a lot of good movies on the OG thread I didn't save since my boys had seen them. Didn't plan on Kevin. Mine really liked Man on Wire, which kind of surprised me. They also loved Jiro Dreams of Sushi.
