April 2, 20187 yr What are y'all up to? I'm putting together a small workshop in my utility room, which was the only place we had with some space that I could secure from the wife. I'm looking for a 10" bandsaw, which is the largest that will fit, and there's a cheap craftsman near me on craiglist with 4 5/8" depth. Is that enough depth to do some shit? I was looking at the Wen 10", which has 6" depth, but is more expensive. Will I regret not paying more for the extra depth?
April 2, 20187 yr Your wife has managed just fine without any extra depth for years. I'm sure you'll manage just fine as well.
April 2, 20187 yr Author I've already spent enough of my life wishing for an extra inch and a half. I don't want to be wishing for another inch and a half on my power tools, too. Edited April 2, 20187 yr by Mojo Hand
April 2, 20187 yr I've been wanting to build out our closet but am not sure I can recoup the cost of doing so. Might just do a little here and there
April 2, 20187 yr Thinking of doing a full bathroom renovation. Looks like if I do it myself I can do it for close to 1/2 what I have gotten from estimates. The wife isn't excited about that prospect as it took me close to a year to do the addition I did on the back of our house. I think if I put my head down and focus on it, I could have it done in a month. Master bath, replace floors, new counters, new/larger walk in shower, refinish claw foot tub. Probably redo some of the electrical to replace/add lights. I have been busy at work and ranch but it is about time to get this damned thing fixed up.

April 2, 20187 yr Coincidently that is the reaction I got from my wife when I told her I would do it. Challenge accepted!
April 3, 20187 yr Got the chicken coop framed up Saturday of Easter Weekend. All cedar framing. 1/2" hardware cloth with 2x2 cedar stops going on next weekend. Need to enclose the laying area and put on the metal roof. Lots of details remain, but off to a good start.
April 3, 20187 yr Did you sink your posts in concrete? How are you ensuring the building stays level?
April 3, 20187 yr All of my chicken coops have been ramshackle falling apart pieces of crap construction. I tell people it’s part of the asthetic I’m going forSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

April 3, 20187 yr I need to paint the cabinets and trim in the kids’ bathroom. Someone thought almost yellow would be a good idea. Wife hates it. She’s leaving town on Thursday and coming home Friday. Debating whether or not I can get it done while she’s gone.
April 3, 20187 yr 9 hours ago, gsoda3 said: Did you sink your posts in concrete? How are you ensuring the building stays level? I did, but not much. TON of rock about 12" below grade there. I dug until I hit rock and said "fuck it". Maybe half a sack per hole at most. I really should have poured a grade beam around the perimeter, but I had just enough slope to make that a pain in the ass. I'm just going to set some 2x6s vertically at grade and hope a fox doesn't burrow under there.
April 5, 20187 yr Delivered the War Eagle piece today. Next up recreating a custom version of the maritime logo.
April 5, 20187 yr Home Depot spring Black Friday has decent deals. Got the ryobi 15 amp 10" sliding miter for $130
April 5, 20187 yr Author Saw that on slickdeals, good deal. I just picked up the Craftsman band saw, got the guy down to $100 and it looks like it was hardly used. Next up, I want me a lathe.
April 6, 20187 yr I found an older craftsman bandsaw on Facebook for $60 close to work. Be damned if it didn’t get sold before I could check on it.
April 11, 20187 yr Just taught myself (using the interwebs) to troubleshoot and replace a heating element in my water heater. I've never fucked with one before so this was a learning experience. No hot water one morning lead me to purchase a continuity tester, lower element was dead. In the process of replacing the element, learned you needed a special wrench which required hella leverage. Then realized that all the sediment, hard water deposits was blocking the drain valve and l thought all of water drained.....I received a nice surprise when I removed the heating element, water shot out like porn star squirt session. Luckily it wasn't piss. To make a long story short I got the bitch replaced and have hot water again. The W.H. is about 15yrs old, so I might be back with a installing adventure.
April 12, 20187 yr i need someone in collin county to build a shelf for me and stain it. any referrals? or any surly cabinetry types up in here?
April 12, 20187 yr I put up three new fence boards over the weekend. Pretty proud of the job. That’s about the extent of my skills.
April 12, 20187 yr Just a shelf? You don't want to try it yourself? I’m assuming he wants it to look decent. His husband might be busy.
April 12, 20187 yr i lack an awesome set of tools i also work in IT (strictly from commercial) so i earn my living with my voice and 10 fingers intact. no saws, hammers or nails, at all.

April 13, 20187 yr I get the fingers comment, but what is the risk to your voice?Deep throating whoever builds the shelf.

If simply hammering a nail is a danger to your fingers, you’re probably right to never use any tool ever. Also, who uses nails on a shelf? Do you even sliding dovetail, bro? (Clearly, no)
April 13, 20187 yr Off of CL, needs a belt and tension knob, but in good shape. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk
April 13, 20187 yr 10", I looked around and was never happy with what I found, dont have a Sears near me, just happened this guy thought his bandsaw was taking up too much room in his shop. $80 and I'm home. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk
April 13, 20187 yr Author Same one as the one I just got for $100, then. I gotta build a stand though.
April 13, 20187 yr Mine came with the homemade stand, you can also buy a cheap stand if you dont want to build one, customize it the way youd like it to beSent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

April 20, 20187 yr Thanks! The larger pieces were all cut using a handheld Dewalt jigsaw. The letters were cut on a Craftsman scroll saw.
April 21, 20187 yr Nicely played. You're up soon. Let's meet over some beers at Great Heights to finalize design ideas.
April 21, 20187 yr Ha. I was trying to find a good patiently waiting gif. I'm in Dallas so that would be a long drive for me. Though that will be an excellent place to meet when you're done with the piece. Edited April 21, 20187 yr by mdmost
April 22, 20187 yr Beginner trying to get into some woodworking here. I've decided to make my first "big" project a desk for the wife. I have a design and plan in mind and am shopping out the supplies. First question, what is "common board" that you see in the specialty woods section of big box stores? Also, what wood would you consider in making a (this) desk? [Imgur](https://i.imgur.com/eLgzPTd.jpg) https://imgur.com/eLgzPTd Edit -- I have no idea how to do imgur on this thing.
