I get it, obviously, but an OL shakeup after game one against Rice.... yikes.

Sounds like it's more injury related.  Performance is more equally crummy. jmo.

Bobby Burton   I’m a Cam Williams fan. Daniel Jeremiah, ESPN NFL draft analyst, talked about Williams yesterday. It’s nice, yet unsurprising, that Williams is starting to turn head

just watch the guards on the 3rd play, then throw up and try to watch anymore

If you watch some of the pass plays the issue is pretty obvious. So many times you will see an interior OL get perpendicular to the LOS in pass pro, while looking for work. It’s really bad. They pass a guy off, but turn with him. Easiest example to find is the Banks “sack”. I think Banks is turning him loose to Conner, but he is facing the other sideline with his back to Banks, so he can’t see him

Might be that DJ can't go on Saturday since he was in a boot...

Offensive Line

As an aside, Rice’s #55 De’Braylon Carroll is a 5-11, 285 pound baller and they had a few guys up front who were relatively capable and played hard.

Hey Rice fan here (and UT fan, too).  Yes, De'Braylon Carroll is a very good player.  He's a redshirt junior and his senior year of high school he was the district defensive MVP - playing for Duncanville.  State title runner up to North Shore that year.  Probably of little solace to the fanbase, but thought I'd echo Scipio's comment.

Here is an example. Connor is not engaged with a pass rusher and completely ignoring anything to his left (or in this case behind him). Texas gives up the sack to a 3 man rush vs Rice.

Gotta stay square and keep your head on a swivel.

Sark said in his presser the OL issues were due to communication and can be fixed. OK. The conclusion is pretty obvious. If you don't fix it then you suck as a coach and need to have your ass fired.

#3508
Texas OT Christian Jones has a four-game streak with no blown blocks, dating back to late last season. That is the longest active streak without a blown block of any Big 12 starting OL.

#3509

There were definitely communication breakdowns but I think what Sark said in the press conference was also true. Just too much hesitancy and overthinking things. Find a body and hit them.

Great teams assert their dominance to finish and pull away in games.

Brooks hits paydirt. Texas up double digits. Battle in Tuscaloosa.

#3513

I was not impressed by how the Oline played against Rice but they cleaned a lot of that up and did a great job today.

Sweet!

#3516

It was a good gameplan. We didn’t ask the OL to hold up between the tackles often. They cleaned up the pass pro issues. All you could ask for and they helped ice the game on that final drive.

Campbell was so pumped that he knocked the shit out of Mitchell.

Flood earned his money this week.

No fucking sacks. I’m stunned.

This is why Flood is easily a Top 5 OL coach in the country. He took the game film from Rice and had these guys communicating perfectly throughout the game.

Did Dallas Turner make a play all night?

And Conner had the smartest play of the game, squeezing his hand to draw Bama offside late. Absolutely a genius play.

what did he do?

On the 3rd or 4th down play late in the game on which we drew Bama offside, Conner started his set with his right hand sitting on his knee, open. But before the snap, he snapped his hand shut before and drew the DL across from him offside.

Look at DJ here.  Blocking two.  He didn't come to Tuscaloosa to fuck around. What a bounce back.

Can we two about DJ Campbell mauling on the second level. https://t.co/AiEMQFUrmc

No sacks allowed tonight. Running game wasn't particularly strong but there weren't a ton of negative plays either, and of course icing the game with a 7 minute drive is a statement. Will have to rewatch at some point to get a better sense for individual performances but the OL was a plus unit today.

Run game was strong when it needed to be, the 4th quarter.

This is what Sark talked about last week. They were too hesitant against Rice. Find a body (or in this case 2 bodies) and hit the fuck out of them.

It was stronger with Brooks in the game. Baxter is going to be good but Brooks looked ready for the physicality of this game.

Baxter was stopped for a loss on 5/11 carries and Brooks 0/14. Brooks put his shoulder down knowing this was going to be big boy football between the tackles.

Quinn clapped too and all night they used that as their snap signal

Yeah I’m pretty sure it was a drawn-up play. Sark reacted like he was thinking “it worked!” So great.

#3533

Crow-eater here. The OL turned in a sack-free, almost pressure-free performance. Bama DL is one of the  best there is, and we won't see their like again this season - until we get to the playoffs...

#3534

OL was good.  fought Bama DL to a stalemate and gave Quinn some good pockets, which he finally stepped into.  well done Flood and crew.

#3537

That's right on the edge of ineligible downfield, Big 12 refs would have reviewed it from every angle and rounded up to fuck us over.

It looked to me like Hutson played the vast majority of the second half at RG. Campbell was in at the end though, I think. I was very drunk.

Campbell was in on that JBrooks TD in the 4th. Hutson was in for the last 7min drive.

DJ Campbell had an awesome night, this single play is a great example of that. Great job up front from ALL of our big n heavy dudes.

He would have whiffed on that last week. What a great job of passing off DL slanting to pick up the twist.

I think he's a few more games away from putting it all together.

I also don't mind him splitting reps with Hutson. That kid can play too and you are going to need 7 or 8 OL for the season.

Once Campbell is a little more comfortable I'd like to see a Banks - Hutson - Majors - Campbell - Jones lineup.
