Weird, I was just watching Isbell on Nora Jones's youtube channel and he has a half full mug of what appears to be beer. Could be near beer of course but it was a startling image.

I watched that.  He referred to Shires as "the woman I was married to"

I feel like we need a new thread for this new country shoegaze y’allternative thing but for now, haven’t listened at all but a whole new album just dropped from “Snocaps”, which is like… Katie Waxahatchee and her sister and also MJ Lendermann?

Ah, also Brad Cook, the guy from His Golden Messenger

Just gave the whole album a listen and I am enthused. Maybe a little more indie rock than Waxahatchee's last couple albums, but that alt country direction she's gone in definitely shines through.

This album is fantastic.

Granted, I’ve loved everything Katie’s touched in the past 5 years, and I’m turning into a Jake fanboy to boot.

Isn't that pretty much Waxahatchee's lineup these days anyway?

Yup.  Lenderman and Cook both played on every track of Tiger’s Blood

This just goes to further my plan (… fustian bargain?) to learn steel guitar and go back to being a touring musician after hoarding a few mil. Pedal steel guy can look like whatever.

Down to give AMCU a try and see if it sticks.

I've definitely had the experience of being drunk at concerts and being inspired to learn pedal steel. Apparently it's quite hard? Oh well, maybe next year.

Brandi Carlile has apparently decided to channel U2.  Not bad, definitely a shift:

Last time I saw him in Atlanta, 2018 or 2019, he was fucked up on something.  Really shitty show.

I saw him in St Paul in 2019 and it was very good.  I don’t think I’d roll the dice again at this point.

Oh I had seen a story about him being assaulted and badly injured, cancelling the tour. Kicked out of the hospital and arrested, guessing this behavior and getting assaulted outside a hotel might be..IMG_7083.gif.4a6d19611cea04604f7774c728d639d1.gif

I was really digging this little chord riff I was coming up with the other night and then I realized it was just King of Oklahoma

^^^^

I heard an interview with him saying him and a buddy wrote that as a submission for the new Lone Ranger movie coming out back in 2012.  Said they submitted and never heard a peep after and dusted it off a couple of years ago and said it was too good to never to see the light of day.  Seems like a miss by the music director on that one.

The girl is Duff McKagan’s daughter Mae. Seems fitting as the video looks like someone threw Wild at Heart, No Country for Old Men, and November Rain in a blender.

I was picking this one out on guitar, sounded easy enough. Didn't expect he would be using a capo.

Is that capo'ed to C#m?  I haven't tried to figure it out yet.

A couple of thoughts:

1.  Stapleton gets insanely great guitar tones, and it's nothing complicated.  Great hands, great guitars, great amps.

2.  I want that Firebird bass.

It’s so funny hearing a song that’s great and every time, picking up the guitar and finding that it’s the same thing as every other song. He does some quicker changes in there than I was getting and I’m pretty sure the chord I was missing is Am (relative to the capo) but yeah man it’s just g c f d and all those little hammer ons and pull offs

Took me a second to find MJ. This is like Gen Z Breeders.

This is the first time I’ve heard Snocaps. Sans the male vocals, I’m picking up on a  lemonheads / matthew sweet sound. And their tune Avalanche channels the la’s “there she goes”. I dig ‘em.

Snocaps is basically Waxahatchee's current line up + her sister.

If you enjoy it, check out the Waxahatchee albums as well as MJ Lenderman (dude playing drums in the clip) and Wednesday.  All part of a big sprawling connected universe/scene that's making some of the best albums of the post COVID era.

Pretty sure the Crutchfield sisters are straight up Millenials.  Lenderman is Gen Z.

yeah for sure. it's funny, I think my first introduction to MJ was as a guest vocal on that Waxahatchee "Right Back To It" song (apart from JimmyJazz mentioning Wednesday in this thread, but I didn't make the connection), but at this point I feel like everything touched by that group of people is part of the extended Wednesday universe, which is Gen Z coded to me. But Waxa is millennial. This video actually put so much context onto her for me -

also was feeling bad for the Wednesday mcu derail again but they are an extension of this whole musical tree

A big part of his sound on that one is the Gretsch Supertron pickups, which are pretty rare.

I feel like Wednesday et al are Gen Z on paper but probably have more in common with Millenial stereotypes.  They seem to like drugs, fucking, and hell raising more than the rest of their cohort.  Much like how us old Millenials (I believe you're a fellow Xennial) were infused with a healthy does of Gen X preferences and outlooks.

I was listening to 69 Love Songs and thinking about how badly this needed an Americana or Yallternative cover -
