April 16, 20205 yr Steve Wiltfong: USC is fun again on the recruiting trail Quote It’s been awhile, nearly two years in fact, but USC football recruiting is back in a spot in the 247Sports standings we had grown accustomed to seeing. On Wednesday, four-star athlete Anthony Beavers became commit No. 7 for head coach Clay Helton and his staff in this 2021 cycle, bumping this crop to date to No. 8 in the 247Sports Composite Team Rankings while maintaining the No. 1 spot in the Pac 12. It’s well documented by now that USC’s No. 55 finish a year ago was by far the worst for the program in 247Sports history, never mind the fact that it was always going to be a smaller haul because of lack of scholarships available. The area’s best prospects were flocking elsewhere with hardly any buzz out there for the tradition-rich program. Even seeing the Trojans at No. 19 the year before that was odd on the heels of five-straight Top10 classes including three that finished in the top five. It’s certainly hard to recruit when the head coach’s name is routinely in the news as being on the hot seat, but for the first time in awhile that has also seemed to have subsided on the trail. There's a new athletic director in Mike Bohn who wants this regime to succeed, and from there Helton has injected some high-energy recruiters to his coaching staff (Donte' Williams, Craig Naivar, Todd Orlando and Vic So'oto) and now we’re seeing a resuscitation on the trail. Beavers was the second commitment this month joining fellow four-star defensive back Xamarion Gordon, and it seems the momentum is just getting started here in this 2021 class. In the near future, at least two more commitments appear to be in the works as the Trojans continue to trend on the 247Sports Crystal Ball for Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco offensive lineman Maximus Gibbs and Pasadena (Calif.) John Muir Top247 defensive back Calen Bullock. With that, if nothing changes with the programs in front of USC, the Trojans could rise into the top five of the 247Sports Team Recruiting Rankings by the end of the weekend. Beyond those two, Dallas (Texas) Skyline four-star receiver Quaydarius Davis is definitely a USC lean and could pop at any time. The Trojans now have a pulse on the 247Sports Crystal Ball regarding the No. 3 inside linebacker in the land in Ethan Calvert. Four-star athlete Jaylin Smith is another Helton and company are considered the overwhelming favorite for. Can they land a second touted quarterback in Miller Moss? They’ll keep trying to chop wood regarding five-star defensive linemen Korey Foreman and J.T. Tuimoloau among others too. One thing is for sure, USC football recruiting is fun to follow again too. Â

April 19, 20205 yr UTSA gets a commitment from Sharyland Pioneer QB Eddie Lee Marburger. Solid pickup for the Roadrunners, as many believe Marburger to be the best QB prospect in valley history. Yes the competition was weak but still 5500 total yards and 75 total TD's last year are eye popping numbers. He also torched Boerne Champion in that 3rd round OT playoff loss last year fwiw.Â

That’s absurd levels of stupid. I guess it’s gotta be something to do with moving that far away?

Don’t know what they’ve been putting in the water in the Mission area lately. AJ Gonzaque is a guy that could go D1 as a receiver, he’s about to be a senior. Jeremy Duran is more of D2 or D3 prospect but he’s another QB out there to watch  for the next couple years.Â

Same thing that happened with Flowe last cycle.. Going opposite coast is a tough tough pill to swallow as NSD approaches. As this CV breakout is going on, you really don't want to leave your family behind in case anything bad pops up.
