June 24Jun 24 Surely it's a voter-base play from Abbott - maybe a lobbying cash-infusion on top of that. I wouldn't think this by itself would be enough to get a dem elected but a lot of conservatives (or anyone that would vote for Abbott) under 30 or 35 or whatever the number is probably aren't down with that proposed ban.

Even if alcohol sales took any kind of hit from weed legalization it would be so small it would be unnoticable... because guess what, drinkers gonna drink and smokers gonna smoke regardless of the law.

Gen Z is drinking a lot less than everyone else did, for starters. 6 minutes ago, Brian Fantana said: The lobbying cash-infusion is almost certainly the reason this bill was presented in the first place, just from the alcohol side. Sure, and THC manufacturers probably scraped some cash together to fight back.

The alcohol lobby believes in states with legal use, sales have been impacted significantly, especially among those under 35. The amount they spent in lobbying is nothing compared to a 15-20% decrease in sales.

This must be a joke. You have people like Slorch who hate this ban and hate the 10 commandments thing who will be there on early voting day 1 to vote for Abbott and Patrick.

June 24Jun 24 The biggest problem I see is they want in-state testing of products. That’s where more good grift is, dude.

I could see it taking a tiny hit, but not anywhere close to 15-20%. Don't worry, Texas alcohol lobby. I'll do my part. Edited June 24Jun 24 by NorthLoop

June 24Jun 24 “It sort of puzzles me why my friend Governor Abbott would at the last minute—22 minutes after 11—decide to veto this bill,” Patrick said. “One can only come to this conclusion, which surprises me. The Governor of the state of Texas wants to legalize recreational marijuana in Texas. That’s the headline folks.”

You know, gaming and sports betting and that—look, that’s a person’s choice… but this is life and death. This is life and death. This destroys lives. This reaches a whole other level.” I would most likely be dead if delta-8 hadn't been legal when I lived in Texas:

Literally the dumbest question I've ever heard and I taught at SWT for 25 years... This place is honestly so perfect that I sometimes feel like I've somehow been cast as the main character in a remake of The Truman Show.

The old Fine Arts Theater on the square in Denton used to always do a midnight show on Saturdays. It was usually Reefer Madness and then Rocky Horror or Song Remains The Same. I may have snuck out of the house several times in junior high to attend. TIL that they made a remake 20 years ago:
