April 3, 20187 yr Finally got around to watching Once Upon a Time in the West. Out-Fucking-Standing. Sergio Leone is boss. Love Fist Full of Dollars, Few Dollars More, GB&U. Good shit. Good Great westerns?
April 3, 20187 yr Unforgiven "Yeah well, a lot of folks did call him 'Two-Gun' but that wasn't because he was sporting two pistols. That was because he had a dick that was so big it was longer than the barrel of that Walker Colt that he carried. And the only "insultin' to a lady" he ever did was to stick that thing of his into this French lady that Bob here was kind of sweet on."
April 3, 20187 yr Ride the High Country. Written (uncredited) and directed by Sam Peckinpah. Starring Joel McCrea and Randolph Scott. A man ought to enter his house justified.
April 3, 20187 yr You gonna pull them pistols or whistle Dixie? Nothing obscure or too cool for the room here. I like The Outlaw Josey Wales
April 3, 20187 yr jeremiah johnson dances with wolves little big man buffalo bill and the indians giant life and times of judge roy bean butch cassidy and the sundance kid

April 3, 20187 yr And now you understand. Anything goes wrong, anything at all... your fault, my fault, nobody's fault... it won't matter - I'm gonna blow your head off. No matter what else happens, no matter who gets killed I'm gonna blow your head off.

April 3, 20187 yr Unforgiven is a truly great movie regardless of genre. I have always thought The Sons of Katie Elder was a very underrated movie.

April 3, 20187 yr Since some of my favorites have already been listed, I'll add: True Grit (both) Rio Bravo Appaloosa Sons of Katie Elder (I was typing this as the previous two posts were being made. Great movie.) Edited April 3, 20187 yr by lateshow
April 3, 20187 yr And this might be blasphemy to some but I think John Elder was Wayne's best role. Of course it was the standard John Wayne playing John Wayne.
April 3, 20187 yr The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly If miniseries count, then of course you have to include Lonesome Dove.
April 3, 20187 yr Hidalgo, while not a traditional shoot 'em up Cowboy movie; I have always been partial to this film as I would watch while visiting with my mom in Oklahoma before she passed...
April 3, 20187 yr Um, Young Guns and Young Guns II. Unforgiven is one of my all-time favorite movies, period.
April 3, 20187 yr Would you consider "Giant" a western? I'm never sure it qualifies, mainly because it's set in the 20th century and the only shooting that takes place is when Bic shoots a rattlesnake. I always categorized it as "Texas Epic"...a classification all its own.
April 3, 20187 yr Tombstone The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly The Magnificent Seven (original one) Pale Rider A Fistful of Dollars
April 4, 20187 yr Da hell, gentlemen? No Audie Murphy movies? The Texican w/ Broderick Crawford and Ride a Crooked Trail. I'll add Seven Men from Now and Coroner Creek both with Randolph Scott. And you can't take great westerns without mentioning Fort Apache(Fonda/Wayne) and She Wore a Yellow Ribbon.
April 4, 20187 yr John Wayne's The Cowboys. "I regret trifling with married women. I'm thoroughly ashamed at cheating at cards. I deplore my occasional departures from the truth. Forgive me for taking your name in vain, my Saturday drunkenness, my Sunday sloth. Above all, forgive me for the men I've killed in anger....................................................and those I am about to."

April 5, 20187 yr The Assination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. Also, El Dorado, mainly because I used to watch it with my grandad when I was younger.
April 5, 20187 yr Yeah it’s gonna pretty unsettling watching each Howard being with the others woman but I’m definitely looking forward to it. JK Simmons amazes me, first time I remember seeing him was in OZ and that performance was unsettling to say the least.
April 5, 20187 yr Just because it hasn't been mentioned yet, The Man From Laramie, The Naked Spur, and all the James Stewart westerns directed by Anthony Mann.
April 5, 20187 yr Comedic westerns are underrated. Scalphunters is a stop down for me. Evil Roy Slade Yeah, I get the gritty hard bit ones too. The Professionals is one that hasn't been mentioned so far. But the drunken gunfighter won Lee Marvin an Oscar.
April 5, 20187 yr I am such a big fan of Eastwood's westerns. A handful of fantastic ones I didn't see mentioned yet: Two Mules for Sister Sara Hang 'Em High Joe Kidd High Plains Drifter (my personnel favorite) Pale Rider

The professionals was also greatness. Edited April 5, 20187 yr by Duckman formatting with pics
April 6, 20187 yr Wild Bunch was amazing. When you look at how bloody it was, making it was extremely risky for some in that cast, especially given where some of those guys were at in their careers.
