September 10Sep 10 Honda Civic beater with 250K miles on it leaks a tiny bit of oil. I don't even care, but I don't like oil spots on the driveway. Easy solution- piece of cardboard on the driveway under the engine to soak up the oil. This morning the cardboard was gone. Wife threw it away. Its my fault because I didn't "tell her" to not throw away something that I deliberately put down with flat rocks so it wouldn't blow away.
September 10Sep 10 Three things can all be right at the same time. Also a fourth thing that’s right - she should put a new cardboard piece down since she trashed the old one without asking but zero chance that will happen. But you’d be a complete dick for not doing it if the situation was reversed.

Your kids should have some semblance of a clue about their own family - you don't have to lay out your family's finances, bills, etc. with your kids, but they should understood their family is privileged. Like, yes, your grandparents are well off/wealthy. A good lesson in how to make a fortune for yourself, depending on how they did it. And another lesson in "just because they're rich doesn't mean you will be rich off of them one day" Your wife's argument makes more sense if your kids start asking about finances of non-family members. She just seems insecure about it.

One of the reasons my wife is dogshit with her $, saving, and keeping a personal budget (at work? She’s run a successful business so WTF?) is that she never did talk about money growing up. But also my in-laws have always used their means as a way to control their kids and family. Not talking about $ was more about control than committing some faux pas / avoiding being gouache. /Rant

We buy used cars which we drive until the cost to repair ratio isn't worth it so have done this with our cars for years, except it's in the garage. I like it because other than the ac condensation that drips down, it's a way to spot a potential problem in between regular maintenance before it gets bad. My BIL of over 30+ years went to Harvard Law after UT. Became the General Counsel of a Fortune 100 company and is now currently the CFO. My kids didn’t understand growing up when our vacations were the Emerald Coast of Florida or South Padre, while they were going to Australia, Africa, and etc. Kids just don’t realize income disparities. Still love him as he’s still with my company and most likely the reason I’ve been employed there, after working two decades as a drug rep. My wife left me this Summer after 33 years. He’s been great to me and my family even after the separation. I go to his office a couple times a month just to vent and visit. Hook’em!!!

September 16Sep 16 I've successfully conditioned my spouse into being a misogynist bigot. We drove to the grocery store and spotted the neighbor's car, parked very poorly. I said, "hey look, the [jones] are here too, and they're really hugging the parking line" Her response: "it's probably the wife"
September 18Sep 18 my wife grew up in the bay area and her experience with weather related phenomena is all fucked up as a result. Clouds in the sky? Must be a cold day. Going to rain? Must be a cold day. This morning, after raining overnight in LA for the first time in like 6 months, the sky was dark. Occasional sprinkles. Temp was like 82 degrees and it was as humid as I've ever felt it. As in, nice sticky layer of sweat from just getting into the car. Daughter comes downstairs for school with pants on, heavy rain coat, and rain boots. Wife is wearing a thick turtleneck sweater. Forecast called for .03 inches today. "Uhhh, its gonna be a miserably warm and humid day today." "Is it? Have you looked outside yet?" "Yes. I've also already walked the dog and she's in the corner over there panting" I say, as I wipe sweat from my brow with a kitchen towel.
September 19Sep 19 It kind of sounds like you're bragging that your wife doesn't treat you like a fucking weatherman. "Do I need a coat today? What's the weather supposed to be today? Is it supposed to rain today?". I've told her 1000 times that she has a weather app on her phone, which is apparently glued to her fucking hand, but my words go unnoticed.

On the flip side, nothing sucks more that sitting inside with AC going and it raining outside and you think it's really nice. Then realize you're in Texas and despite the overcast and rain it's still somehow 96 degrees outside...
