9 days until the opener, but nobody really gives a shit anymore.  Thanks Ange!

Oh and the exhibition on Friday against UTSA

All of us here give a shit, of course, but we just know where this is headed.

I’ve pondered a scenario where a capital envelope for NIL and other program needs is offered as a commitment for when a new coach is hired. I don’t think it would take a ton and could largely be crowdfunded. Probably just fantasy though.

Ange’s best result in her 12 years at Texas is the sweet 16. Contrast that with the beach volleyball team who made the elite 8 in the program’s first year of eligibility

I think her best result was winning the SEC tournament last fall, but that’s me being subjective. I enjoyed that shot being fired across the bough right out of the gate.

The SEC preseason poll last year came out right around mid-August (August 13) so we should be coming up on that pretty soon

The United Soccer preseason rankings has Texas 19th.  Based on where other SEC schools are ranked, they predict a top 3 finish for us, but 2-3-4-5 are pretty bunched together.  Arkansas looks like the class of the conference

Arkansas is 6th, Vanderbilt is 17th, MSST is 20th, South Carolina is 21st and Georgia/Auburn/Kentucky are all receiving votes

Texas finished 3rd last year, behind MSST (undefeated in conf play) and Arkansas (1 loss, 1 tie)

At the exhibition game against UTSA.  My daughter played soccer with two of the freshmen playing for the roadrunners.

Wearing burnt orange, but hoping the former teammates pay well.

Are college games moving to three 30 minute periods this season? Sounds like this exhibition was a 3 period game, but I don't know if that format will be what's used in the regular season.

I don’t think so. Was probably just exhibition specific

Yeah, I didn't particularly like the three period system.  Fine for an exhibition with tons of rotation and obviated the need for water breaks which would have been a must with 45 halves.

USTA played pretty well in a 2-0 loss.  One goal came from a penalty in the box.  Neither goal was scored when our family friends were on the pitch and they both played at least 50% of the game.

I'm sure the heavy rotation affected Texas' play, but they did not seem altogether cohesive.  Looking forward to a great season!

They looked like dogshit before SECN cut away. Embarrassing. Kelly should be fired on the field if they lose to NW State tonight.

I had low expectations for Ange this season, but Jesus fucking Christ. I can’t recall this program ever losing to a Southland conference opponent in soccer. First time for everything I guess.

Well, maybe this season is finally when the wheels come off enough to fire AK and get a real coach to run the program.

She just got a new contract last year, yes?

2 years ago. Base salary is around 200 to 220k from what Google says. No way a 600k buyout would save if her if its a bad year right?

I missed this news this summer, but Texas extended soccer coach Angela Kelly through the 2028 season. Kelly guided Texas to a 17-5-2 record and Big 12 tournament title this fall. The Longhorns were beaten in the NCAA's third round by eventual champion Florida State. #HookEm

Northwestern State soccer was 0-47-1 all-time against power conference opponents, until yesterday. https://t.co/QO6MR9wNXj

This reads like losing to Abilene Christian in the tourney.

Send her packing, please.

I get soccer can be a fluky sport at times.  The high school girls team I coached almost beat one of the best teams in the state one year because they shanked like 20 shots.  Score should have been 8-0.  It was 2-1.  In my defense, I had exactly one club player on my team against a team who had 3rd string club players.  That being said, how in the holy hell do you give up 3 goals, at home, to NW State?  They shouldn't have had 3 decent shots, much less goals.

I thought CDC was going to get rid of this trash last year.

We also won the exhibition, 3-0 lol. The last 2 sets didn’t really count, it was a planned 5 set exhibition

Based on the thread it doesnt seem like the soccer team losing is a negative either if it means the coach is fired.  A terrible season that leads to her being fired > keeping a mediocre coach. Shes the worst coach on campus if she hasnt advanced past a Sweet 16 in 12 years as mentioned by perfectchaos.

According to my calendar, it’s very early in the season with a lot more games to be played.  Patience, grasshopper.

How many more years should we give her to get past the Sweet 16?

Well, since we just extended her contract, I’d say she’s at least gonna get this year….so, TBD.

Not that familiar,  team roster below.   If you have time,  send us some photos like you did for baseball.

For the record,  LB beat Hawaii 2-1 and lost an exhibition game to USC 2-0.
