November 24Nov 24 TCU wins it in PKs. They're going to the Elite 8. We'll have to wait on their coach if thats who we're targeting but all signs point to the UCLA coach
November 24Nov 24 We do like poaching UCLA for the chick sports. Also, I never knew CDC’s title was even bought, that’s crazy.

It’s pretty common actually - Duke, Iowa, Ohio State, Creighton, Xavier. Ours was the largest endowment at the time The University of Texas at Austin announces a $10 million endowment from Lois and Richard Folger to create the largest endowment to a named athletics director in the country. The Lois and Richard Folger Athletics Director Endowment will provide perpetual flexible funding for non-salaried strategic use, empowering the athletics director to launch new initiatives and enhance the excellence of Texas Athletics for years to come.

The LA airports have so many direct flights it's not as bad as Oregon has it, but having to go through commercial can be a nightmare. Especially for a soccer team.
November 25Nov 25 I am very emotionally satisfied with this personnel move. I don't have anything against Angela Kelly as a human being, but this was a long time coming. I want to say the Wicked Witch is dead, but that's not fair to Kelly. Her incompetence doesn't make her an evil villain. It's just that we can do so much better, and for so long we haven't.

I think this is an important reminder, sometimes. We get so ate up with finding fault in coaches and players that we way overdo it many or even most times, lately.

But her coaching tenure was already on the downswing when Plonsky “stole” her from Tennessee. And Vols fans were not upset about it at all. It was a bad hire, and she dragged out her tenure with the promise of the big recruiting duos like Byars and Missimo. And we got no big postseason success out of it She’s no more than a Clark or Strong - good person who just couldn’t get it done. She’s not a Tom Herman or Chris Beard. Edited November 25Nov 25 by Js1

November 25Nov 25 Author Have we had any other Asian-American head coaches? Wikipedia says she was the first AAPI coach to win a national title in soccer
November 25Nov 25 The official statement from Texas says she's one of only three currently active Asian American NCAAW soccer coaches. Edited November 25Nov 25 by TheBryMan81
November 25Nov 25 This is the best hire possible. She is young, plays a great style and has deep ties to the SoCal ECNL scene which produces the most talent in the country and second place is not even close. Combined with Texas’ deep ties with Solar, I expect Texas to regularly sign Top 5 classes and compete for national titles. Another absolute home run hire for CDC.

It was in response to JS1s question about whether or not we have ever had an Asian American head coach. Was just trying to point out that it is, apparently, exceptionally rare in NCAAW soccer, at least currently.

Good recruiter and ties Runs a good offense (god please, Kelly runs the most stale, passive shit) I’d say her only knock is outside of year 1, she hasn’t had major postseason success (got majorly upset in 2023 as a 1 seed to UCI in round 1, lost in the second round in 2024 as a 2 seed to 7 VT, lost in the second round in PKs as a 4 seed to 5 BYU) Hopefully she can convince McDonald, Montgomery, Shimkin and Villarreal to stay. No idea what 2026 kids we had coming in and if they stick.

Maybe we needed UCI's Head Coach, jk. not really the amount of time as a HC that we usually see CDC go after but hopefully much better than kelly and the recruiting ties to Cali could be huge.

If she wants to coach again, and I’m sure she does, the worst thing she could have done is quiet quit. CDC ain’t gonna give her much of a recommendation otherwise. Again, she is not a bad person. Obviously a class act the way she handled the obvious end of her tenure and kept recruiting until the bitter end. The anti-Mack Brown. Edited November 28Nov 28 by Js1
