0-0 draw with Iowa.

Probably the best defensive team we will play all year. Have to be more creative in the final 3rd against these type teams that get numbers behind the ball. Can't just play through Missimo and Byars.

Attack was much better in the 2nd half once we started playing Villarreal more on the wing.

The nature of soccer (i.e. tough to score goals) means some weird results but some crazy results already in the SEC.

Just saw Denver beat aggy in college station a few days ago.

0-0 FT. Sucks that we couldn't get a win in Austin against our only ranked non-conference match.

Prefer a win but I don't think a draw will be a bad result.

I don't see Iowa losing many games with the way they defend. They will end up in quite a few draws but they won't give up many goals.

Byars is Texas’ first ever SEC POTW, in any sport

Major trap game in non-conference will be Long Beach State.

They're only 1-2-1 but they ended up in a draw with #4 BYU, only lost by 1 goal to #11 Santa Clara, and the other loss was to #13 UCLA. They are much better than their record indicates.

Trinity Byars just got injured. The video feed cut out because they don’t want to show the injury I guess. Just before the feed cut, a few players around her reacted like they just saw something nasty.

Are we just cursed??

Missimo just scored off a deflection. Thats 2 for her today. Its the Missimo show going forward the rest of the season with no EmJ and Byars.

The unfortunate part of the Byars injury is the fact refs don't do a good enough job protecting her.

The strategy of a lot of teams is to just foul her and prevent her from getting into space. Refs need to give more yellows to prevent players from hacking at the feet/knees of players like Byars.

Iowa just beat #18 Wake Forest 2-0.

That draw is a good result. Extremely tough team to score on and they won't lose many games. Granted, none of this probably matters if Byars is out for the season.

2-1 Texas at half versus SDSU

I wonder if all sports have to provide injury reports when they play a conference opponent. It would force Kelly to actually give an official report on EmJ and Byars

Looks like they're playing Miller (normally a midfielder) in one of those fullback spots with both Lapo and Cox out with injury.

These injuries are insane.

Really like Miller in this fullback spot.

If Lapo returns, they should just put Miller in the other fullback spot moving forward. There's already a log jam on the wing between Miller, Villarreal, and Ward. Figure out how to get all your best players on the field together.

Pretty dodgy.  If they do, we would get a report in less than 2 weeks (SEC opener is September 19 against Alabama)

Only 2 of our SEC opponents are ranked (24 Bama, 6 Georgia -  both at home) with 2 RV (Miss St, Georgia - both on the road).  We miss Auburn (13) and South Carolina (RV),

I don't know if Byars is returning but we look much more dynamic offensively without her. If she does come back, I hope we realize that our offense doesn't have to be "give the ball to Byars and let her make a play."

We are too 1 dimensional, at times, with Byars.

It's why I think we actually looked better in games where we put Byars on the wing and let somebody like Missimo or Villarreal play in the striker role. Just going 1 v 3 up top with Byars is not maximizing this roster's talent.

The broadcasters are right. This Texas team is pretty tough to break down defensively.

We've given up 4 goals on the year but 2 or 3 of those were against SMU when we were playing a bunch of subs.

That Iowa draw is going to be a good result.

Beat Baylor tonight 3-0. They've played 3.5 games against P5 opponents (2 ranked) and haven't given up a goal. They might have the best defense in the country and won't lose many games.

Iowa is a fringe top-10ish team, IMO.

Based on the full length leg brace they just showed on Byars I'd wager she's done for the year.

This was supposed to be her final season as a senior but I wonder if she’s eligible for a redshirt. Sucks to have  your college career ended by injury

Likely, yes. Injury happened in game 5 of an 18 game season.  Less than 30% of the season played before injury (~28%). Not even including postseason play

Rori got it and she was, I believe, just over 30% but NCAA granted it

With no Byars, it looks like they are playing Missimo in the strike role.

The big difference so far with no Byars is it means we've finally realized that we have the best collection of wingers in the country (Ward, Miller, and Villarreal). Those 3 were abusing LBSU all 1st half until we started making subs.

EmJ is probably in the same boat, but I would imagine she’s going to forgo another redshirt and hang it up. 18 months of rehab just to get injured again after 2 games is rough and I imagine after her next rehab she’s not going to want to risk getting injured again.

I've seen some pics of emj cox moving around on IG. Totally guessing, but I don't think her injury is season-ending.

Villarreal is a special player. I think she might be better than both Missimo and Byars.

Different type player than both but she is special on the ball.

Interesting to see how this holds up against better competition but in nearly 4 games we've only given up 1 goal without Byars.

The problem with Byars and Missimo is we essentially had 2 players that did zero defending. We've added another player that defends without Byars. Where we will miss Byars is in games where we have to do a lot of defending and need 1 player to take on back lines.

Finished non-conference play undefeated with only a draw to Iowa.

Iowa does look legit though. Beat Nebraska tonight and they haven't given up a goal in 5 games. Think they're probably a top 10 team. Competition level is about to increase against SEC teams.

We're tough to break down defensively (even more so without Byars).

We've only given up 2 goals in 8 games with our starters. 2 of the SMU goals were against like 2 or 3 subs on the back line.

With SEC play starting, Texas drops its injury report- Byars is done for the year, per the AAS. Kelly already talking about how high she’ll be drafted., so not going to ask for a medical RS

Ah so it is required for all sports. Where are the injury reports posted?

Actually it may not be all sports - the SEC website only lists that it is require for FB, MBB, WBB, baseball

https://www.secsports.com/reports

Beginning with the 2024-25 athletics season, all Southeastern Conference schools will provide public reports on the availability of student-athletes to participate in each Conference game in the sports of football, men’s and women’s basketball, and baseball.

Maybe she confirmed it to the AAS in her weekly PC and not an injury report, because we still don't know anything about EmJ Cox.

I will also assume it may end up expanding into VB, soccer, softball

Looking at the schedule today:

Alabama - not ranked
MSST - #24 (road)
Ole Miss - not ranked
aggy - not ranked
Florida - not ranked
OU - receiving votes (home)
Arky - #3 (home)
Missouri - not ranked
Georgia - not ranked

Texas misses #6 Auburn and #20 Kentucky in the regular season. 8-1 or 7-2 looks doable.

Arkansas also got an easy schedule - but they do go to MSST, to Texas and to OU and they also miss Auburn and Kentucky.   Auburn goes to Kentucky and that's really it.  Not sure who will win the SEC.

2-0 on a goal by Shimkin at 12:38. Another assist for Missimo
