Finally. Great career, time to hang it up. That IU broadcast was a perfect victory cigar.

True but you realize now ESPN will be in charge of hiring a replacement right? If we end up with Stephen A. Smith or Skip Bayless on Gameday I'm holding you personally responsible.

So, putting the rule changes together... is getting injured in the 3rd overtime or later going to be an automatic penalty if the medical staff doesn't get on the field before the ball is spotted and they are out of timeouts?

That's well past Corsos ability to answer at this point.

College football loses one of its great game day traditions even if it may have jumped the shark.  I still would miss some opening kickoffs to see his head gear segment each week.  Another one for the nostalgia closet

He loves Texas. He’s going out a Longhorn.

Yep. Lots of options with his last bookending the first but what he should do is pull out the Buckeye, then stop and say "Not so fast my friend!" and switch it out for Texas.

That is, if he wants to be right.

You have the right idea but replace “not so fast my friend “ with…”fuck it” !

A college football tradition will see its final installment at the start of the 2025 season when Lee Corso makes his final headgear pick on ESPN's "College GameDay."

The pregame show has developed into a cultural phenomenon since it first went on the air in 1987, and it's largely thanks to Corso, a star in his playing days at Florida State and a beloved, energetic coach in college and the USFL. ESPN announced April 17 that the 89-year-old Corso would retire from the network after the Aug. 30 show kicking off the new college football season.

It's hard to imagine Saturdays in the fall without the fun-loving Corso making his pick in front of a raucous live audience, eagerly waiting for him to put on the head of the home team's mascot. He's put on just about every team's mascot outfit, none more than that of Brutus Buckeye, the one that started it all. Corso has picked Ohio State 45 times throughout his game-picking career.

What about his alma mater? FSU has hosted "College GameDay" nine times since "Sunshine Scooter" started his tradition, and Corso has made headgear picks in 28 games involving the Seminoles, according to Cole's Gameday Blog, which has tracked every one of his famed selections from across the decades. Here's a look at the history of Corso's fan-favorite tradition, as well as his record picking FSU games:

When did Lee Corso start headgear?

Lee Corso started the tradition on Oct. 5, 1996, when he put on the head of Ohio State's mascot to announce his pick of the No. 3 Buckeyes to beat No. 4 Penn State at the Horseshoe in Columbus, Ohio. They walloped the Nittany Lions 38-7, and a new tradition was born.

Since then, Corso has made many a viral video with his picks. He nearly fell out of his seat firing a gun for Oklahoma. He let an F-bomb over the air when tossing aside an SMU megaphone in favor of Houston's Shasta head. He had live gators alongside Emmitt Smith to pick Florida. And who can forget him bringing Uga onto the desk before saying "that dog is ugly!" and picking Alabama.

Lee Corso headgear record
Lee Corso has made a total of 431 picks involving some sort of mascot costume since first donning the Brutus head in 1996. According to Cole's Gameday Blog, which tracks big-name predictions across a variety of sports, Corso has been correct on 66.59% of those picks, going 287-144.

Lee Corso headgear record picking Florida State

According to Cole's Gameday Blog, Lee Corso has made headgear picks for 28 FSU games. The first came Nov. 8, 1997, when he picked his alma mater, ranked No. 3 in the AP poll, to defeat No. 5 North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was right: FSU won 20-3.

His most recent headgear pick involving the Seminoles came during the COVID-shortened 2020 season, when he correctly picked Miami to beat FSU in Mike Norvell's first season. Corso has been on a roll picking FSU games: He's got a 13-game winning streak that goes back 16 years.

The Seminoles are 15-13 in games involving a Corso headgear pick. He has picked his alma mater to win all four national championship games in his time on "College GameDay," going 2 for 4 with those picks.

Classic Bobby... and Corso makes Herbie wet his pants.

Corso will be missed. He grew on me over the years. This last couple years, it’s apparent Coach knew ball. He was nails on his picks. ESPN knows how to do tributes. I’m looking forward to the send offs.

I assume these means an expanded role for Pat which is unfortunate. These high energy guys are best in bits and pieces. I assume he’ll grab the head gear. Desmond has CTE. Saban doesn’t want to mess up his hair. Same for Herbie.

Given how woke Disney has become, it wouldn't surprise me if they feel compelled to break up the all male ensemble on the desk.

Given that the guys at the desk are largely time-fillers who try to entertain by talking and shouting, I am not sure how woke Disney would have to be to include a woman.

Not a woke thing. ESPN works their people to death. So I fully expect Laura Rutledge to join Game Day. She’s already on 30 shows. What’s 1 more that requires here to travel all over the country?

Bring back Maria Taylor please. Or my other girlfriend Holly Rowe.

They cannot. That’s literally the definition of political fucks - not being able to shut the fuck up.

Oh no. Not an attractive female on my college football pregame show.

I'm splitting hairs here, but I prefer Alyssa Lang.

Time to make Marty Smith a regular at the desk so he can fawn over Saban or salvage the CWS by giving Carl Ravech the job to simply smile and waive like Corso the last few years.

Then again I haven't really watch Game Day much since Rece Davis took over as host.

Draft Gameday is vastly superior with no  McAfee

Im sorry sir, I’ll get off your lawn.

Question -  Where will CFB games be broadcast in 2025??

I'll start a list:

  • ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, SECN, SECN+,  ACCN, ACCNX, and ESPN+
  • FOX, FS1, FS2
  • CBS, CBS Sports Network, Paramount+
  • NBC, Peacock
  • TNT, The CW
  1. Not familiar with the others like "Mountain West Network"?
  2. Does B12 Network still exist and show up on ESPN+?
  3. Sure seems like Amazon/HBO might broadcast some games?
  4. Please add any other places CFB will be broadcast...

It still is bad ass. It is the best sport in the world.

I am glad he is doing one more game and that is ours.

Lee is a national treasure and don’t think he did not help make college football more popular.

This is the greatest moment in Gameday history….

LOL I was at this gameday! I'm under the big U of H sign

That’s embarrassing. I guess they blew all their PJ money on Herbie’s dog.

Got a little dusty watching that but having trouble processing the emotions as to why.

I’ve settled on that it’s proof espn had him hang on 10 years too long… feels like a nursing home milestone birthday celebration with his caretaker sitting by his side… and where you know it’s going to be the last.

Tomorrow is going to have so many strange, conflicting emotions.
