I have always been partial to the tall wide outs in the game, our QBs will be spoiled for the next few years

The staff has really out done themselves. The 18 & 19 classes were awesome but I think this one assuming we get Jordan and Collins is a tier above those.

I know Clemson is gonna end up with like 10 5 stars or something but I think pound for pound our class is better

Above '18? Idk about that, that class was absolutely stacked

18 was great but, in part due to unforeseeable circumstance, didn’t address needs at RB or LB as well as might be desired. It remains to be seen how well those future classes will ultimately round out all positions.

This board wanted Johnson and didn’t want Omeire. Your wish has been granted.

(Gabe Brooks) Commitment analysis: Texas four-star pledge Quentin Johnston

Quentin Johnston, 2020 WR, Temple (Texas) High School

Recruiting: Johnston committed Saturday to Texas, which has been considered a frontrunner in recent weeks for the Central Texas receiver standout. TCU has also been viewed as a top contender for Johnston, who officially visited the Horned Frogs in mid-June. Baylor, Duke, Oklahoma, Virginia Tech, Houston, and Tulsa are additional known offers for Johnston.

Rankings: The industry-generated 247Sports Composite rates Johnston as a strong four-star recruit ranked No. 61 nationally in the 2020 recruiting cycle. He sits at No. 11 nationally among 2020 receivers and No. 9 overall regardless of position in the state of Texas for his class.

Evaluation notes: Johnston's overall athletic profile suggests a high physical and developmental ceiling moving forward. Not only is he a big-play wideout on the football field, he is a prolific leaper on the basketball court and during track and field season. The 6-foot-4, 180-pound Johnston finished third in the Texas Class 5A high jump competition in May 2018 with a 6-foot, 8-inch leap. He topped that this past spring with a personal best of 6 feet, 10 inches at the Waxahachie Big Green Relays in early March. He was a regional qualifier in the long jump and has recorded a personal best just shy of 22 feet, 7 inches. Johnston's height, length, and leaping ability make him an enormous target from a catch radius standpoint for his quarterback. He owns an extremely high ceiilng as a red-zone ball-winner becuase there should not be many defensive backs who can match his go-get-it ability derived from his height and vertical explosion. Along those same lines, Johnston has shown impressive field-stretching ability in the vertical passing game. While his speed has not been verified in a combine testing environment, Johnston competed the 4x200 and 4x400 relay teams for Temple, running anchor for the latter. That long speed manifests on the field in Johnston's long-striding, speed-building gait. Expanding his route tree and honing his route-running ability will be keys for Johnston, who can also improve his lateral twitch and short-area fluidity. That will aid his get-open consistency against college defenders, especially in the short-to-intermediate passing game.

247Sports National Scout Charles Power: Has a tall, angular build. Currently long and thin, Johnston should add considerable muscle mass to his frame once he gets in a Power 5 strength and conditioning program. One of the more athletic wide receivers in the 2020 cycle. Incredibly bouncy athlete who is an above-the-rim player and big-time dunker in basketball and a state medalist high jumper. Transferred that athleticism to the football field as a junior. A long-strider with top-end speed. Excels on vertical routes. Has the top gear to blow by opposing corners or take a quick hitch to the house. Plays in an offense with a simplified route tree and will need to refine his route-running skills at the next level. Has the ability to track the ball downfield and make some outstanding catches but will need to continue improving the consistency of his hands. A prospect with a very high physical ceiling, Johnston has the upside of an impact Power 5 wide receiver with the ability to develop into an early-round draft pick.

Charles Power's player comparison: Martavis Bryant

Excellent pick up. Welcome, Quentin.

Not as high as he looks. Quentin’s vertical is just under a couple Jimbos.

Let's run this up the flagpole again, Sir Genie or Magic 8 Ball:  I want LVBS and not Hester.

Some people on this board may have wanted Johnson (NTTAWWT) but I’m far more excited to get Johnston.

I didn’t realize that your mother posted here!?!

So, we'll give 'em a face full of Johnston? I'm good with that.

Welcome Quentin!  Great get.  It is 3: 59 pm and OU and Malcom Kelly still suck!

I hope QJ stays and makes a run at the state championship.

You're only in high school once. Take it in.

I get him not signing with us... but TCU? They're in worse shape than we are.

Uhhhhh..........on second thought.

Welp. I guess TCU will just always have one awesome WR who got away due to our own incompetence.

The price of cutting ties with Mehringer (and not having an OC and half our coaching staff in place by signing day).
