Why the fuck do either of those sections of Mt. Bonnel Rd open up onto 2222? The people on the Cat Mountain side can get out on Mesa. And I seriously doubt closing the Mt. B side would disrupt anybody.

Mt Bonnell / 2222 is a traffic light - either the bike or minivan must have run a red light, I guess? Even late at night I doubt that signal would be blinking yellow

Damn.  RIP Cedric.

You were one of the greats.

RIP Ced need to do something to honor him at the first game

or better yet the LSU game by kicking the shit out of LSU by 32 points

I remember when 2222 used to have all the desconzos for the crotch rocket riders that would go out there and lose it

Fuck 2222 - shit road altogether

RIP Cedric.

Is there a light at Mt Bonnell and 2222?

It’s a disjointed intersection. No light on the Cat Mountain side:

Yes. And almost all of the roads to the east and west of mt bonnell road 1/4 mile all “T” into 2222. Something doesnt add up?

CoA has ignored the 2222 situation for decades, just like the insane at-grade intersections on 290/71.   Even if you drive the speed limit, it is impossible for traffic pulling out on to 2222 to see you coming from more than 10 locations in less than a mile.  In essence, it's a "gun it and hope" strategy.  The only fixes are 1) an elevated concrete 4-lane monstrosity that will get full-nimby, or 2) a tunnel 2.7 miles long under the Mesa neighborhood from mopac to 360, at a cost of approximately $350M-$400M.

When I was in my teens I had to drive that road to practice every day. I was almost killed one night by someone driving on the wrong side of the road on the curvy section going down towards county line. Probably one of the more dangerous stretches of road in Austin.

Went running once on 2222 in 1970s and it was dangerous then. Never ran it again.

Damn.

My first memory of him was trucking Huston Street in the State Championship.

He certainly squeezed every ounce out of life.  RIP.

Several thousand houses that need access to 360?

RIP Ced Benson.  Was a beast when he played for us.

welp, if there was ever a time to break out the all-black mean-machine uniforms, this might be it.

edit: greatest tragedy to hit the program since steinmark in my opinion

2222 splits Mt Bonnell Rd but both sides of MBR don't connect to each other. Traffic on MBR coming from the north (Cat Mt neighborhood) doesn't have a traffic light at 2222 but vehicles from the south (Mt Bonnell neighborhood) do in fact have a traffic light.

Mt. Bonnell doglegs at 2222.  There’s a light for the southbound leg, not northbound.  Visibility is really poor at that intersection. There’s a hill obscuring the view of westbound traffic.  Certainly could have been the van driver’s fault, but my guess is Ced probably wasn’t observing the posted speed limit and there was no chance for either party to avoid the collision.  There’s just not a lot of room for error at that intersection.

Woah.  This fucking sucks

I had forgotten there is a traffic light on that section.

RIP

Pretty sure Benson lived up on top of Shepherd Mountain on Courtland Drive.

RIP El Ced.

I remember seeing him for the first time in DKR against The Woodlands.  He had a long run down the home sideline that I will never, ever forget.  Speed, finessin, and power.  This sucks.

Really fucking sad. RIP Ced. You were one of the Greats.

Do we know who was on 2222 and who was on road from mt Bonnell?

read in a story that he was westbound 2222.  not sure which side of mt bonnell minivan came from.

This is just terrible news. I hate motorcycles and would disown my children if they ever got on one but I understand those that love them.

Such a tragic loss. Thoughts and prayers to his family and the family of his passenger.

Loved watching him play football.

RIP

I’ve always had this odd wish there could have been some wrinkle in time and Ced, Derrick Johnson,  Nate Vasher and a few others could have been on the team that won the MNC.

Prayers for the family. Hook ‘em

One of the all time greats at Texas. Way too young. RIP

Still pissed Mack didn't put him in against OU his fr year.

And the next week he got 136 yards against oSu.
