August 18, 20196 yr Happened to me (car pulled into my path) about 20 years ago. Spent 7 weeks in the hospital, but with good care and by the grace of God got back into one piece. Never got back on one. R I P Ced— touched many peoples’ lives.
August 18, 20196 yr To an Athlete Dying YoungBY A. E. HOUSMANThe time you won your town the raceWe chaired you through the market-place;Man and boy stood cheering by,And home we brought you shoulder-high.Today, the road all runners come,Shoulder-high we bring you home,And set you at your threshold down,Townsman of a stiller town.Smart lad, to slip betimes awayFrom fields where glory does not stay,And early though the laurel growsIt withers quicker than the rose.Eyes the shady night has shutCannot see the record cut,And silence sounds no worse than cheersAfter earth has stopped the ears. Now you will not swell the routOf lads that wore their honours out,Runners whom renown outranAnd the name died before the man.So set, before its echoes fade,The fleet foot on the sill of shade,And hold to the low lintel upThe still-defended challenge-cup.And round that early-laurelled headWill flock to gaze the strengthless dead,And find unwithered on its curlsThe garland briefer than a girl’s.
August 18, 20196 yr To say this is shocking would be an understatement. This is a punch in the gut to our Longhorn family. Rest in peace.

August 18, 20196 yr Being at UT when he was playing made it a very enjoyable football experience as a student, he was bad ass. Very nice guy, too. RIP

August 18, 20196 yr Just got out of a movie & was driving back home when my wife gasped while looking at her phone. She said she was almost afraid to tell me while I was driving. I'll never forget that Midland Lee v Westlake state championship game at Memorial Stadium. Ced was truly a man amongst boys. There haven't been many I've ever seen run with better pad level than 32. Rest in peace, Ced.

August 18, 20196 yr I used to go to all the Texas games when I was real little to watch my cousin play, late 80's early 90's. Then I got into school and/or started playing sports myself and didn't really care much for watching college football anymore, you know just doing my own thing. Then I finished high school and went to Texas. 2003. I was hooked, man. Been a die hard ever since and always will be, in large part to his play in my first couple years of college. Rest in piece, Ced. Thanks for the memories
August 18, 20196 yr Saw him curbstomp my HS team at DKR, and then a couple years later couldn't place where i knew him from in the Brazos garage elevator and made dumb small talk thinking he was a kid from Bio 301. He didn't punch me or nothing. RIP player.

The crowd absolutely erupted seeing him come off the sideline. He hit the hole so hard and so smooth. He was unique. New Mexico St. He had his first TD that game too. I had media credentials back then and was fortunate enough to be under the goalpost when he scored. RIP Ced
August 18, 20196 yr Met him @ Rodeo Austin & talked to him about being a Judge for the Q cookoff for the following year. Gave him my card, but he never followed up. We will definitely miss you.
August 18, 20196 yr Awful news. Too young.  RIP. Did he have any kids? Seems like he may have had a daughter per Bo Scaife’s tweet, but can’t figure out for sure. Â
August 18, 20196 yr Man seeing this thread this morning was a punch in the gut. How tragic. I thought he was a few years older. Man, 36 is just too damn young. Probably just starting to enjoy the fruits of a lifetime in the gym and using your body like a battering ram. A well earned place amongst the legends of Texas and UT football. I didn’t follow recruiting when he came to Texas, I remember the stadium was electric when he came in. Everybody knew...Damn, this one hurts bad. RIP 32 and his passenger. August 18, 20196 yr Woodlands/Midland semi finals. I think it was the next year that we got curbstomped in the finals by... North Shore/Bobby Reid. I remember Danny Amendola getting just lit up at one point in that game. 4 minutes ago, Scholz said: Westlake state title game? I saw that. August 18, 20196 yr RIP Cedric. Prayers for all of your family and friends.  A great football player, 110%.  Â
August 18, 20196 yr My memory for things as gotten hazy, but when I think of Ced I seem to remember him putting the team on his back and grinding out yards in a win in Fayetteville in 2003. 29 carries, 188 yards and two touchdowns. Dude wasn't flashy. He was a work horse who got the damn job done. All-time great Longhorn. RIP, Ced.
August 18, 20196 yr RIP Ced. I remember he got arrested in Austin a few days before someone set the Texas Governors Mansion on fire. Not sure how/why that sticks with me but for some reason I’ve always liked to think Ced set the mansion ablaze and got away with it.Â
August 18, 20196 yr tonight's tower should be darked out with 32 in the windows, then tomorrow add the orange crown, and the next day the full tower until he is buried or cremated

August 18, 20196 yr Damn man. So log Ced, ill see you when I see you. Used to ride my motorcycle by there all the time for years.Â

Benson was crazy consistent in 2004 the only games he didn't break 100 yards in were Oklahoma (GDGD) and Michigan (because Vince went off) we were 12-1 and Cedric was our MVP. RIP to a Longhorn legend. Shame on people here for taking his passing to push your anti-motorcycle agendas. I will gladly die on my iron horse as it has given me more happiness and joy than any of you could ever fathom. Hell I've taken one motorcycle to all 48 of the lower states I'd never do that shit in a car.

August 18, 20196 yr I couldn't find it, but somewhere I remember a picture of Ced and Ricky together.  Maybe Ceds freshman year.  Ricky with his long dreads and Ced with his short ones. Â
