February 1, 20241 yr Whenever I see Mahomes do a commercial I remember this is a guy who managed to gain 819 yards of offense in a non-overtime college game...and still lost. That was a fun game. I think it was over 110 or 120 points and the game took like 9 hours.

But the KC crowd is riding the Mahomes wave so they don't want to upset that boat. They seem to have stayed out of the news better this year than last year. Good thing Taylor has been around to soak up the media attention.

June 6, 20241 yr Quote The NFL's new kickoff rule has altered the workout routine for the league's most accurate kicker. Justin Tucker said he has noticed that XFL kickers have been involved in 25% of the tackles with the revamped kickoff play, which has led him to add a few pounds. "This might be really surprising to a lot of you guys and a lot of my teammates because I don't hang out in the weight room too frequently," Tucker said after the Baltimore Ravens' offseason practice Thursday. "Now I got to get some more shrugs, get the traps going a little bit, just to make sure I'm prepared for a little bit more contact." Asked whether he plans to add more muscle, Tucker said, "I have put on, like, 3.8 pounds. Can you guys tell? Probably not. But yeah, I'll leave it at that." In March, NFL owners approved the massive change in kickoffs with a vote of 29-3. Under the new rule, which originated in the XFL, kickers will continue to kick from their own 35-yard line but the other 10 players on the kickoff team will line up at the receiving team's 40-yard line, which is 5 yards from the return team. The kickers will represent the last line of defense. Tucker, a seven-time Pro Bowl kicker, has made eight tackles in 195 games. His most recent tackle came Dec. 17, 2022. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/40293422/ravens-kicker-justin-tucker-bulking-new-kickoff-rules

My favorite quote: "Hell yeah, I want to be out there," Tucker said. "At the same time, in fairness to the idea that a safety or a linebacker or somebody that has a little bit more training as a coverage athlete, as a tackler, yeah, I think it's totally fair to turn over every stone and see what you got. Who knows? There might be a guy that can pinpoint drop the ball off the tee on the 5-yard line and then just go down there and smoke the ball carrier. I'd like to think I would be that guy."

December 1, 20241 yr I was curious. 39 yards and under in his career he has missed 3 kicks in 234 attempts. Holy crap.
December 1, 20241 yr Something not right. Father Time? Should be able to kick till 40 at least. Like Phil

December 2, 20241 yr He def got the yips. seen it before. I’m a Cowboys fan Unless maher was shaving points.
December 2, 20241 yr Can yips be a season-long affliction? We could definitely use him as a coach and ST recruiter.

Some of the good ones kick into their 40's. Wonder if he has a nagging injury of some sort that can unfuck itself over the off-season. He's been so good, I would hate to see him go out on a shitty season like this.
December 2, 20241 yr Tucker's 35. Old for a RB maybe but hardly for a FG kicker. He'll get his shit together.

Kickers can fall of a cliff in the blink of an eye. Dan Bailey and Mike Vanderjagt are 2 of the biggest examples. Vanderjagt was considered one of the most accurate in history. I believe he shanked a would be tying FG with no time left on the clock in a playoff game and never was the same after. Think he ended up in Dallas shortly after.
December 2, 20241 yr It’s mental(if he doesn’t have a nagging injury). May need to move on from Baltimore unfortunately for a fresh start.
December 2, 20241 yr How much leash can Baltimore afford to give a kicker, even the unquestionably best one of all time?

It's not like there are a ton of great kickers just sitting around that would be better, even if Tucker continues to struggle. The only possible thing they could do is not take quite so many long field goal attempts, as those are generally the ones Tucker has been struggling with.
