I'm so ready for this to drop.  Everything online points to end of August, which is pretty much here.  I started rewatching s1 'cuz I'm impatient.  Fell in love with Abbie Cornish again.  Serious wife material there.

Anybody seen a definite date on this?

The show wasnt bad, but nothing about the first season screamed "Jack Ryan".  It screamed  "Random white CIA operative prevents brown derka-derka's from blowing up real "Mericans"

and I'm fine with that...

I've heard that it's dropping on August 31st just like last year.  I really liked this show and am very much looking forward to season 2.  It helps that I didn't read the books so don't have any preconceived notions of what people should be like.

They must have had really good numbers on Season one to renew it for two more seasons.

I thought it was pretty terrible. Love Clancy novels and I love war movies but hated Pearl Harbor and feel the same about this one. I kept waiting for Jim Halbert to smirk at the camera...

The first couple episodes of season one were somewhat interesting... then it turned into "24" and went downhill.

It’s the Jack Ryan Jr of Jack Ryan media.

Hopefully Season 2 will step it up now that season 1 setup for his character is complete.

Looks like the release date was pushed back to November 1st.

This looks incredibly fucking stupid.  Pretty fucking evil as well.

Grrrrrr

Only way I could possibly like this is if Krasinski gets merked and Venezuela successfully nukes DC.

No way it could be worse than the first season? Right?

They had a great setup - going after the cartels.  Clear and Present Danger laid out the gameplay, and since Clear and Present Danger was first released, we discovered the cartels are 10 times more brutal and well-organized than originally thought.

But no, Venezuela is gonna nuke us all LOL.

It doesn't have to be that good for me to watch it.....to me this is "why not" viewing.

This right here.  Plus, you can tell Amazon laid out mega-bucks in production (if not on the actual actors).

Oh for fuck's sake.  A nuclear-armed Venezuela.  LOL.

Well, it's about eleventy-billion times more believable than North Korea invading the US (Red Dawn remake).

Yeah, it's a well-produced show that is fun escapism.   The characters are Clancy's characters in name, and generally in personality, with different backstories and relationships.

If you don't take it too seriously, you can really enjoy it.

Oh I’ll watch it, I’m a whore for Clancy-related stuff since the Red October days.   But, with the big budget Amazon is giving them, you have to face the fact that adversaries are probably going to be countries without much Amazon business

But it’s far more grounded had they gone the cartel route.

And besides, how do you do a season 3, when season 2 was a nuclear-armed Venezuela?  North Korea building a moon base?

SJWs march on Capitol Hill?

That requires them getting outside, in the sunlight.

It is fun, trying to guess who the next season baddies will be.  Need to get a map and see what countries have very little Amazon presence.  Perhaps they'll do a bunch of fake countries or something.

. . . because Russia conveying nuclear weapons to a socialist Latin American country is vastly less plausible than Japan undertaking a war against the United States by invading the Northern Marianas.

My whoredom had started to abate by the time a Japanese airliner pilot took out the US government and made Jack the President.   I really didn’t follow anything after that, other than a few Rainbow Six novels.

But I know there was a Russia-China war in the mix after, and that’s a little too much to film.   Some of the mid-later 90s stuff felt like he was bored and just drawing plot lines out of a hat

Speaking of Rainbow Six, if they had done season 2 around Clear and Present Danger, they could have easily spun off a Rainbow Six Series.

This makes more sense, plus you can make up a country.  Have them selling uranium yellowcake around or something.

You lost me about midway through that.

thru two episodes...

lots of overlap with clear and present danger - the movie.  i haven't read any of the books.

Binged it starting last night. I liked the Clear and Present Danger similarities.

Watched first episode.  Definite Clear and Present Danger vibes/nods.  As I said elsewhere, it’s a very polished series. Not cutting corners on costs.

I can’t recall my exact complaints about the first season except that the plot was predicated on everyone being very stupid and this version of Jack Ryan is the worst goddamn Marine I’ve ever seen and a total embarrassment to The Corps.  Have they fixed this?

Just finished. Good, not great. A lot of Clear and Present Danger overlap, which isn't a bad thing. There were some plot holes you could fly a Blackhawk through, but that's Hollywood.

Bottom line, I enjoyed it and look forward to S3.

I'm through 5 episodes and liking it.  In my mind I've completely disassociated it from the books and that's made all the difference from season one.  It's absurd, but it's fun.

finished it myself just now.  agree on the clear and present danger overlap, just 1 country over.

no spoilers at all, not fair to post anything less than a day after release.

agree that there were several deus ex machina moments that were completely too far fetched,  was about to hammer them for doing it twice in one episode until a legit, "wow, the writers really did that to him" moment helped at least close the issue.

2 legit lols at names though,  Jeff S and Tim H...

this spoiler is related to a sub-plot, reading it shouldnt even cause an issue, but spoiler just because

what the honest fuck was the plot of the secret satellite supposed to help-  yes it was in orbit over Venezuela, and yes it helped discover mining information, but how in the fuck did it get turned off when no one had the codes yet- other than the band of Matisse's operatives who handnt given the info to anyone yet?

Fixed.  Lest we forget, things got really fucking weird/far-fetched in a lot of his later novels, where he wrote himself into corners, or where he was just pumping out Jack Ryan fanfic.

I so expected to hate S1. Then I started watching and couldn’t stop. Escapism at its finest. I’m off to download S2.

It's not groundbreaking cinema. It is mindless dramaction fun.

If Clancy were still alive here in 2019, and was contracted to write an 8-10 episode season, this wouldn’t be too far off.
