The road map is there, we just need a smart offensive mind.

And Jerry Fucking Jones won't be firing this one after two consecutive SBs. He'll be in a rest home three years from now.

The Cowboys don't necessarily need an offensive genius. They need to improve on defense and get at least competent on special teams. The "hidden yardage" just slaughtered this team. According to the numbers, the Cowboys finished with 2.5 fewer wins than the stats say they should have. Part of that is racking up impressive numbers in several blowout wins. But -- the QB1 threw for nearly 5000 yards and had a 30-to-11 TD-INT ratio, Zeke rushed for nearly 1400 yards, there were two 1000-yard receivers and another (Cobb) with 800. Jason Witten caught 63 balls. The offense is there -- with the right person at the helm. The defense, however, needs substantial help.

And don't let Kai Forbath's 10-for-10 showing fool you -- he's a spare. Maybe more consistent than Maher but a spare nonetheless. I hope the Cowboys use a late-round pick on one of the best PK's in CFB. At a very minimum, it needs to be a priority in the offseason. Get a new punter while you're at it, Jerrah.

There's no doubt that the Cowboys have championship caliber offensive talent, what they don't have is an offensive mind that knows what to do with it when the chips are down, against really good teams. Some of the play calling on critical fourth down and short situations this year was mind-blowingly sub fucking par. Given this roster, it's going to be a lot easier to find an offensive genius who can control the ball and make our defense's job tenable, than it is to find another middle of the road coordinator who becomes head coach who hires a fucking QB coach as OC to start from scratch and try to rediscover what makes offenses like SF and Balt so goddamn unstoppable.

And Jones is on record as saying what the other teams do with their HC openings doesn't matter to him tells me that he's eyeing coordinators with the playoff teams (I'm pretty sure he can't talk to them or about them until their season ends) or a college coach (please, God, no). Of course, it is JJ. Stephen A Smith just said this team is emotionally dysfunctional, and for all we know Jones will go before the cameras tomorrow and say "I saw enough on Sunday to give Jason another chance." God forbid that.

Just saw this: "Jones has said folks would be embarrassed at the size of the check he would write to win another Super Bowl. Maybe he will attempt to prove that in his next coaching hire. -- Todd Archer"
