September 23Sep 23 Was that really a dis track? He really just pointed out that in no way are his courses for beginners. And fuck Rick if that's the case. Learning is hard enough without getting suckered into spending money that in no way ends up helping you.

I mean, if you enjoy influencer B attacking the more popular influencer A as infotainment for 34 minutes of your day, by all means, consume away. I just see it as both these dudes are trying to build a brand and following that they can profiteer from — whether they are paid directly by their audience or by advertisers looking to reach their audience. I say fuck em both. If $100 is so vast an amount of money that you have to legitimately forego groceries for the week after giving it to Rick Beato as influencer B uses to position his criticisms, holy shit, you shouldn’t be spending any time or money on either of these dudes. You should be spending it with Dave Ramsey to teach you how not to be a dumbass with money. And if you do have $100 to spend on improving your ability with a guitar, go pay for 2-4 private lessons with a local musician better than you. You’ll learn more, develop a connection if not a friend and help a local musician make a buck from their musical knowledge.

I'm saying he's right about not advertising it for beginners if it ain't for beginners. And, it was good to see exactly what you'd get. Rick sure doesn't break it down for you before you purchase. Sorry, Mrs. Beato. Edited September 23Sep 23 by Deej

September 23Sep 23 My main problem with Beato is that he really struggles to say "no, I don't know him" or "no, I'm not familiar with that record". Sometimes he gets caught in his lies and I laugh. I mean, his background isn't all THAT impressive. Shinedown? I respect his degrees in music, but a platinum record with a spare post-grunge band is kinda common. I don't have those kinds of sales, not even close, but tons of people have those one-off success stories.
September 24Sep 24 I’m sure he sniffs his own farts plenty, but he seems pretty knowledgeable to me. Way more than me anyway. I’d love to be that conversant in music theory.
September 24Sep 24 The one thing in that video (I only skimmed) that resonates with me is opinion that it feels a little shady when Youtube influencers use their platform to promote a secondary product of theirs- especially an informational product as opposed to a physical one. You already have a monetized platform (though admittedly deeply flawed). Just give the information on your channel, or create a secondary one. Otherwise, your channel kinda becomes an infomercial.
September 24Sep 24 i enjoyed the gilmour interview just because i've never heard him go into that much detail regarding the recording process, effects, etc. i think gilmour appreciated that the interview didn't focus on band drama. i do find beato to be fairly annoying. could be the way it's edited, but he frequently completely ignores obvious follow up questions and moves on to some unrelated topic.

This is Beato's strong suit. Whatever shortcomings he has, he has enough knowledge, experience and enthusiasm to be a pretty good proxy interviewer for his following of musicians. Like, what guitarist wouldn't want to seriously geek out with Gilmour about how all those great sounds came about and were captured? Beato gives musicians the vicarious ability to talk shop with and pick the brain of the greats they never would have access to. I can appreciate that, even if I still have never made it through one of his videos, lol.

So he ordered two more, and he still doesn't understand any of it, but he can't buy groceries. Poor little guy. Here's a little tip from ol' Uncle DougO. Just watch his videos about lessons for free on youtube, as well as his videos on ear training and other stuff, totally free. If you can't get anything from those, then an investment in courses seems unwise.
September 26Sep 26 Beato was PERFECT with Fogerty. For the most part, shut up and let the man tell interesting stories.

September 29Sep 29 I don't have an opinion on Fogerty's self-fuckedness, but holy smokes he has to be the most underrated of all the great American songwriters.

I think he's pretty much considered the greatest except maybe Carol King? I mean, don't get me wrong, Creedence is my ride or die band after the Stones, but Fogerty has to be one of the most spectacularly self destructive people ever. I love his work but man is his own worst enemy.

September 29Sep 29 I just looked at Rolling Stone's top 100 list, and Fogerty was roughly #30 of the American entries. That's crazy.

I can't say I've seen a lot of lists, it's mostly from discussion with other musicians or music fans, so not sure how representative that is, but Creedence is almost universally in conversation with Springsteen and Dylan as number one on the rock side. Carol King as just songwriter in general. But again I could be way off. Just now, jimmyjazz said: I just looked at Rolling Stone's top 100 list Ah, I see where you went wrong.

I just watched the entire Beato - Les Claypool interview and it was fantastic. I need to get caught up on Gilmour and Fogerty.

October 20Oct 20 If you miss beato’s what makes this song great videos, this guy is a good follow. Different format to his breakdowns but still good stuff. Edited October 20Oct 20 by HiggyBaby

He is excited about it. Maybe it’s a good opportunity? I searched out some of their live show videos and found it to be maybe the most boring music I’ve heard in a while. Maybe he plans on getting paid to nap on stage? I didn’t get it at all.

December 7Dec 7 I respect the living shit out of what Flea has done with the music school, but that interview was pretty fucking dull.
