Does anyone have any insight into Osborne’s level of competition? In his highlights he looks like a Brain Orakpo clone with how he uses his hands to get off blocks, his lateral quickness and how well he holds up against the run.

It’s at least as good as Finkley’s.

So it seems like Gullette is now the only one on commitment watch?

Pettaway is supposed to make a commitment this week if you buy that we’ve got a shot there. Sounds like Shelby is fairly close as well.

I don’t love that A&M is going to get the last shot at both Hill and Muhammad right before they are looking to make a commitment.

But it will be that sweet when they turn around and commit to Texas right after...the greater the meltdown etc etc

If those fuckers think it's out of left field that he's leaning us, they haven't been paying attention.

It’s hilarious considering they’re living proof that things could certainly get much worse than our past decade+ of futility.

Not worried about Muhammad. Dude has two cousins already enrolled and Billy Walton is committed. I think Hill is too far gone for A&M.

Spoiler

The Texas Longhorns begin the first full week of July with the No. 3 ranked class in the On3 Consensus team ranking.

On3 Consensus 4-star defensive lineman Sydir Mitchell became the 18th commitment for Steve Sarkisian and staff Sunday. The 6-foot-4.5, 345-pound still 16 year old lineman picked Texas over Georgia, Texas A&M and Miami.

The national win for the Longhorns adds even more momentum to a class that has a path to a first No. 1 ranked class since 2010 in Austin.

To begin your July 4th celebration, Inside Texas plays the recruiting game of Yes, maybe or no.

Yes

No. 14 LB Anthony Hill, Denton (Texas) Ryan

The On3 Consensus five-star is down to Texas or Texas A&M. The Longhorns have been ascending in this recruitment the last two weeks. Hill is scheduled to make a visit to Texas A&M to end July.

No. 43 RB Cedric Baxter Jr., Orlando (Fla.) Edgewater

The No. 1 ranked running back in the On300 will announce his decision August 10. Texas leads the On3 RPM by a considerable margin.

No. 50 CB Malik Muhammad, Dallas (Texas) South Oak Cliff

The silky smooth cornerback has a final three of Texas, Texas A&M and Alabama. Like Hill, Texas has been trending in recent weeks.

No. 108 DL Hunter Osborne, Trussville (Ala.) Hewitt-Trussville

The former high school teammate of Justice Finkley will decide out of Texas, Tennessee and Clemson barring a late push from Alabama. The Longhorns have been making headway in this recruitment the last few days per a long time source in the Southeast.

No. 121 EDGE/LB Derion Gullette, Teague (Texas) High

Texas remains the team to beat for the 6-foot-3, 228-pound high-end athlete. Texas A&M and Oklahoma is the competition with Ohio State and Alabama on the peripheral. A decision could come the first half of the month.

No. 131 CB Jordan Matthews, Baton Rouge (La.) Woodlawn

Official visits remain to Texas and Alabama if this recruitment carries over to the fall. The fast rising senior is scheduled to be on campus the last weekend of July.

No. 151 WR Mikal Harrison-Pilot, Temple (Texas) High

Texas made a huge impression on the official visit June 17-19. Harrison-Pilot’s fall or even December timeline makes for an interesting recruitment to follow.

No. 279 DL Terrance Green, Cypress (Texas) Cy Woods

Texas is battling Oregon and Michigan State, and others for the 6-foot-5, 275-pound defensive tackle. Green will be on campus the last weekend in July.

Maybe

No. 7 DL David Hicks, Katy (Texas) Paetow

The On3 Consensus five-star is scheduled to visit Oklahoma July 28th weekend. The Longhorns have made headway in thie recruitment since June 23.

No. 17 TE Duce Robinson, Phoenix (Ariz.) Pinnacle

The On3 Consensus five-star is making an official visit to Texas September 10. USC is considered the leader over Texas, Alabama and Georgia.

No. 28 S/N Javien Toviano, Arlington (Texas) Martin

Another prospect Texas has made headway on since June 23. The versatile defensive back is considering Michigan, Georgia, Alabama and others, but this one is expected to come down to Texas vs. Texas A&M.

No. 62 WR Jaquaize Pettaway, Houston (Texas) Langham Creek

The On3 Consensus 4-star is announcing between Oklahoma and Texas this week. Sooners wide receiver coach Cale Gundy and the smaller environment in Norman has placed Oklahoma in a good spot in recent weeks.

No. 71 EDGE Tausili Akana, Kahuku (Hawaii) Skyridge

Texas is certainly in the mix. The timeline is the question. Oklahoma is a trendy pick, and the 6-foot-3, 210-pounder is scheduled to be on campus in Norman the last weekend of July. Will he make another stop? We shall see.

No. 76 WR Jalen Hale, Longview (Texas) High

Texas can win this recruitment if the red carpet is rolled out. How the wide receiver position shakes out will be a storyline down the stretch.

No. 126 WR Jaden Greathouse, Austin (Texas) Westlake

Notre Dame or Texas for the physical playmaker. Has been considered a lean to the Fighting Irish for a few weeks, but he has made several short trips to spend time on campus of late.

No. 183 EDGE Colton Vasek, Austin (Texas) Westlake

This one is considered a Texas vs. Oregon battle. The Longhorns have momentum, and a conference on their side.

No. 186 EDGE Braylan Shelby, Friendswood (Texas) High

A true battle between Texas and USC. The Longhorns have plenty of momentum, relationships and close to home helping. Shelby really does like Los Angeles, and the USC staff. Texas A&M could get into that mix should Shelby hold off on making a mid-July announcement.

No

No. 13 S Caleb Downs, Hoschton (Ga.) Mill Creek

Should the On3 Consensus 5-star make a visit July 28th weekend, this one could possibly be revisited.

No. 88 DL/IOL Markis Deal, Garland (Texas) Naaman Forest

Deal will be on campus July 28th weekend. This recruitment could come down to timing. Deal plans to make a pair of fall official visits, to Georgia and Texas.

No. 179 OT Miles McVay, East St. Louis (Ill.) High

Like Downs, if the large human visits July 28th weekend this recruitment could get serious.

No. 265 DL Jamarious Brown, Moss Point (Miss.) High

Same as Down and McVay. Texas is working ahrd to ensure the July 28 visit happens. Alabama and Ole Miss are very strong competition.

Do you think King even starts the first game this season? I doubt it. Why else was Max Johnson brought in? Connor Weigman is waiting in the wings and is leaps and bounds better than King.

Betting $1000 on a guy like Haynes King to start the first game of the season sounds like something @closetohumping would do.

I think Hill is coming to the realization that A&M may not be the hot place to be.  When all your friends are jumping on the Texas bandwagon it may cause you to rethink some things.

Give the guy a break. He's going through some shit.

Some rich Morman businessman with multiple wives (who seems to be in some sort of drug-dealing cahoots with the police) has just offered him $50k to put the Morman out of his misery, allegedly for insurance money for his terminal bone cancer. But, the guy actually plans to murder @Fletch, burn his body, and abscond to Rio. Meanwhile, his wife is hounding him for back spousal support, and his spot on the Lakers seems tenuous.

So maybe just lay off him a little bit.

Seeing on other sites that Gerry said a DL "east of Texas" is now showing interest in Texas after the Mitchell commitment.

Spoiler

Team news and notes on Isaiah Neyor and the fabulous freshman offensive linemen, plus latest on Javien Toviano, Hunter Osborne, Jalen Hale, David Hicks Jr, and more. Get some July 4th Scoop.

TEAM

*Isaiah Neyor isn't afraid of work. While others are enjoying the sun and sights of the July 4th weekend, the Wyoming receiver transfer is working. Pete Luton, known as the "Receiver Factory" in Florida, came to DFW to train a handful of prospects recently. And Neyor was in the bunch, working on technique, releases, and footwork.

"He's a machine," said one source on location. "He walks in serious, he works out serious, and he leaves without saying much. Others are soaking up the holiday, Neyor is out here trying to get better."

*These freshmen offensive linemen continue to impress. (Left to right) Kelvin Banks, Devon Campbell, Cole Hutson, Neto Umeozulu, Cam Williams are the five fabulous freshmen. While we expect a mixture of lettermen and youth on the starting offensive line for Week 1, don't be surprised if you see Texas run out five freshmen for a few series during the season. This group could potentially be stellar, given how close they've become over the last six months.

RECRUITING

Hunter Osborne, DL, Trussville (Ala.) Hewitt-Trussville: There is growing confidence on the Texas side of this recruitment. The On3 Consensus 4-star has been on an August timeline for making a decision, but not sure that sticks. Texas has the stamp of approval from the family. Clemson may not. Tennessee is a wild card that is closer to home.

Terrance Green, DL, Cypress (Texas) Cy Woods: The On3 Consensus 4-star will be on campus to end July, and a decision will likely come a week after. Texas continues to trend favorably headed into the visit weekend.

David Hicks, DL, Katy (Texas) Paetow: The On3 Consensus 5-star has a had a couple of days of multiple initiated contacts with the Texas staff. And that includes Hicks, and his family members. Texas continues to make headway in this recruitment. Hicks is currently scheduled to be at Oklahoma the last weekend of July with his mother. Hicks and Anthony Hill are in contact quite a bit these days.

Jalen Hale, WR, Longview (Texas): Talks continue to heat up between Texas and the On3 Consensus No. 76 prospect for 2023. There may be no better recruiter than Johntay Cook in this pursuit. The Desoto (Texas) four-star and UT pledge has been working on Hale since last spring. Hale is eye-balling a visit to Austin for the BBQ event on July 29th, and knows how important that trip could be.

Texas is filling up rapidly and they'd like Hale to join the mix. But for that to happen, it's imperative to get Hale back in Austin. Jaden Greathouse remains a priority and Jaquaize Pettaway is looking to decide soon. Hale wants to make absolutely certain of his decision, he'd like to make it before his senior season, but is also a kid that refuses to de-commit, so he wants to be sure when he makes the call. Brennan Marion and staff are not letting up.

Alabama, Georgia, and USC remain in Hale's top schools category.

Javien Toviano, CB, Arlington (Texas) Martin: Nothing like getting a notification of "Arch Manning to Texas" while boarding a flight for an official visit to Michigan. Then minutes later receiving a text message from Manning saying "It's time, bro. It's Texas."

Toviano tells Inside Texas it was difficult to focus on his An Arbor trip knowing Manning just delivered a thunder bolt to the Texas Class of 2023. Oregon, LSU, and Ohio State will still get visits, but the On3 four-star hitting the ATX for the July 29th BBQ is in his crosshairs. Then this gets fun.
