The only examples of guys I can think of who were high picks that actually might have made more money from corporate sponsors in college combined with boosters enticing them to stay are Tebow and Manziel.

Great examples. 2 guys who each inked nfl contracts with guaranteed ~$10M.

Whittington’s not a good example. With his injury history, he absolutely needs to declare after this year if he plays a full season. Coming back next year and getting injured would really hurt his draft stock.

Whittington hasn't showed off any of his running ability this year, which is what makes him special (or did). My guess is he'll have some highlight runs before he's done and, if we keep winning, they will get a lot of play.

Manziel had a total of 7.7 million guaranteed over 4 years.  If he played in the NIL era of today, the aggy fanbase would pay him that much, full stop.  And he’d be more marketable for endorsements for an extra year as a top college star than as a bust in the NFL.  And neither he nor Tebow got a second contract worth a shit (or one at all, in Manziel’s case), so they weren’t pushing back any  windfall mega deal by a year like everyone argues when they discuss the hypothetical NFL star.

Dynamite drop in, though.

I'm not understanding why the Tebow/Manziel take is being mocked. As far as guys that would have benefitted a ton from the NIL era, those are two good examples. I like my Tommy Frazier/Colt Brennan/Jason White ones as well, simply because those poor bastards were not going to get much of a chance at all in the pros and if they'd have had a corona year in their hip pocket, they absolutely would have used it.

This is straight fanboy shit right here. I don't mind it or mean to discourage it, but it's fantasy. There is a better chance of me, at 46 and built like Tony Soprano with a manbun, surreptitiously being a part of the offensive gameplan against TCU, lining up wide, and taking the top off of their defense for a series of bombs thrown by Quinn Ewers than there is of Jordan Whittington unleashing some sort of torrent of amazing runs, slicing through defenses and becoming highlight reel footage.

#24405

Go to 4:38.  Whittington runs by a DB who has the angle on him and scores if not for the deep safety.  I think he's faster than most of you think.  Doubt he gets drafted, though.  If he were to stay healthy, he reminds me of most CFL receivers.

#24406

Nah. If he finishes this year healthy I feel pretty confident he gets drafted.  He's got good hands and is good in the slot. Those guys don't need to be burners. He'll be picked

Funny to look back on the Hicks recruitment in that he supposedly doesn't like our scheme, yet our DL is near the top in getting pressure on the QB.  Meanwhile, OU and aggy are running 3-man fronts and can't stop anybody from running on them.

Torrent, no, but he'll have a few like Lil' Jordan did, pushing off tacklers, stepping on legs, fighting free and getting extra yards. Dude is strong and determined.

Yards after catch leaders

Jordan Whittington – 185

Ja’Tavion Sanders – 167

Xavier Worthy – 130

Roschon Johnson – 129

Bijan Robinson – 111

#24413

Off-season reports had Whittington leading his group in max acceleration in mph, I think. There are tweets out there somewhere. By running ability I assume we’re talking slasher stuff too like high school.

The amount of insurance required for paying for an extra year would be nuts for both parties. Really, really expensive idea for anything under the 6th round

I assume by you quoting me and then posting YAC stats that you don’t know the difference between that and just highlight reel slashing through various defenses. Keep trying at this whole “figuring out football” thing and you’ll get there eventually.

I kinda remember him being talked about as possibly the fastest on the team at some point but not sure where.

We haven't seen him ripping off highlight-reel plays recently, which doesn't make it likely to all of a sudden start happening.

But, as the current YAC leader on the team, it's not outside the realm of possibility that we may see some of the Cuero State Title Game version of Whittington once or twice. He's not some bum in the open field.

I can't believe there's still discussion on how long Arch Manning will stay at Texas and whether or not he'll redshirt.

Both of his uncles stayed for all four years of their eligibility. Eli was there for five, since he redshirted.

And the Mannings have already said that they wanted Arch to redshirt. He certainly doesn't need to bolt for the money.

He's coming here, and he'll be here for five years.

They both also are hall of famers, so staying in college till their eligibility ran out didn’t hurt them at all. I’m sure Peyton is a college hall of famer but I’m not certain on Eli off the top of my head. I hope he starts 3 years and we win 3 national titles.

That girl is a 6, maaaaaaybee a 6.9 with the horns up, with 15-20 extra pounds on her in need of a root touch up and, yes, great tits.  Y’all some thirsty doofs.

however…

Yes, I absolutely would.

Cuero Whittington isn’t walking through that door, which is the source of our divide, I guess.

The OMG, Arch is going to transfer bullshit gets a little old and has always been stupid. It assumes that the Mannings are unfamiliar with this college football thing. I'm sure it is a huge surprise to the royal family of QBs that good programs sit their highly recruited QBs for at least a season so they can learn. I doubt either Ewers or Manning plan on spurning the NFL and sticking around for 4 years to get that diploma. This is how good programs do it. They don't have to rush freshman into full speed, college football when they aren't ready. Ewers starting next year will have zero effect on Arch Manning's plans.
I also highly doubt that Card transfers. He has always wanted to play football for Texas. What I wonder is if he has enough receiver skills to move to another position. He's not going to play in the NFL at QB. I don't know if he wants to play in the NFL, but if he does, he needs to try another position. If I remember correctly, he was a WR until his SR. season, or maybe part way through his Jr. year. This is just my rambling stream of consciousness. I strongly doubt anything like this happens.
Malik is the mystery box. I don't hink he's QB2 unless he turns out to be a major stud, Card portals, or Card gets another job on the team. So if I had to guess, he'll be the transfer.

Card started his entire JR year. For some reason a lot of people don't remember that. He played WR and backed up Baldwin as a SO. Baldwin went down early in the state championship game and Card had to take over. Card finished his SO year second on the team in receiving behind some guy named Garrett Wilson...

That is actually hilarious. Thanks for pointing that out.  And over time, as PK gets his ideas instilled and they are absorbed by the entire time,  we're going to be even harder to gain yardage on.   But we're going to start crushing teams so it doesn't matter to me if recruit X doesn't come here. With a very few exceptions, there are other recruits out there who are just as good and may be even better.

Speaking of Jordan Wittinginton, I was shocked to find out he has 2 more years of eligibility left. He currently a Redshirt Junior & he has the covid year RS eligibility in his back pocket if he wants it.

How many other 2018 & 2019 recruiting class guys that redshirted their freshman year are left on the roster?

Because he thinks TAMU fans will shell out $8M to keep Manziel for 1 year, or 2.  Maybe he's actually an Aggy himself.

TAMU also slipped from near top of the rankings towards the bottom, and JM went from Heisman winner to 5th in voting.  If there was a time to bolt to the NFL, it was then.
