September 10, 20196 yr OK, I'm not a big Green Day fan, but Dookie holds a soft spot in my heart for setting the bar that all poppy punk-n-roll bands should aspire to (and almost always miss). That said, this new tune is utter garbage. It sounds like Maroon 5 tried to knock off Jack White. This makes it the trifecta of suck. Fall Out Boy is apoplectic yet feeling superior. Don't blame me if you click:
September 10, 20196 yr Sounds straight out of 2004. Like the Vines and the Darkness had a stupid kid. Gross.
September 10, 20196 yr Author It doesn't even remotely sound like anything they've ever done. It certainly doesn't sound like Billie Joe Armstrong on vocals. I highly doubt one of the other guys sang it, but crimony, it's just flat out awful either way.
September 10, 20196 yr Yeah, that's pretty awful. I enjoyed them a lot when I was younger. I got super into The Who shortly after I got out of my pop punk/punk phase, and that was right when American Idiot was coming out. It seemed like a great homage, and the perfect soundtrack to everything at the time. I think that was my sophomore year at ISU. I listened to it last year for the first time in over 10 years and chuckled at the idea of thinking this was even above average, let alone brilliant. Dookie and Nimrod still hold up for what they are. Edited September 10, 20196 yr by Al_4_ISU
September 10, 20196 yr Author I never equated American Idiot to anything by The Who, but rather just a watered down version of their previously snottier selves. That said, it was a whole lot better than this crap.
September 10, 20196 yr I fucking hate Green Day. I had a roommate in college who had their very first CD around ‘92, so I had to listen to that shit for years before they went mainstream. That said, this is their best song.

I highly doubt one of the other guys sang it, but crimony, it's just flat out awful either way.I agree with statements one and two but not three. They created something different (for them). Sounds like rock n roll to me.
September 12, 20196 yr Billy Joe is the least interesting dude from... whatever group of dudes you might place him in from that type/era of rock.
September 13, 20196 yr The first time I saw the video for Longview I said “those guys are gonna be huge.” Every once in awhile you just know.
September 14, 20196 yr dookie was great. Everything they've done after was crap. After hearing the stuff they've put out the last 25 years since I can't believe they ever came up with dookie.
September 20, 20196 yr Fuck you guys, they're great, but this sucks, mainly because of the vocals. Also, they're apparently playing the Rangers' stadium in Arlington, with Fall Out Boy and Weezer. Who thinks Green Day is a stadium band????
September 20, 20196 yr I ilked liked Dookie for about three spins until their fake punk revival ripoff got stale already. They have sucked shit ever since. They are also a prime example of what an absurd pile of crap the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame really is.

September 20, 20196 yr Not sure what to think about this. Has to be the bass player singing, right? That can't be BJ. And yeah they are processed poppy punk but for fucks sake they invented the genre. So I still like them and fuck you.

I mean are we just getting into semantics because American Idiot played plenty of arenas. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Idiot_World_Tour Is there a difference between a "stadium band" and an "arena band"? You can't just play "stadiums"

Not sure why you're being so damn obtuse.

September 23, 20196 yr I am going against the grain here, and I don't hate this at all. I also think American Idiot is a spectacular piece of work.

I wouldn't say they're a perennial stadium band, but certainly they can play those venues in certain markets.
