  • I'm sure you took both sides of that debate.

  • First off there was no extortion. That was not in the transcript. No quid pro quo. Why do you make up shit? Who do you think you are, Adam Schiff?

  • I spent a lot of time thinking about this, unfortunately. You have to have so little self-respect that you are ok being lied to over and over.  You have to be ok with being told what to do.  You

So, it's not public yet, but the "Whistleblower" is a partisan Democrat who worked for one of the campaigns.  Whole thing's a never ending rope a dope.

I might put some stock in this if everything the whistleblower alleged wasn’t verified by the (not a) transcript that the Administration itself published.

Are you somehow under the impression that the whistleblowers political affiliations have any importance whatsoever?

The transcript didn't show anything.

Secret hearings instead of public ones. Democrats lying all the time. Denying due process. Oh yeah, it's a total partisan shitshow.

"Transcript" . . . "though".  What does that word mean?  Why would quid pro quo even come into play here?  What do you know about federal election law?

Explain why the hearings should be public.  Explain how due process should apply.  Show your work.

Try not to make it too clear that you're a fucking idiot (which you are).

Yes. Of course. Instead, we should I believe what team Trump says, because they’re not partisan. Not even a little bit.
See, it’s magical. If anyone who even once talked to a dem says something, it is to be completely and totally dismissed, even if corroborated, because partisan Dems.
But if anyone on team Trump even hints at something not confirmed, it’s a known and irrefutable fact.

Why don’t you show yourself in the Trump thread, you whistling twat muffin?

I'm mostly angry at the GOP for making a party that celebrates stupidity.

Being a democrat means you have no rights, apparently. “OMG he’s a democrat! Send him to prison now!”.

Secret investigation is my most favorite.

Ken Starr would like a word.

And I don’t give a fuck if the whistleblower had “Fuck Trump” bumper sticker - everything he reported was verified by the WH’s own memo on the call and by testimony and text messages passed along by Volker and the attorney for the WB has confirmed he is now representing more WBs with knowledge of said call.

But please do go on the record - are you okay with the president soliciting foreign countries for assistance in political efforts and investigation of American citizens?

In that effort, are you okay with the president using the withholding of American aid to pressure foreign governments into assisting in political efforts that have nothing to do with official American foreign policy?

Are you okay with the president hiding records of phone calls with foreign leaders on a system designed to protect national security information when those calls had nothing to do with national security?

Are you okay with the AG of the United States acting as the president’s personal lawyer?

Are you okay with the AG using the power of the DOJ and taxpayer dollars to travel around the world to solicit help from foreign countries to discredit a lawfully appointed special prosecutor?

Are you with the president’s actual personal lawyer acting as an agent of the American government?

Are you okay with the president’s personal lawyer being paid by shady foreign nationals to influence the president?

Please answer those questions. And I know this will be a challenge for someone who lets their partisanship and Fox News override logic, but try and do it without spewing conspiracies that have been proven false or reverting to specious whatabouts. Look at these questions in a vacuum. Pretend the president in question is just a hypothetical person. Pretend they’re a Democrat. Pretend you’re actually a patriot.

I do. And they don’t change the substance or effect of “I want you to do us a favor, though.”

What comes after is Trumpian verbal diarrhea. Nothing less. The “though” is the “pro” that makes it a quid pro quo.

Your guy’s a criminal. He’s going to be impeached. He may well be convicted. But he’s certain not to be president on January 21, 2021.

What are you going to do if he wins?

How do you think Warren can win Florida when she is promising (i'm exaggerating for effect here) to "destroy the financial stability of medicare and force rationing". That is what the pubs will say in their ads, and it's not far from the truth. She could put Cali in play - she's promised to break up Facebook. She can put NY in play with her attacks on the banks. Of course I've seen her drink beer, so we know she really connects to voters.

I hope the trial is the same week as the convention. It's going to be truly glorious.

Actually, I have a question about this. I have zero legal background and my government/civics memory is not super solid either but I have heard this term, "secret investigation" brought up when I have been reading around on the internet sites. I visit websites of various slants, and this is definitely a talking point.

But it makes no sense to me.

For example, the House Intelligence Committee has been examining documentation, interviewing persons of interest and so on with respect to a potential Impeachment Inquiry. Correct? Isn't that what committees are supposed to do? Gather information and then pass it along to the larger body who then assesses said info and takes a vote? That is how every committee I have ever been a part of has worked. So is this different somehow? If the committee were to examine the body of knowledge and determine there was no reason to move forward, then that is what they do, thus saving everyone time, etc. and they report that during the larger meeting.

With respect to accusations of secrecy and whatnot, why would a committee that is comprised of both Republicans and Democrats (Democrat majority) need to worry about that, when what they are doing is either going to be made public if it progresses out of committee (in this case it will) or leads to the issue being dropped?

Is this just designed to fuel outrage under the mistaken belief that the HIC is being sneaky and underhanded because if so, people are also leveling that accusation at their own GOP Representatives who serve on that committee (which probably never occurs to them). This is where partisan tribal politics leads us, and it is the biggest shame that we have forgotten that the country must come before the individual and the individual's party.

What are you going to do if he wins?

You can’t win when a majority favor your impeachment and removal from office.

And you know the best part of this. It’s fucking fantastic. You took down Joe Biden. The guy who told a bunch of rich donors that their lifestyles wouldn’t fundamentally change under his presidency. Y’all fucking took him down.

And so now, in his stead, you get...and it’s really so motherfucking funny I can barely type it out...Elizabeth Warren! You get Elizabeth Warren and her wealth tax and everything else.

Oh so it was rhetorical. Yes of course I read it. How else could I opine that it was a good read?

Why don’t you just state your point?

One difference, none of things are against the law.  They just make him a huge piece of shit, John Edwards level of scum.

Someone said it on here, which I think is the best way to think about it.  If there was no whistleblower. . . If Trump would have gotten away with this, the scenario would be.

Foreign government and ally announces official investigation (apparently on its own initiative) into a primary challenger for presidency, alleging suspicion of fraud and corruption.

It's that simple.  He was trying to get a foreign government to act in a way that smears an opponent, and hide his involvement because he knows it isn't credible if it has his name attached to it.  Secretly solicit a foreign government to interfere with out election.  Decide for yourself if it is a high crime and misdemeanor or just a totally cool and totally legal level of trying to defraud voters.

And all that is without mentioning the QPQ, which, if proved, doesn't give any leeway to determine impeachable.

Secret investigation is my most favorite.

From the Trumpkin point of view, it isn't about these things. It's not about Trump being a deeply, deeply unintelligent, dishonest, immoral, failed businessman. It's not about his history of corruption. It's not about his incompetence. It's not about what type of character should occupy the highest office in the land.

It's about his divisiveness. The love it. Look at how the crowd cheered yesterday when Trump started talking about Somali refugees. They hate immigrants, at least those who don't look like they do. They fucking hate Muslims. They want someone to put a stop to it. Trump is doing that, and they love him for it.

They hate gay marriage. They feel it in their bones. They see it as an assault on their way of life.

They hate abortion and want to see Roe v. Wade overturned. They'll never have the public support for a Constitutional Amendment, so they want Supreme Court judges to overturn it.

They hate social programs like food stamps. If you're a child, and your parents are divorced and your dad's a dead beat, you don't deserve to eat. Fuck you, that's why. Why can't your mom just get another job?

They love guns. Fucking love them. They don't give a shit that two generations of schoolchildren grew up scared of going to school. Heck, a lot of them don't even think we should have public schools anyway. Public schools teach things like science, and that doesn't fit in with their religion.

It's about taking a side. They very strongly feel that they know what's best for America, and if you're not on their side then fuck you. Trump's on their side.

You forgot he calls for the execution of innocent Americans. He explicitly incites violence against Americans. Offers legal aid for those who attack Americans. Backstabs our allies who fought against ISIS while sending Americans to defend the country that gave us 9/11. Openly states he's in love with a communist dictator. Takes the word of dictators over that of America's intelligence agencies. Praises a dictatorship that murders a Washington Post reporter. Refuses to criticize authoritarians who murder their domestic critics. Calls the free press Enemy Of The People.  Encourages police to rough up Americans they arrest. Insults American POWs. Insults families whose children have died fighting for this country. Deports the troops. Imprisons children from their families fleeing violence. Hires the very immigrants he demonizes. Has spoken openly about working with the mob. Speaks openly of paying off politicians. Openly uses his position in the government to enrich himself and his family. Probably raped a 13 year old and threatened her life. Beat and raped his first wife. Will not reveal his taxes. Has been convicted of tax fraud twice. Has paid out millions in court for ripping off Americans and charities. Speaks on a 4th grade level. Has added a trillion per year to the deficit to acheive 1.5 million fewer jobs in his first three years than the 3 years preceding his administration, giving himself and his family a massive tax cut in the process. Lost international customers of American farmers, possibly permanently. Has let our infrastructure crumble. Has sold out national parks to private interest. Has possibly permanently damaged our relationships with our traditional overseas allies.

It's the same exact thing that the cheering throngs were feeling at fascist rallies in the 1930s.  The only thing restraining them is the strength of our institutions and the values still held by the majority of Americans who oppose Trump.

It’s even worse, though, because all of those contrarian principles are now completely secondary to one unifying belief: pure, unquestioning loyalty to Trump.  He could flip on all of those principles  and the throngs of chanting morons would immediately change their entire platform of beliefs.  Because at this point, it’s all about being on Trump’s side no matter what that involves.  His followers have been clear about that: there is NOTHING he can say to change their minds.  They are cultists and they’ll follow him until the bitter end.

It’s sad when you grow up and realize 40% of your fellow citizens are brain dead zombies.
