The Longest Winning Streak at DKR Since 2009 Is Active & Oklahoma State Owns It

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

You read that correctly. Texas has not won four consecutive games on its home field since 2009. That could all change starting this weekend. Texas plays four more home games this season, starting with Okie State.

Meanwhile, Oklahoma State is the proud owner of both an active 4 game winning streak against Texas, the longest current streak, and a 4 game winning streak inside DKR, also active.

We can piss and moan about the 2015 rip-off from the refs all we'd like. I don't dispute that it legitimately looked like a rigged game, and the analytics certainly back it up. That said, one game shouldn't matter for a proud program like Texas. We're at a point now where other people can credibly make an argument that the fucking Okie Staters have lately owned the Texas Longhorns, and that we're paying them rent every month for using DKR, since they own that too. They didn't even need T Boone Fucking Pickens to buy it.

While this debacle has been unfolding for Texas, Oklahoma State has been flexing as nothing more than above average at a national level. They had an outstanding 2011 season, but have generally otherwise existed to validate OU when OU needs a whipping boy late in the season in order to beef up their playoff resume.

So is Texas back? To me, no outcome this season matters more to validating Sam Ehlinger's Sugar Bowl claim than the game this weekend. Beat Oklahoma State the way you should, and make all the claims you want. Lose to the okies, a-fucking-gain, and no one but the most nauseating apologists can claim that Texas is anything but a continued enigma, or worse.

So what are we facing, really?

Oklahoma State has faced 3 teams this season:

-Oregon State - 1-2 - Losers to both OSU and Hawaii, Oregon State just rolled an FCS nobody in Cal Poly. Once you account for fending off Stefen Djordjevic, Cal Poly has nothing for any opponent. Oregon State is hot buttered trash and they'll wind up 2-10 this season.

-McNeese State - 2-1 - Winners against the mighty Southern Jaguars and Alcorn State Braves, McNeese State hasn't had this much fun beating the shit out of black people since forced desegregation hit Louisiana in the 1980's. This is another program that shouldn't even be appearing on a P5 program's fucking schedule.

-Tulsa - 1-2 - Tulsa beat San Jose State. They'll likely stumble into another couple of wins this seasons simply because the majority of their remaining opponents lack the funding for technology that would enable film review, and therefore an understanding of the rudimentary requirements necessary for shutting down the Air Veer offense, or whatever the fuck all of the Briles disciples are calling their O these days.

In short, Oklahoma State is the softest 3-0 in the country. They've played no one, and they've struggled to beat two of the three no-ones they've faced.

Gundy always put forth a strong offensive game plan, and this weekend will be no exception. Undoubtedly, he's going to do whatever he can to enable Wallace to get open in space. Todd Orlando and his DB coaches are fucking idiots when it comes to early season personnel choices, so of course Wallace will inevitably torch our defense for 200+ yards receiving and 3 TDs. This is a given. Nonetheless, the rest of the offense has questions. Chuba Hubbard is a solid TB. He's putting up Heisman numbers because he's played no one. Texas will sell out, as they should, to stop the running game and make OSU one dimensional. The OSU Oline has looked good, but they've been working against defenses that mattered only from the perspective that they had mass and took up space. No one has stepped up as a real receiving threat behind Wallace. There is no old school badass Okie State-esque TE threat to provide headaches. Spencer Sanders is an athletic QB but he's young and manageable as a defense. So while I expect OSU to put up some points, this isn't the OSU offense from seasons' past that Texas is facing, and Texas is OSU's first test of any sort. OSU shouldn't score more than 30 points this weekend and if they do, Orlando should be fired attempting to enter the locker room after the game.

Defensively, and there's already a thread covering this for these guys, but Oklahoma State's defense is absolute shit. They forced 2 turnovers against McNeese State and have done nothing otherwise. They haven't been facing great OLs and great offenses, either. They have 6 sacks on the season, 3 of which came against Tulsa. Oklahoma State's front 7 is weak and should be exploited in the run game. The secondary is the strength of their defense, but it's not scary. It's basically just better than the garbage in front of it at DL and LB. In the past, OSU always seemed to have random 2nd-5th round picks sprinkled into their defense, and they lack that this season. This is a defense that should be exposed for big gains in both the running and passing game by Texas. Texas should be good for at least 40 in this game and I could see 50, easily. Anything less than that is a choke by the offensive staff.

Special Teams-wise, OSU has put up pedestrian numbers so far. There's nothing interesting going on with OSU at punter, kicker, KR, or PR. It's just an overall mediocre set of numbers coming from this group through 3 games.

Ultimately, Texas owes Oklahoma State a fucking beatdown. This would be a good time to deliver one. OSU is a paper tiger coming in, and they're not going to be a great team this year. It would be good to set a tone heading into the Big 12 schedule that says that Texas is Back, baby!, but honestly, given the dominance OSU has shown over Texas during this past decade, give me a fucking win. There's no excuse for that not to happen. Stop the embarrassment. Take back DKR.

Edited by closetojumping

I feel good about a win, but I think 30+ is almost guaranteed.

We do owe them a fucking beatdown.  This has been a long time coming, and there’s no one better than Sam to usher it in.  Stomp these fucks and take the bye to recuperate.

Are they going to task Kobe Boyce with guarding Tylen Wallace again?

Subscribed.

I will say their CBs are pretty good but that's not much help in the run game.  It may allow them to play 1 high safety and get more run support in the box without getting totally torched.  With the bye week coming it may be time to run Sam a bit more to multiply their problems in run defense.

I knew there was something about the title that I didn't like. What I meant to have in there was "The Longest Winning Streak at DKR Since 2009 Is Active & Oklahoma State Owns It". Fuck.

Argued with some friends over the summer that this game was way more important than LSU in the grand scheme of things since this is exactly the type of team we need to get over on to be consistently at the top of the conference. When Mack was winning things (1998-2009) OSU had exactly zero wins against us during that time. Since then, we've only won twice. Much like TCU game last year, this to me serves as a major barometer to the season. Win and we should feel confident that we control our destiny to the Big XII title game irrespective of what happens in Dallas in 3 weeks. Lose and there is no room for error getting back to the championship game. And I think we would all agree that not getting back to the championship game would serve as a major disappointment this season.  This is the only team that Herman has yet to beat in the Big XII....team needs to make it happen Saturday.

They haven't been facing great OLs and great offenses, either. LSU was good, but their OL wasn't and we still don't know exactly how good the offense is as a unit. It was also an all time terrible performance by the secondary. They have 8 sacks on the season, 4 of which came against LT and Rice, 4 of which came from DBs, and two of which came from their best pass rusher, who is injured. Texas' back 7 is weak, asked to do a lot in coverage given their blitzing tendencies, and should be exploited in the passing game. The DL is the strength of their defense, but it's not scary. It's basically just better than the garbage behind it at DB and LB. In the past, Texas always seemed to have random 2nd-5th round picks sprinkled into their DL, and they lack that this season. When the above 40 point guarantee is that easy to flip it is hard to be real confident in sub-30 with no BJ Foster and Ossai as an unknown.

It's absolutely more important, and I would have said that before knowing the LSU outcome. For all the hype and fun surrounding the LSU game, the outcome actually wasn't that important for either team as long as it wasn't a blowout. It wasn't.

It's been 10 years since Texas won a B12 title, and while the B12 is looking better than texpected this year, the path to a title is still the most clear it has been for Texas since 2009. Under this staff, this program has won big OOC games, it's won in Dallas, it's won a NY6 game. The next step is hardware. Beating a team in the top half of the B12 - one that has a winning streak so long no one on the roster or coaching staff has beaten them - to open conference play is absolutely huge.

Ummm, they have won 7 out of the last 9 unless I am mistaken.  There is no argument to make, they have owned us lately.

Much like Okie Lite last year, LSU put up a massive blueprint on how to attack and shred our defense. Gundy gameplans very well against us, and he has the tools at QB, WR, and RB to replicate it. Our DBs have no clue what they're doing in zone, our CBs can't hold up on the outside without constant over-the-top help... it's an absolute nightmare for Orlando. How do you stop an offense scoring 49 ppg with a defense riddled with weaknesses at every level?

we’ve lost four straight to the fighting gundys?  goddamn

Every team on the schedule that can throw a forward pass will replicate what lsu exposed in the secondary.

I doubt okie st has the same level of linemen as lsu, so our pass rush should get to the QB easily. I expect gundy to counter that with attacking the LBers with RB screens, RB wheel routes or flares.

Did you miss the strength-of-schedule component up there?

Burrow was throwing absolute dimes all game. I have confidence that, though Okie Lite will definitely score around 30-ish, Spencer Sanders is going to freshman it up on a couple of series while we eat their defense alive.

Who has taken more L's in a row: the horns against OSU at home, or you and your predictions? Two big streaks on the line Saturday that need to end pronto.

or, crazy as this might sound, they will try but won't have Joe Burrow at QB and thus will not likely be as successful

this is not to excuse what will likely be terrible defensive performances against OSU and Oklahoma, but I think we can handle the QBs on the back half of our schedule. Holgorsen and Kingsbury are gone. Briles has been gone. TCU, Kansas, KState, Iowa State (who I really respect, but whose offense is a total "meh")-- I mean, as bad as we looked against LSU, I don't expect any of those teams to accomplish enough throwing the ball to beat us.

Sr. Devin Duvernay has never beat Okie State. Let that sink in.  That stops this weekend. This aggression must not stand, man!

What kills us and has been a torn in our side for the last 8yrs has been the 30-40 yds jump ball passes. Even with upperclassmen we've struggled. Our dbs act like they've never seen a pass like that let alone defend one.

There were a few blown assignments by the secondary late in the Rice game that would've gashed us for at least 40yds. Naviar needs better communication back there.

Canadian.

The key to this game will be our offense ripping off long sustained drives to keep our defense rested and playing with a lead.

it is five games, not four.  because of conference realignment in 2011, we played them in back to back years at home in 10/11.  we sucked.

we had no business losing 15 and 17.  those were ridiculous losses.

we owe okie state so fucking bad.

Why hate to say it? I was eyeballing things. 5 makes it even more embarrassing.

I’m hoping the refs dont purposely walk into Herman and throw the flag.

So five in a row is our current home losing streak, and it happens to be against OSU. I wonder what's the longest home losing streak Texas has ever had against a single opponent?

Well if we lose, what do you say we storm the field 90,000 strong and rip them limb from limb.  Braveheart style.  That will end this once and for all.

No they fucking don't.  Your shtick is fucking old and tired.  Is OSU going to score points? Yes.  Does our defense have issues? Yes.  Does OSU have three NFL wide receivers, and a senior QB that is going to be dropping fucking dimes all day, as well as a defense full of NFL talent?  Fuck no they don't.

We should stomp a fucking mudhole into these mother fuckers.  Immediately after the mudhole there should be a public douching of Satyanash to cleanse him of this god damn vaginal syndrome that he can't help but queef up on these boards repeatedly.

just went back and looked...looks like this is it.

we went four games without a win against smu from 1935 - 1940 (but one was a tie).  until 2016, we were 0-4 in austin against notre (losses in 13, 15, 52, and 96)  there are a few teams we lost three straight at home to...agros from 84-88, colorado from 90-97, arky from 33-37.

so yeah, captain mullet (now a perm'd mullet) solely owns the longest winning streak in the history of texas football for any opponent in austin.

unreal.

I didn't piss or moan at the 2015 game, I just screamed my head off then swore I'd never waste another dime going to a Rig12 game.

Since then the only poorly officiated game I've been to was Miami v Florida this year. Duffy and a big12 crew. I was really unprepared for CFB to open it's season a week early with some of the worst in the game. Miami and Florida fans around me were completely dumbfounded how many long pointless reviews and piss poor calls were made.

This one's got some cute music

Gonna be another hilarious one probably.

Okie State is my 2nd favorite Big XII school because my great aunt went there and she told me about Barry Sanders that summer of 1988 before the season started so I became a fan in 5th grade. That and they hate the Sooners as much as we do but yeah we owe them a beating kinda like they owed us one for the perpetual beatings from 1998-2009.

In the words of the Immortal Lane Kiffin at Tennessee "It's Time!"

My in-laws are pokes. All of them. They’re good people and generally I want to see them do well.

We’re going to beat the living shit out of them this year.

Also as an interesting side note they have only beaten us in Stillwater 3 times ever but have won their last 5 in Austin.

That elicits a massive Dubya Tee Eff
