"Goodspeed to you read me?"

"This is Goodspeed."

"Are the hostages alive?"

"Everyone of them."

"What about Mason? Is he still alive?"

"He's dead, sir."

Carla WAS the prom queen.

My wife has the entire movie memorized.  We were in Munich for Oktoberfest and had a couple channels at the hotel.  One was showing The Rock, dubbed in German.  She translated it for a good 20 minutes with decent accents. Was fantastic.

Listen, I think we got off on the wrong foot. Stan Goodspeed, FBI. Uh, let's talk music. Do you like the Elton John song, "Rocket Man"?

What is wrong with these people, huh? Mason? Don't you think there's a lot of, uh, a lot of anger flowing around this island? Kind of a pubescent volatility? Don't you think? A lotta angst, a lot of "um ... I'm sixteen, I'm angry at my father" syndrome? I mean grow up! We're stuck on an island with a bunch of violence-for-pleasure-seeking psycophatic marines. SHAME! ON! THEM!

 I don't like soft-ass shit.

Oh, you - Oh, oh. Oh. Well, I only bring it up because, uh, it's you. You're the Rocket Man.

You chose...wisely.

Hi, I'm an agent with the Federal...FBI...well...I'm Stanley Goodspeed!

But of course you are.

That's awesome.  On our honeymoon in Munich we caught Independence Day at the hotel in German.  That was funny!

Con Air sucks. Completely unrealistic. The Rock is where it's at.

Why couldn't you put the bunny back in the box?

“I cannot give that order!"

“I am not going to repeat that order.”

“I will not give that order!”

“What the hell is wrong with you, man?”

Well it's certainly more enjoyable than my average day.  reading philosophy, avoiding gang rape in the washrooms... though, it's less of a problem these days. Maybe I'm losing my sex appeal.

The car chase is so much fun! Hans Zimmer did a great job with the soundtrack, but parts of it sound like they were borrowed for the Pirates of the Caribbean soundtrack (also Hans but a few years later).  I love how they make everything so ridiculous, and use of the city of San Francisco so well. Incorporating the trolley, the wheelchair basketball guys, hitting the water jug truck, ending at the Exploratorium, it's all great. The characters are generally caricatures, but it works well. Gay barber guy, German Jay Leno, surfer dude on a bike, all the FBI agents eating food while their boss is hanging from the side of the building, and Nic Cage being Nic Cage. This movie never gets old for me.

I always thought the rock and bad boys had the same score, not music soundtrack but score

Ed Harris is pretty great villain, but I think Cyrus Grissom aka Cyrus the Virus wins the bad guy contest.

Rock definitely edges out Con Air overall though.

I will fucking fight anyone who doesn’t like this movie.
I would also drink Vanessa Marcil’s bath water.
She got a lot of plastic surgery after that movie, not nearly as pretty as she once was :(

You’re not alive until you visit Alcatraz on a clear, blue day and say “Welcome to the Rock” about a dozen times.

If true, you'd think she'd get rid of the Wolfson mole.

It really was a top tier summer action movie, back when Connery was still badass and Cage and Bay were not yet punchlines.

Having never used a cel phone, how did he know how to call information?  How did he know his way around SF so well?

Bullshit, this is a high quality great action film. Don't lump it with the likes of Con Air.

I bet the people there laugh every time like they've never heard it.

How much of that movie was filmed there?  I've been on the night tour (highly recommended) and it doesn't seem to match up.  The shower room especially.

^Likely just the exterior wide shots. It would probably be too much trouble to try to film the interior shots inside there.

I went to Alcatraz last year, and I watched The Rock just before going to SF. I was a bit disappointed at how different the sets were from the actual facility. The cell block might be the only place that wasn't a stage set.

You've been around a lot of corpses. Is that normal?

Guess he reached his Final Destination.
