Speaking of Mario Puzo, I'm surprised Fools Die was never made into a movie.

You didn't miss much.  Second-rate director and a bunch of B-list actors who never amounted to much.  Could use a modern reboot, for sure.

Wait, there was even a sequel?

Isaac's Storm, about the 1900 hurricane that demolished Galveston. A phenomenal book with tremendous research & haunting details, in the hands of a first-rate director it could be a powerful film.

My MIL was from Galveston, her family took the train out of their days before the storm hit.

Not that I'm aware of, but there was a prequel.

Would not mind a series based on Discworld.

Your wish has been granted:

Surprised no mention of I Am Pilgrim. The Dog Stars would be good too.

See post 21

Years ago, the Coen Brothers were attached to write and direct with Brad Pitt to star but it obviously never happened.

WWII pilot is shot down over Japan and has to cross the island for a chance at rescue.

Without Remorse.

But, done unpolished and gritty.  Not big budget star vehicle.

Metzger's Dog or the Butcher's Boy series by Thomas Perry would be very entertaining.

I'd love to see his Baroque Cycle if done right

Actually was coming to say this. This is the longest book that I've ever breezed through so quickly. Loved it.

Probably well known among the literati here, but Dickey is the author of Deliverance and was the poet laureate of the United States.

He's a powerful writer.  And, in keeping with the stereotype, a major drunk that somehow lived to be 73.

read this last year and it's one of the better books i've read.  would make for a very good movie in the right hands.

I was going to say that exact book.  Torture scenes and everything.

Also I think I listed this on the same thread on TOS but The Historian would make for an interesting movie or limited series.

In 2005, prior to its publication, Sony bought the film rights to the novel for $1.5 million, but has yet to go into production

Would love to see The Master and Margarita get the proper Hollywood budget and effects it deserves. There are some good Russian versions.

Dreams of a Great Small Nation is the story of the Czechoslovak Legion that at one point seized control of the Trans-Siberian railway, the Imperial Gold Reserve, and kicked Bolshevik ass across the Russian East is epic and would be a spectacular period piece/blockbuster/Oscar bait. It’s too bad that it’s too late to cast a young Rachel Weisz as the love interest.

A more recent version of 1984 I think could be very good.
