Biiiig Magic Johnson. What has he done?

Just like a young man, coming in for a quickie. I feel so unsatisfied..

Jordan

LeBron

Russell

I think Russell is getting a bit undervalued.  His sheer number of championships, stint as a player-coach, and huge social impact are remarkable.

I'm surprised at how many people have Magic

He was kinda good

MJ not in someone’s top 3; that’s a new one for me.

It’s honestly debatable. Personally I go back and forth about MJ or Magic, but the top 5 or so is a very tight group. I went with my top 8 because the’ve al got a legit case for top 3.

New question: player who isn’t showing up in many top 3’s who should:

Kareem

I can't believe I've only seen Russell once other than my original tweet.

Yes, a lot of Houston folks are subbing Hakeem in.  Hakeem is solidly somewhere in spot 7-12....he is not a top 3 all time player, and generally sits behind Kareem and Wilt at C, much less all time top 3.

Whatever the fuck happened there with the post.  Point is Hakeem is getting a home town discount...it's understandable, I personally would not agree with it

I tend to not rate guys that I never actually saw play.    I do believe Russell was great I don't necessarily think he is a top 3 player even if I did rate players that I never saw play.    My three that I listed earlier and Magic are pretty much the only 4 I would really consider with a legit GOAT claim.

Bill Russell played in the 60s, not many people here would have seen him play.

The video on Russell is pretty ridiculous. He’s huge, he runs and jumps like a deer, and he has touch and skill. Looks like he’d be a star in any era.

My grandpa used to rave about Bill Russell and he was a damn encyclopedia when it came to basketball. I tend to believe he is probably top 5 all time.

I think Kevin Durant will be considered one of the best of all-time 10 years from now.

the association is deep and overflowing with talent right now, and he'd be the first person on any GM's wish list.

Cap doesn't get anywhere near the respect he should.   I dont really understand it.

He didn't work hard enough on defense and lots of times, he didn't even run downcourt, and he didn't really try except during the playoffs

Tell your old man to drag Walton and Lanier up and down the court for 48 minutes.

Lebron, Jordan,  Magic

It’s tough for Kareem to crack the top 3 all time when he’s the third best center of all time.

wow

4th best center to play for the Lakers? Just kidding, kind of.

Mikan, Wilt, Shaq, Kareem.

Yall must be trolling about Kareem or only remember him from 1985-89.

And he was finals MVP in '85 at age 38.

Bill Russell
Magic
Kareem

50, and I hate the fucking Lakers, but damned if they didn't have 2 of the top 3

Dirk LOLz.

an absolute defensive liability has no place in this discussion.

Put him in the Favorites thread, and you could justify it, but in this thread, it's bullshit.

I’m as big a Mavs homer as it gets, but Dirk belongs in a top 25 conversation, not a top 3 or even top 10z

I'm kind of kidding, but:

We really forget how great Mikan was. He led to rules changes (shot-clock, lane width, goaltending), was the star of one the NBA's greatest dynasties, averaged 20 points a game during a playoff series with a broken leg, and set all kind of scoring records.

In some ways, Wilt is undervalued due to the championship issue, but he was the most dominant player ever.

And in-shape, motived Shaq was maybe the most unstoppable force ever.

I'd feel good about putting Kareem above Shaq, but not so confident about the other two. This is looking at their entire careers, not just their time on the Lakers.
