I guess I need to understand some things that make no sense to me.

So with Ash if we had hired him away from Ohio State when he was a coordinator there everyone would be pretty stoked but because two years later he failed as a head coach, now he is a bad coach?

Same with Yurich, if we had hired him from OK St he would be a very good hire but because he went to Oh St and didn't call plays even though ther were still very successful under his watch he is a bad hire?

That just makes no sense to me.  I have no idea whether they will be good coaches at Texas but they have had the success to get this type of position.

The reason it makes no sense is because you are the only one saying what you are claiming others say. Most like Yurcich and most say Ash has a good resume but is a comfort hire for a head coach that already made comfort hire mistakes.

If we're to believe that the TE coach hire will happen after NSD2, all that leaves is the DT coach position. Hope Okam is announced before Friday!

Whoever previously suggested in this thread that David Beatty is gonna be  announced as TE coach after his KU lawsuit is settled, really did a good job putting 2 & 2 together.

When is it "settled"?

Justin Wells said over the weekend that Beatty wasn’t going to happen and hinted that he may get hit with some sort of sanctions over his time at KU.

There was a poster in this thread yesterday or last night, that said David Beatty will be announced as TE Coach after he settlement with KU is resolved. That post made me think back to the fact that OB or Horns247 previously mentioned last week that TE Coach hire will not happen until after NSD2. So a David Beatty hire as TE coach makes sense as a good guess.

That definitely makes sense in the context of Beaty's settlement being resolved after NSD2. Has there been confirmation that it's going to be resolved after NSD2 is my question?

If there are reports that "Beaty's contract will be resolved after this full recruiting cycle" it does fit assuming the hire is happening after NSD2.

I know nothing about the lawsuit.

Makes sense. It never made sense that Joe Brady would remain as a non-playcalling PGC/WR coach when he has offers for playcalling OC at other big programs & NFL teams.

Brady called plays at LSU.

Well, barring a singularity, after NSD2 is an infinite amount of time.  So it seems inevitable.

I expect their offense will still be salty, just not unstoppable like it was this year.

That's what Ed Orgeron says to the public/media. But when you watch LSU games & they show the coaching booth Steve Ensminger is clearly calling plays.

That old dude OC might be able to run Brad's offense ok. I do believe he called plays, or at least some of them, this year.

He calls what Brady tells him to call.

FWIW, I've seen several LSU fans say that Ensminger called first and second down plays while Brady called third down plays.

They just don't tell Ensminger that his headset isn't plugged in.

Joe Brady caught lightning in a bottle, he needs to move on. Getting a ton of credit for their offense when in reality his part in that offense is overblown. My opinion only but I need to give credit to Burrow, he was the one throwing the passes.

I feel like LSU fans are in for a rude awakening. Burrow and Brady was one of the best pairings ever. You don't just reload.

Pshaw. If you can go from Colt McCoy to Garrett Gilbert without a hiccup...

Look closer. Brady is calling in pass plays, Ensminger calls the plays on runs.

Rumor is Ensminger is retiring anyway.

Even so Joe Burrow was the it factor.  He gone.

How long before they turn on ole Ed with no Brady or Burrow.  I give it three years max and he's out.

I hate that this is about to happen, but I have some background in it, so here we go.

All kids are basically narcissists by design. Eventually, narcissism (self-centeredness/lack of empathy) is replaced by self-esteem in late adolescence and early adulthood. Self-esteem can be cultivated by family relationships, but also socially. There are often barriers to developing self-esteem in youth, particularly emotionally/physically abusive parents or lack of access to healthy relationships.

"Narcissists" are not one defined set of traits. It's significantly more nuanced than that, specifically around when (if ever) a suspected narcissist becomes self-aware. This is the divergent point - depending on the existing self-esteem of said narcissist, they can either go full on, or become somewhat of a hybrid. Typically this hybrid model becomes sensitive to perception because less than normal self-esteem combined with semi-awareness of narcissistic tendencies equals "people need to stop thinking I'm a dick". Juxtaposed with the other 94% of people who would think "I need to stop being a dick".

TH is a very good representation of the hybrid narcissist (narcissist lite). Considering the biographical details of his life, it appears that the educational accomplishments (MENSA, dual college majors, Presidential scholar, etc) are an effort to accommodate perception. He's clearly a really hard working guy, narcissists typically have no problem initiating if the work/task can contribute to positive perception by others. All of his academic achievements are just that, academic. MENSA isn't an intelligence meter like the IQ test, it's a society of people who have tested in. Hard working people can be very good test takers. Tom isn't a genius, but he probably knows that and overcompensates with work resulting in visible accomplishment to give the perception of genius. Narcissism heavy could give a shit what people think unless it feeds their ambition.

Professionally, overachievers thrive in environments that present clear boundaries and metrics for success and are typically best suited as individual contributors. Narcissists often thrive in environments where they create the boundaries and success criteria, preferably in positions of power or organizational influence. Someone that is both can struggle to balance their desire to be perceived as an overachiever and fulfill their narcissistic tendencies. A subordinate search would be particularly challenging as the narcissist seeks validation from the subordinate and the overachiever seeks public approval. The staff as it exists today is a delicate byproduct of the inner conflict of a narcissist lite. The desired skill that's yet to be revealed in any coach or candidate is the ability to manage up.

In conclusion, @closetojumping is probably right, and I hate it. I don't think that Tom Herman won't be successful at Texas as a result, but I don't think that these combinations of traits allow for sustained success.

To think I thought he was a narcissist because of the statements the new hires are making licking his boots. Now I find out that he needs praise from subordinates.

Not going to happen! LSU's biggest problem the entire 2010's was their uninspiring pro-style offenses. With the success they had this season, their not going make the same OC hire mistakes that Les Miles & Ed Orgeron made in the past. Their going to moneywhip a spread OC.

We really need to define what a playcaller is.

Everyone organizes their sideline differently, but the guy who sends the play to the signaller usually isn't the same as the person selecting the play.

Did you not watch those interviews? These new coaches can talk about football, man. Blocking, tackling, the whole nine. Look out.

Hopefully they don't go after Phil Longo.

I don't think he leaves because of Howell.

Harrell isn't leaving Slovis either

Yep.  If anyone watched this offense when it was just Ensminger calling the plays, they'd know immediately that this was the case.
