We’ve gotta play better defensively. Everyone associated with that side of the ball . . . We all get it. Have to figure it out.

Overshown being evaluated. Green practiced yesterday, encouraging. Foster being evaluated for everything.

You guys laugh, but what if they decide to pass??

Doesn’t matter, the four guys back there couldn’t cover/tackle anyway. That’s right, there’s actually four guys back there.

I've never played a down of organized football, but it seems to me that if Foster had even rudimentary tackling technique, he wouldn't keep hurting himself while missing tackles.

We expect to play much much better, especially defensively. Effort level was not a question just poor angles and fundamentals.

"I'm never going to say its personnel, experience comes with time and we/coaches will handle development". Most I've seen him call out the coaches.

By fundamental he means coaching.

One of our biggest issues right now is guys trying to do too much. Just do your job.

After 2 years of this, it's also coaching. They are obviously not landing their teachings, not being able to relate and land communication is poor coaching.

Yeah, to me, he seems to be laying this close to 100% on the coaches. Says we have good players that are giving good effort, they are just taking bad angles, bad fundamentals, bad fits, etc.

Then you have a bad staff Tom and it's past time to cut bait.

First TCU question . . .

A: really well coached defensively and still finding their way on offense at the QB position. Difficult to scheme against.

Asked about punt return stats and special teams

A: return game has not been good. We have to play more starters on special teams so you will see that. We should be using our talent advantage on special teams.

Who's the safety heading toward the guy that's already double covered and leaving the back of the end zone completely open?

Tom's solution to special teams is to play more starters on special teams.  How about have some balls Tom and hire a coach who is not a backup!

Anwar: still confident on defense scheme?

A: I don’t think pressing the reset button is always the answer. As coaches you can get frustrated, but continue to improve and get better.

Tom implying he's not gonna hit the reset button.  "Believe in what you do D and get better at it."

How about hitting the START button?

That binder must just be one page, one line that says "go for it".

Q on going for it on 4th down

A: complex formula that I don’t always listen to it. We have to do a better job of coaching our guys in executing plays. Lot of factors that go into the decision.

Edit to add commentary: lot of ins, lot of outs, lot of what have yous

So he doesn’t find value in getting pressure on the QB. That’s nice to know.

Jokes on tom.  All the starters are hurt!

In fairness to the players, i think they have the one-arm wiff technique down to a science.

I will say this Herman is the least annoying in the Monday press conferences of the last 3 coaches.  So there's that.

When you're more concerned about making an ESPN highlight reel instead of wrapping up and getting the guy to the ground that's what happens. At least that's from my experience playing DB in HS.

Going for it was smart. Running weird gadget plays was extremely not smart.

Didn’t listen, but I like how he seems To be blaming the coaches for the issues. Maybe he will fire some peeps at the end of the year.

I would think that would depend on what happens between now and then.

I was hoping that conversation had taken place a year ago but let’s see what it produces down the stretch.

yep, Herman is never going to fire his friends.

and also never going to win the big 12.

Mack fired Reese and GD.  Like several years too late but still.

No, the players. Specifically on defense I believe.

Yeah it's about the players, but it's speaking to their coaching. He's not throwing the players under the bus, which is good.

Yeah. Put them on notice and lay the groundwork for changes.

Give Dave Aranda 3 mil a year and see what he does with our defensive players.  Seriously.

I doubt he's moving on now that Orgeron seems to have stopped overruling his assistants all the time. He's got a pretty sweet set up in Baton Rouge, and it's hard to make guys at bluechips move laterally.

I would think of all the bluechip DCs around the country, Aranda would be easier as he and Herman have a history together.
