If Jordan can get a couple more birdies today he could get himself a top 10 finish.

Good to see Jordan put together a nice round. I have no idea how Phil plays golf like this without wearing himself out mentally and that last hole might have turned things in his favor. Guy has been all over the course this week.

One hole left, 6 birdies and 1 bogey...

Please just get a par on his final hole🙏🙏🙏

That would be awesome, as the WGC events are both rich getting richer and no-cut OWGR ripe tourney's that help you stay in the top 50

May still not Top 50...

55 J. Spieth.  USA   2.216.    106.39.  $370,770s

But this guy says Jordan is #49??

Top 50 live update: Phil: Solo 3rd
Jordan: Solo 10th
49. Jordan
------------
55. Phil

His big issue last year was terrible scoring on Saturday and Sunday. The way this tournament played out for him was perfect. No rounds over par, low score for the day on Sunday, Top 10 finish. Maybe this is the year he finally gets his 12th win.

Bingo

Jordan is at #49, so he is in the WGC
Phil falls short and jumps from #72 to #55
And the hidden beauty of it is that only one player dropped out of the top 50 - US fan favorite villian, Ian Poulter dropped from 50 to 51

WGC-Mexico field update: Spieth in; Mickelson, after missed putt, still out

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – Jordan Spieth is in, Phil Mickelson is still out.  That’s the unofficial projected update for the WGC-Mexico Championship field in two weeks.  Spieth’s hard-closing 5-under-par 67 Sunday earned him a two-way tie for ninth at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. That’s expected to be good enough to move him among the top 50 in Sunday evening’s release of the newest Official World Golf Ranking, which would earn him a spot in the first World Golf Championships event of the calendar year.

Mickelson? He needed to make that last 8-foot putt for birdie at Pebble Beach’s 18th hole Sunday to crack the top 50. He missed, but that doesn’t mean he won’t make it to Mexico. There’s yet another top-50 world-ranking deadline next week. Mickelson has a chance to move up again at this coming week’s Genesis Invitational.  Mickelson closed with a 74 and finished solo third in his bid to win the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am for a record sixth time. He finished five shots behind the winner, Nick Taylor.  The field for the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play on March 25-29 will be set by the world rankings 10 days prior to the event. The top 64 automatically qualify.  Spieth will move from No. 55 to No. 49 in the new world rankings, according to projections. Mickelson will move from No. 72 to No. 55.

Jordan Spieth’s best Sunday round since 2018 Masters earns him top-10 finish at Pebble Beach, spot in world top 50

Spieth’s final-round 67 vaulted him 46 spots on the leaderboard into a tie for 9th place. By moving into the top 50 of the OGWR, he’s now eligible to play in the WCG-Mexico event in two weeks.

By Scott Bell.  8:36 PM on Feb 9, 2020

Nick Taylor was the big winner Sunday at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.  The Canadian holed a bunker shot for eagle that carried him to a five-shot lead at the turn. And when that lead shrunk to two shots in 40 mph gusts, Taylor chipped in for a birdie on the 15th hole that all but sealed it. He never lost the lead and closed with a 2-under 70 for a four-shot victory over Kevin Streelman.  But outside of Taylor, there may not have been a happier golfer on Sunday than Dallas’ Jordan Spieth, whose round ended with some short-game heroics of his own.  He's moved from T55 to inside the top 10.

Spieth, chipped in to save par on his final hole for a 67. It was the low round of the day and enabled Spieth to finish in a tie for ninth. That narrowly moves him back into the top 50 and makes him eligible for a World Golf Championship in Mexico City in two weeks.

Spieth’s six birdies and just one bogeyed propelled him to not only the lowest round of the day, but also gave Spieth his best Sunday round since the 2018 Masters, when he shot a final-round 64 and flirted with a green jacket before falling two shots shy of eventual winner Patrick Reed.

Spieth’s big round came on a day when many other big names struggled. Phil Mickelson, who was in the final group with Taylor, shot a 74. Dustin Johnson shot a 78. Matt Every, in the third-to-last group, shot 80. Jason Day closed with a 75.

Spieth was 6-for-6 in scrambling on the day and led the field in nearly every shots-gained stat possible:

  • 1st in Scrambling (6/6)
  • 1st in SG: Tee-to-Green (+6.366)
  • 1st in SG: Approach (+4.469)
  • 1st in SG: Around the Green (+2.984)
  • 1st in SG: Total (+7.407)

The round came at a much-needed time for Spieth, who had dropped to 55th in the Official World Golf Rankings last week and hasn’t won an event since the 2018 British Open. He’ll break back into the top 50 in the next OWGR, which is especially important this week since the field for the WGC-Mexico event will be set next week based on those rankings. The top 50 players will receive a berth into the event.  Spieth, the 2017 champion at Pebble Beach, moved up 46 spots in the final round, going from 55th place and flirting with the cut line to finishing in a tie for 9th.

Some of the pairings at Riviera CC are sure attention getters

Rory, Cantlay, DJ 7:16 - 11:41
Brooks, Phil, Bubba 7:27 - 11:52
Tiger, JT, Stricker (wut) 11:41 - 7:16
Rahm, Rose, JB - 11:52 - 7:27
Jordan with Finau and Max Homa  12:02 - 7:37

They're just letting Tiger choose his groupings now, I guess.

The tour and events will do lots of little things (behind the scenes) to entice the big names to show up to their event. Kind of an obvious comment but I’ve been privy to some of it.

Tiger’s the host.

Tiger’s the host.

Yes. I was making a general comment of all tour events. I am familiar with the inner workings of two long time tour stops and seen some interesting accommodations made.

Surprised they don't make JB Holmes and Bryson Dechambeau go out last in the same group every Thursday/Friday.

Twitter comments are roasting that guy, rightfully so, for 'shot two eagles'

Eagles the fist hole, so Rivera plays to par 71....two under for each hole makes this a 35 alert!!!

I found it interesting that Tiger's driving average in 2000 was essentially the same as it is now, even though today's drivers get around 20 yards extra distance. John Rahm was making some comments about how players have gotten stronger and passed Tiger up from a distance perspective, but I doubt that. 2000 Tiger with today's drivers would average 315-320 off the tee.

I believe Tiger has said he is intentionally holding back. He could be near the top in distance, but is more focused on accuracy. He bombed it in a few tourneys last year when conditions let him get away with it.

He doesn’t want his back to fall apart either.

Jordan and Tiger might get an early pairing together tomorrow morning if things stay how they are.

Too many details of his last host tourney and why it's no more,  but if Woods had his choice of hosting a tournament,  Riviera would be far down the list, he has never faired well at Hogans Alley.

Big day for him tomorrow,  you know he wants to hang a W on a tourney he hosts.

Not a lot of Tiger talk, had to look at the leaderboard to see why. Ooof

"and Jordan getting a ruling" seems like the first thing I hear every time I turn on the golf channel

Every time Spieth asks for a ruling, they should stop the event and send over Patrick Reed to make it. And vice versa. Bonus entertainment.

Great final group tomorrow,  Scott, McIlroy, Kuchar. Go with Scott

I know Rory had some struggles with Sunday in the last year or two, but he should win tomorrow. As usual, if he was putting well, this thing would already be over.

That's the thing, I dont count on his putting or DJs putting for that matter, especially on those greens. Kuchar, most likely Scott imo

Also, it’s been awesome watching the way Rory is working his irons. Tiger is the only other player I see that seems to be doing it as consistently as Rory is.

Lulz at tiger still getting camera time 19 strokes back.

That triple bogey was so Rory.

This tournament is wide open. Love this event and course.

Did I hear that right that Rory was 346 off the tee on 18 into that elevated fairway?
