June 22, 20241 yr I'm not a homemade tortilla guy but I'm on a big health kick and Siete Almond Flour tortillas are pretty close to the real thing and lower calories. They are kind of expensive in Sprouts or whole foods but a 20 pack at Costco is a lot more reasonable.

June 30, 20241 yr Two dozen duck fat tortillas. Shaping is getting better after using the method where you pinch the edges and rotate all the way around.
August 22, 20241 yr My maiden voyage on flour tortillas. I made a batch of chorizo yesterday and wanted to try tortillas. Taste great, my rolling skills will take some time. Edited August 22, 20241 yr by RMac5
August 24, 20241 yr I’ve been using these lately. Really good. I did the homemade thing years ago. But you guys have fun!!

Guerrero is decent if you don't live near an HEB or some place where fresh-cooked tortillas are available (because anything is better than Mission!), but you might consider looking into uncooked. The two brands I have the most experience with are La Flor and "Tortillaland" and both are significantly better than any store-bought pre-cooked tortilla.

Complete waste of time and money. Looks great when you throw one on the comal....tastes like you just reheated an old Mission tortilla in the microwave
August 30, 20241 yr The 3 year old’s church preschool is having a block party to kick off the year. It’s a “fiesta” themed potluck. I signed up for tortillas and salsa. This is what I’ve been preparing for since we left Texas.
August 31, 20241 yr You're in NC right? I suspect a number of them won't know what hit them and will be ready to move to TX after tasting a good tortilla.
August 31, 20241 yr lol yeah the signup for the potluck had both tortillas and “soft taco shells” listed separately. People were skeptical and many opted for the stack Tia Rosa or whatever, but many compliments. Some asshole in a Sooner hat reached for the store bought before commenting “oh somebody brought homemade tortillas” and going for the good stuff, so I have to give home that. Folks went hard on the salsa.
