Urban's got a legit cyst on his brain that causes debilitating migraines

He'd have to get paid heavy to even come, then we'd have to hope he hires a great staff. He'll have every option though, coaches would be lining up for the opportunity.

At Ohio State

The talent gap between Ohio State and Michigan is pretty big. The talent gap between Michigan and the rest of the B1G is also pretty big.

We recruit a little better than OU overall, but everyone in the conference can score in bunches. This is the same guy who has hired Tim Beck, Ed Warriner, and Steve Addazio to be OCs. He's also got the same issues with hiring his buddies and retaining them. Urban also runs that outdated offense. His recruiting is top notch though.

I'm concerned that he'd be our Jimbo.

I have a suspicion that Urban would be a little more demanding with his assistants and players than Pee Wee. No Family Fridays if you play like dog shit.

Texas fans kill me.  “We can do better than the guy who won MNCs at Florida and Ohio State, recruits better than anyone, has the highest winning percentage ever, and only 2 years ago had a 1 loss Rose Bowl winning season.”

Also, the idea that he’s somehow too controversial is absurd.  He’s the fucking lead analyst for the Fox network.  If he were a PR nightmare like Paterno or Art Briles or something, you wouldn’t see him on your fucking TV every week.   He’s already passed that test.

Many of our fans and administrators care more about virtue signaling than actual facts and you know, winning.

As I said in another thread. Tomorrow. It won't do shit for this year, but recruiting is going to take a huge hit if Herman stays any longer.

What' he going to sell?  Winning the Big 12?  Nope--can't get past TCU.

We see the same horseshit narrative with Saban. “He’s won a lot of championships, therefore he MUST be cheating”. Maybe, just maybe these guys are really good at their jobs. We were thumping our fucking chests about Charlie Strong’s core values until we realized he got that from Urban at Florida.

Yep.  Officiating was some of the worst I have ever seen.  May have even cost us the game.  Still doesn’t change the fact that we are so bad that the officials were able to cost us the game.  This was not the 1985 Bears, or even TCUs best team in the last 5 years.

This is the mental shield Texas fans throw up to insulate themselves from the reality that other programs just have it better because they hit on their head coaching hires, recruit better than we do, and coach up and put talent better in the NFL than we do. They aren't just better than us, they are that way because they cheat. Same shit with Riley and OU.

I take back everything I said previously.

Go get him CDC.

Some of you morons are still acting like Urban Meyer is not up to the standard. I don't think most of you even came up with that thought on your own. You mean our standard of hubris and laughable incompetence? He is this only coach out there that could immediately put an end to the humiliation. This program is teetering on no longer even being among the top tier. Ten years is a long time. The only question is if we would be fortunate enough for him to consider coming here.

This is what he's going to sell. He's a proven winner.

4th, 2nd, 3rd with an 18-11 Big 12 record.  He's averaging 3rd in the Big 12 and is looking at that again.  Texas should be challenging OU for the conference and not 3rd.  He's lost to some crappy TCU teams.

“It gets frustrating sometimes because Gary, to his credit and a ton of respect for him, doesn’t do a whole lot. What he does is he’s got his players to play really, really hard. He puts them in great position. They’re extremely fundamentally sound. You have this false sense of maybe some confidence because unlike other defenses you play where half the battle is figuring out where they’re going to be, lined up, blitzing from, and rushing from, and all that stuff — that battle is not one that’s waged a whole lot against Coach Patterson’s defenses.

“The battle is, ‘Can we play more fundamentally sound than them? Can we play harder than them?’ There are going to be some schematic things that you want to take advantage of. It’s a matter of making those opportunities count and not having long foul balls when you schemed up a shot against a certain coverage.

Herman didn't once again and Texas hasn't begun playing the better teams in the conference yet.  This was.the team that was supposed to make a run--they had experience everywhere.  What's the point of playing a complex offense if you miss the easy things--can't stay onside or makes catches?  I thought the defense was supposed to be pared down to basics but we have linebackers and safeties out of position leaving the middle of the field wide open and nobody sees it.

To add, I think if Texas gets a good offensive line coach, they'll be a lot better.  But we've also been through three already and they all had their drawbacks.  I'd money whip Bill Bedenbaugh.

I'm maybe one of the few who really likes Tom Herman. As a person. But he doesn't have what it takes. I hate saying that. We need to move on.

Would Urban tell the players to just "relax", after a shit-tastic first half?  No?  Okay, let's get him.

I don’t mean that - to be clear I’m talking about the attitude that somehow Texas is above hiring someone like Urban Meyer. Like we have some sort of moral authority and Urban for some reason in his past doesn’t fit our “standard”

Gotcha. I mean we're above hiring someone like Urban Meyer yet we'll hire coaches from programs we'd never allow into the Big 12. Our standards are a joke. We went for the best worst hire each time we had the chance. Charlie was the best option after Saban wasn't an option when we probably should've gone for James Franklin. We didn't even make it beyond a 2nd option to Herman because we were afraid to lose him to LSU. Think of the massive favor we did LSU.

Can we do them both at the same time. Why wait for #1 THEN move on to #2?

How about we get Urban then let the bums do what they want?

Like I said in the other thread, if we hire Meyer, I will not lose one night’s sleep if some fans decide to cancel their tickets on principle. We can still win and be proud of our school. It’s almost like people aren’t aware that when teams come to our stadium and beat us they are laughing their asses off all the way home, not saying “Gee that Texas sure runs a clean program. I’m in awe of their fortitude.” Nope they are laughing. Their asses off. They need to fear us. Now most teams pencil us in as a maybe on the more schedule as a possible win for them.

No one touts a "clean program" more than the losers. Which is us right now. It is the only thing we can hang our hat on. "Well at least we are clean!". When you win, you let the other shit slide. Except Briles and Paterno shit. But committing NCAA violations or having players get in shit off the field? Who cares.

People say that UT, as an institution, doesn't care about football enough to have a consistently elite program.

I've mostly thought that this is bullshit. But I will say...if Alabama or Ohio St or OU or one of those schools had a program that has been this bad for 11 years, with a 4th-year coach who is this crappy, with Urban fucking Meyer sitting out there doing TV...what do you suppose they'd do? This would have been done last December.

Man did Colin Cowherd rip UT a new one today. I typically don’t agree with his takes but...

it was the right/wrong segment: said he was wrong about Herman being the best hire for Texas. Likes him. Blah blah blah...good recruiting on offense...good offensive mind BUT....

UT should not take four or five years to rebuild. We have the most money in the conference. Easiest and best recruiting with OU 2nd and TCU a close 3rd. No reason the defense should be this atrocious. That we should lose this many times to TCU with an NFL caliber senior quarterback. No excuses for why we are this bad except it is coaching. And Colin likes Herman so...

ITA! It shouldn’t take us four fucking years to rebuild. Period. Period. And at the end of four still look like we did Saturday.

  • Author

I can’t remember the post but in the modern age the turn around time isn’t 4-6 years for a program it’s 2-3 years with a significant jump in year 2.

Didn’t see this posted so forgive me if it has been.

Anyone doubting whether urban is the right option, tell me one coach (aside from saban and dabo who aren't moving) who you'd be more pissed to hear is taking over at ou? Or aggy? I can't think of a single coach I'd hate to see hired more at those schools, which tells you all you need to know about who we should be pursuing here.

If we don't, it's only a year or two at max before usc pulls the trigger and we all get to watch as he builds them back to a power program, which is what he'll do wherever he goes next.

Even if you argue he's past his coaching prime (and based on what, exactly?), the immediate recruiting jolt would help you rebuild for at least 2-3 years and set you up for the next guy.

It's time to stop fucking around and go all in on someone proven. We tried the up and comer route twice in a row and got burnt. Giving Herman four years was probably the right thing given the "cake" he was handed and some of the early obvious improvement, but unless we go undefeated the rest of the way you have to argue he had his chance and failed. Time to level up.

Here’s what we should do.  Get Urban or Shanahan and steal Tech’s b-ball Coach.  I mean what the fuck are we doing here?  I keep hearing we have all this money so it shouldn’t be a problem, right?
