Looks like a captain's hat.  Is Tennille throwing out the first pitch?

Imagine going from walking up to the beautiful ballpark to this rodeo and fairgrounds travesty.

I'm actually excited about the new place but this is not it's best side.

Honestly this is pretty on par with the Rangers organization.  Trot out an average team in below average new uniforms to play in a soulless stadium.

Stadium looks discount. Excited to finish 4th in the division + best prospect is ranked 99th in baseball.

Is “discount” the opposite of “extra” or “100”?

But it has a roof!! This will get us all the pitchers!

Maybe they can tear it down in ten years and just move back into the former awesome stadium.

It looks like something that belongs in Fort Worth. Missed it by that much.

I don’t think they will have to wait that long. Something about it just screams tornado magnet.

More on CF.

The story on James Jones at star-telegram.com asks (and partially answers) the question: Who is the fastest Rangers player now that Delino DeShields is gone?

It might be Jones, who stole 27 bases in 2014 for the Seattle Mariners as an outfielder. He claims he can still fly even though the sprints he runs are shorter than they used to be.

Of those who are likely to make the Opening Day roster, Nick Solak, Danny Santana and Rougned Odor received some votes. So did Ronald Guzman, from smart aleck Joey Gallo.

But the two fastest players in camp are Eli White and Leody Taveras.

White, who was first mentioned by general manager Jon Daniels, posted the fastest 10-yard sprint Monday at 1.6 seconds. That just edged Taveras at 1.63.

“I like to run,” White said.

Taveras, though, is confident that he can beat White over a longer distance.

Taveras is thought to be the Rangers’ future in center field, though former first-round pick Bubba Thompson and a few others might have something to say about that. White might be one of them.

Manager Chris Woodward said that White has the potential be an elite center fielder, and would come with a decent bat. That bat is a tick ahead of Taveras’ bat at this point.

White will see game action this spring in center field, Woodward said, but Santana and Solak will start the first two games Friday and Saturday.

Woodward expects Solak to play most of his games this spring in center field, especially early on. He might also do some work during intrasquad games and B games, which there will be plenty of to accommodate all the innings the 37 healthy pitchers will need.

Ya know...at least we get to bitch about an ugly stadium and not be tasked with defending an organization that cheats it’s ass off. Bright side.

Can we try a joint custody arrangement for the stadiums? April/May/Sept in the old ballpark and June/July/Aug in the new one?

Wilson’s early projections. Just stay healthy, Duffy.

Quote

Infield (5): Elvis Andrus, ss; Rougned Odor, 2b; Todd Frazier 3b; Ronald Guzman, 1b; Matt Duffy, util.

Comment: Guzman is on the 40-man roster, so that gives him the early edge on Greg Bird. Bird, of course, has to stay on the field. The backup first baseman is Frazier, in part because Duffy’s best position is third base.

Andrus and Odor are locked in, but Odor is facing heavy scrutiny. The Rangers also want more from Andrus, though it seems hard to imagine him losing playing time if he isn’t as productive as he was in 2017 or even last season. Duffy can play shortstop when Andrus needs a day off.

Outfield/DH (6): Willie Calhoun, lf; Danny Santana, cf; Joey Gallo, rf; Shin-Soo Choo, dh; Nick Solak, util; Scott Heineman, of.

Comment: Solak will also play in the infield, particularly at second base if Odor flops, but the Rangers need to learn this spring if he can play center field. Santana is projected to play most in center field, though the Rangers would like to move him around.

Heineman makes the team, edging out infielder Isiah-Kiner Falefa, because of the uncertainty with Solak’s abilities in center and because he can play all three spots capably.

I saw on reddit that he’s taking a new approach to hitting this year.

An approach the results in him getting on base would be a nice change of pace.

Don’t really agree with this, working a guy at 1B won’t fuck up his OF. And he’ll really be the 5th OF if Solak can fake CF.

• The Rangers used outfielder Scott Heineman at first base last year to increase his versatility. This spring, the focus will be on outfield, since Heineman has a chance to make the team as a fourth outfielder.

They should call it The Lumber Yard.

Some badass work by the grounds crew on the lawn striping here. Won’t be seeing much of that in a few weeks.

If you have Direct, we’re on channel 687 now against Sea in Peoria. Joey’s up.

Rougie hit a 1-hopper to the P that a 4-year old could have fielded to end the inning.

Thanks.

I guess it's an expanded sports package thing. Not part of my subscription deal.

My biggest fear is that Joey is going to show that the first half of last season was a fluke, and go back to hitting about .210.

#447

IKF just can’t hit. Duffy will beat him out for the UIF role, he’s started at SS twice already.

Thanks for Kluber, enjoy DD.

The Indians received another injury blow Thursday, as an MRI revealed a moderate strain of the teres major muscle in hard-throwing young reliever Emmanuel Clase‘s back. Clase, the main player Cleveland received in the trade that sent Corey Kluber to the Rangers, is expected to miss eight to 12 weeks of game activity.

I could have sworn when the Rangers were on TV the other day he had hit a double and a grand slam (though I missed that part).
