December 2, 20187 yr 1991 so it just missed the 80s. Sappy flick with Pfeiffer/Pacino. I had such a crush on her.

And an endless supply of quotes for Surly posts. Considering the type of people you are and the environment you're in, you have to admit the strong possibility this may be the only chance you ever have in your entire lives to have sex.
December 3, 20187 yr The 80s were a great heyday for the medieval fantasy genre...so many bad but good movies...

December 4, 20187 yr Did I miss Top Gun? loved: Bull Durham The Best of Times Cinema Paradiso When Harry Met Sally Scrooged The Big Chill
December 4, 20187 yr I'm sure I posted this one on Shaggy when we had an 80s movie thread there. It's available in its entirety on Youtube.
December 4, 20187 yr Great pull on Moving Violations. "Drain out all the water, take in plenty of oil, grease up that back end, get out on the highway and go at full speed for about ten miles. See how it feels."

But he's also made some of my favorite films, such as Bull Durham (my favorite sports movie of all time), Field of Dreams, Fandango, Dances with Wolves (yeah it's good, come after me bro), A Perfect World. And No Way Out is an incredibly underrated political thriller. I'll watch that any time it's on. Can't forget Tin Cup. Have you ever been to Amarillo?
December 4, 20187 yr Oh and has anyone said "Ladyhawke" yet? Because Ladyhawke. " I know I promised, Lord, never again. But I also know that YOU know what a weak-willed person I am." Broderick laying the charm on thick in this one.

December 5, 20187 yr I'm gonna have to check out Band of the Hand I don't know that one. '91 I think but still feels like an 80's movie is "The Hard Way" with MJF and James Woods. Way underrated movie. Watch it to the end every time I see it on.

I think even better than Ladyhawke was Flesh and Blood, 1985 or so, because a naked Jennifer Jason Leigh was a main character.
December 5, 20187 yr Anyone mention Time Bandits? Also, the whole American Ninja genre was right up our elementary school wheelhouse.
December 5, 20187 yr Maybe the best decade for rewatchable and pop culture important movies. It might be. It is definitely the worst decade (at the time at least) for all-time top 100 type classic movies. The 60s and 70s were amazing, but Spielberg destroyed all that momentum. We went from auteurs to blockbusters. Tarantino helped reverse the trend for a while, but art doesn’t stand much of a chance vs money in a city like Hollywood.
December 5, 20187 yr Time Bandits as well as any of the other two (Brazil and Barron Von M.) in the "imagination" series. I am especially fond of TB since it connects with my childhood and had a lighter tone.

December 6, 20187 yr TV movie? This was iconic 80s. The chick having her second lizard kid scarred 8 year old me for life.

Took the original and exaggerated it in the best possible way. And the story behind it is amazing. https://www.denofgeek.com/us/movies/gremlins/233074/why-gremlins-2-is-better-than-the-original e.g. "As the movie industry continues to build their entire calendar around sequels, prequels, and even side-quels, Dante found himself in a rare position by the time he shot the second Gremlins movie in 1989: he had complete creative control over a sequel he had no interest in making." It's a fourth-wall-shattering self-parody of the highest order. It's what Dilbert's Wally would dream up if he were a filmmaker. It's a real-live Bialystock and Bloom production.

December 6, 20187 yr Excalibur was very good. Old school style - they had to learn to swing swords while wearing armor. No many special effects for the battles
