November 11, 20241 yr Author Jake’s has opened a new location on Walnut Hill/Marsh in the rebuilt shopping center that was destroyed by the tornado in 2019. They didn’t have their liquor license when we went last week but it should be a decent place to watch games once they do.They’ve got what looks like it could be a decent patio scene out back with a massive TV. We don’t really have that many good places to watch sports over here so this will do in a pinch.

That intersection was dogshit (even before the tornado) when we used to live up there. Glad to see they finally have 1 place worth eating at. Did that taco place that opened earlier this year near Spec’s make it?
November 12, 20241 yr No bullshit, this was one of the worst things I've ever had from a restaurant (at the downtown FW location). Quote FLAMING ROOSTER 10.99 Another Texas favorite for 40 years! A juicy grilled chicken breast, hot mustard, jack cheese, & fresh pico de gallo. Didn't get a burger because just had one the night before. I failed.

November 16, 20241 yr Adair's cheese burger with fries and a Lone Star pretty much kicks any other place's ass. Lock thread.
November 16, 20241 yr Been meeting a client for happy hour at Hudson House a bunch lately. Awesome $10 cheeseburgers and $3 oysters to go with half price martinis. Three of us the other night ordered nine martinis, two cheeseburgers, and a dozen oysters and I think it was $120.

Good breakfast tacos at the Green Spot. Nice little shopping center.

I love the French chicken. Happy Hour martini/oyster deal is tough to beat too. But I'm kind of steering clear of Hunter Pond places these days. My understanding is that he's a gigantic piece of shit.

Felt like a poorly executed attempt at knocking off Hillstone/Houston’s.
December 7, 20241 yr The HH in Fort Worth seems to be doing well, they dropped a metric shit ton of cash into the buildout converting an original old AF ice house that had been a landscaping biz most recently. Very cool spot. Can’t say I’ve had a bad meal, hated seeing the HH deal get prices jacked up tho. and c man I’ve picked up on very similar vibes with the ownership.

The location I was (mostly) referring to in that post was Addison, so if any of you that replied were going to that location, you should give Even Coast a try. Their happy hour is a pretty shameless copycat of HH's, and it might be better. I honestly think the burgers are. HH's buns have been dry as hell the last couple of times. Even Coast (on the east side of the Tollway across the lot from Mesero):

February 4Feb 4 Author Went to the new Maple & Motor for lunch. Nice space. Jack said they've been very busy. Good to hear. (Yes, it was a tasty burger.)
February 7Feb 7 Does Jack have a bet with a local about the success of the new location. Seems like a neighbor tried to offer Jack his opinion about the location, typical Jack told him to STFU. Want to say they made a bet or something along those lines. I like the shit out of JP. He has great burgers too!

He has great burgers too! I seem to recall an online spat with somebody who lives near the new location. This person told Jack that he was opening in an area with more families and therefore more kids. I think it referenced a sign at the OG location that basically says unruly kids are not welcome nor tolerated. Jack did not take it as constructive criticism and the other guy was a total jackass about it. There might've been some kind of wager placed. Fuzzy on details. (It's actually probably in this thread somewhere.)
May 14May 14 Burger Schmurger’s Brick and Mortar is open now. In the same shopping center as El Vecino on the east side of White Rock Lake.

And we missed nearly half of Waxahatchee’s set. I guess this post belongs in the stupid shit my wife does thread. Edited May 14May 14 by DDD Dad

May 14May 14 I think it's more the place is super popular already. I went by the other day at 6pm and the entire parking lot was full. El Vecino sometimes has an hour wait.
May 15May 15 Sauce’d south of Main Street in Grapevine. Do recommend. This was the bourbon bacon jam smash burger. Fries were great as well.

Agreed. I didn’t think it was a service issue so much as just overwhelming demand. I’m happy both places are doing well but I am just not going to wait an hour for Tex-Mex or 90 minutes for a burger. I’m happy both places are doing well but I am just not going to wait an hour for Tex-Mex or 90 minutes for a burger. Finally made it to Burger Schmurger today for lunch. Got there right around noon (they’ve expanded hours to add to lunch Friday-Sunday). Was told 1 hour wait that turned out to be only a little over 30 minutes. Sat on the patio. Despite heat and humidity their fans kept us quite comfortable. The food was wonderful. Burger was excellent. Smaller in size than Maple & Motor and Rodeo Goat. More like the burgers at the original Offsite Kitchen. I wasn’t a huge fan of the onion strings or the fries (I didn’t care for the spice used on the fries which probably included paprika and cumin rather than just salt). But the dipping sauces were really tasty. Liked the spicy aioli and dill ranch sauces best. Service was slow but friendly, and drinks were refilled properly. Owner came by to talk to us when the food arrived to explain the sauces and added a nice personal touch. I don’t understand why they chose to put a pool table in the middle of the dining room. They could add a half dozen tables there to reduce wait times. Plus they have no seating for those waiting which seems like a major fail. They are going to need to figure that out or in the long run I’m afraid they will start to end up with more empty tables than people waiting in line. In all, we will be back. One of the investor owners is friends with my daughter and I want to support local businesses regardless of any personal connections. I really hope they figure out the service/wait stuff to become more efficient to keep customers happy and returning.
June 13Jun 13 Ate at El Vecino tonight. Burger Schmurger looks like they opened without any restaurant veteran helping them. Sign outside:
